Welcome to the 4x100 relay tournament of the very first Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character on the starting blocks and running, and then paste the code [*dice=349+1050] without the asterisks into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a time, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 1264 is read as 12.64 seconds) The times of each competitor on each team will be added up to get the team's total.

The team with the lowest time wins this event. Times for this event will be continually updated on this thread.

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind, though, that this is meant to move pretty fast, so we're not looking for exceedingly long posts.

This was Atlas Cornell's very first Olympic event. He hadn't exactly been totally gung-ho about attending this sort of competition - leaving his home district for a place that perpetually smelled like fish didn't exactly appeal to him - but his father had insisted that one of his boys attend. Scorpius was too busy with his master plan - Career training, all the way - and had implored his brother to be the one to go. Atlas was pretty easygoing, so he'd agreed. He wasn't much of a fan of competition - mostly he kept to himself - but he was strong, well-built, and skilled in athleticism, so he hoped he'd be able to do well so his father would maybe get off his back a bit.

Once he reached District Four, though, the sixteen-year-old longed to explore. There were so many different sights and sounds here; it was as different from his home in the mountains as was humanely possible. He didn't like the lack of heights - too far from the stars, considering he spent most of his nights high up on a mountaintop, gazing at them - but it was an interesting place. He'd only had a few hours to prepare for his first event, though, because he'd arrived a day after everyone else, so instead he'd gone to the gym constructed at the District Two village building to lift some weights, run on the treadmill, and prepare to show everyone up. Or so he hoped.

And now it was time to run the relay. Atlas was a decent runner; he had plenty of endurance and could keep going for a while, but that didn't really apply in this event because it was a relay sprint. His team was made up of two other District Two competitors and one from District Four, and they were up against two other teams made up solely of District One runners. Atlas had a low opinion of One; they weren't rough around the edges enough. It would be extremely satisfying to beat them in this.

Bang! The gun sounded. He watched as the first member of his team - he would be running second - took off. It was only a little while before she reached him and it was his turn.

Any event in which team work was a necessity was one that Scarlette automatically hated. She knew how good she was, she knew what she was capable of. Unless the people on her team were people she knew were good enough to keep up with her, she was going to do anything she could to be better than them. She was going to out shine them, regardless of how hard they tried, because if they were good enough to keep up with her, she wouldn't need to make herself shine. Her team seemed to be at least decent. Everybody on it seemed to be fit enough to handle themselves, so she decided she'd give them a chance to shine along side her. If any of them, any of them, messed up, it meant that she was going to push herself so that they no longer mattered. It was a step up from her typical team competition attitude! At least she was giving this group a chance. When it was, at long last, her turn, she sprinted as quickly as her small fame would let her.

I never really wanted to do the relay. Eris however was very insistent I try. What's the worst that could happen she said. The worst? I could fall and snap my neck. Or I could end up baton-ing someone in the face. Whatever, I'm here now, and I guess I'll have to let my running do the talking now. I'm on the back straight, thankfully. I hate running bends. The slight lean, the increased strain on your outer leg, I prefer the more simple running hell-for-leather in a straight line. The boy stood on my left, the boy from two, looks quick. I bounce on my toes, a grimace upon my face as I begin to tunnel vision, focusing only on the change-boxes, both mine, and the one our third runner stands in. I can't see Eris. I expect her to do well, particular since she persuaded me to run in what I class as 'her' event. The gun sounds, the opening runner rounds the bend, as I begin to accelerate, slowly at first, before we reach the middle of the box...

... and it's a decent change, the baton coming down into my outstretched palm, only the briefest of glances to make sure it's there. I'm pleased, we haven't exactly had a huge amount of time to iron these kinks out. And I'm not exactly the best of team players. I take off like a bat out of hell, running my heart out. The corner of my eye catches that boy. And he is quick. Very quick. He outstrips me complete, but that's to be expected. Joys of being short I guess. I continue to pump my legs, before hitting the changebox, baton reversing angle of change, slotting the baton up into the third runner's hand. I'm done, standing, panting at the exertion, looking over at the staggeringly quick boy, shaking my head slightly. He definitely had me beat. I chastise myself, annoyed that I lost to someone from Two, irrespective of my general apathy toward this event.

Sometimes when I run, I close my eyes. I can feel shallow breaths pushing against my chest like they're under pressure, and ripples up my leg muscles as my feet hit the ground. My shins compact, vibrate slightly, take the shock. My knees lock, slide up, bend again, and my ankles push myself back up again. I'm an automatic machine, I don't need to tell my parts what to do. All I need to focus on is staying compact and straight, and putting all my effort into going forward. I like to forget about the outside world some times, and focus entirely on the beauty of what my body does for me, the things I normally do not notice.

However, this is not one of those times. I watch very carefully as the baton is smacked into my hand my my teammate. I'm the last runner, the sprinter. I'm not meant too, but out of the corner of my eye I catch that the district two runner is already ahead of me. I see the tips of my feet hit the red dirt track, watch the myriaded crowd blur into one another, see my own future stretched ahead of me. I am running down this road, running away from the past and into a new place and there is nothing you can do to slow me down.

I really detest team play on events such as these. If there's even one crack in your perfection it can have the potential of bringing you, and the rest down with it. Just one little sucker could be all that it takes. All I can do is complain silently, while plastering a smile on my face while I swear upon every name that these people do better than me, or at least be on par with me at the very least.

There was only three reasons why I was doing this event: It had running in it, running was one of my fortes, and I wanted to sign up for more than three events. Even if I don't particularly like the sport, I don't particularly feel like dreadfully losing today. I'm no loser.

Angsty middle school-era angst. Shiv feels kind of little and wonders why there are two Morenos on her team and one on the other d1 team. Shouldn't they be all on one team? Or do they all hate each other's guts? She never really understood that family, just knew that they produced two top-8 tributes in a row. She's glad that she doesn't have siblings and can't imagine having to share her stuff like the Morenos must, based on the sheer number of them.

Right. Running. Somehow it was decided that Shiv was running first, maybe because they think she'd mess up their lead if she went in the middle, so if she starts first they think they'll be able to make up for her. Those bitches. She'll show them. Or maybe she won't, y'know? Maybe she'll mess up on purpose. But no, Shiv likes winning too much to do that, so she just waits, baton in hand, for the starting pistol to fire.

To be honest, I don't want to run this race. Sure, I'm fast, but what good will it do if four of twelve people are winners? That's just not good enough; and losing...that's just plain embarrassing. I've never been a team player, but I guess that in this case, I'll have to be. There are two girls from gymnastics on my team: the girl who took third and the blond girl, who might be even younger than me and managed to do terrible enough to finish last in that competition. I roll my eyes, knowing that it only takes one person to bring us all down.

Still upset about my lack of success in gymnastics, I position myself to run, attempting to erase it all from my head. I resist the urge to look up into the stands and seek out Rolex and instead, focus. Surprisingly the blondie is a fast runner. I take the baton from her hand as she finishes, hoping that I can maintain the lead.
