I'm surprised I haven't seen this thread yet, but to all you Wrimos out there, what's your plot?[/color][/blockquote]
Post summaries here!
I'm writing a sequel from last year's novel, The City of Steel. Here is last year's summary:
In a post-apocalyptic world, a utopian city has risen up, shut out from all and determined not to make the same mistakes those before them had. And to make sure of that, they’ve decreed that if a child younger than the age of 18 has gotten into trouble in school, with the law, or is disobedient, they can and will be spent away to the City of Steel, a mostly destroyed city to fend for themselves until they’re 18, when they can return. The problem is, seldom do they reach 18.
Finn Athrun knows only three things the day he awakens on a moving bus. 1, His name, 2, that kids who are bad are sent to the City of Steel and 3, he’s been bad. Everything else, including his memories, is gone. Wiped clean. When he arrives in The City of Steel, the kids there fear him. Following a war among the kids in the beginning when the destroyed city was put to use, they've been divided into three groups: The Unwanted, the majority of the kids who are under the rule of a 19 year old girl they call "Mother," who, for the most part controls the city and is the only one to stay in the city past 18 years old, the Shadow Children, a group of kids who went underground, literally, and keep to themselves, and finally, The Sharp Daggers, once five kids who wreck havoc and kill with daggers, mercilessly, often preying on those about to turn 18. Especially with their spies and followers in the Unwanted, everyone lives in fear of the Sharp Daggers, fearing they may be next on their kill list.
When Finn arrives, despite the wishes of the other Unwanted, especially Wren, a mischievous girl, who is loyal to Mother, Mother takes Finn in and explains to him the awful truth: He was a Sharp Dagger and tried to leave the city just weeks ago. As part of the Daggers, he's performed atrocious acts upon the Unwanted and Shadow Children, killing and torturing many. But, Finn can't remember any of it! To make matters worse, when Finn, scared and confused, refuses to rejoin the Sharp Daggers, they give an awful ultimatum to the Unwanted and Mother: Hand over Finn, as well as the city before the end of the summer or another war will take place.
Suddenly, Finn is thrust into hell as he struggles to regain his memory, battles with the guilt of the awful deeds he's performed, deals with the murders and mischief of the Daggers and tries to choose his true destiny: to change his ways or return to being the murderer he once was.
And here is this year's, The City of Hope:
A startling new practice has begun in New Hope City: a Selection that tests children and sends “undesirables” to join the Unwanted in the City of Steel. Maxwell Credgood, self-proclaimed genius thinks nothing of it until his long-standing girlfriend, Evelyn Fitz, is selected as an Unwanted and torn from him. Suddenly doubting the very City Council his father sits in on, Maxwell pledges the unthinkable: he is going to bring Evelyn home no matter the cost.
Meanwhile in the City of Steel, a year after the Second Battle of the City which brought down the Sharp Daggers once and for all, a bubbly Unwanted has dropped in on the scene bearing a stunning letter for Mother. Despite her kind front, Wren Raporzina, the Bird Girl, suspects there’s something this new Unwanted is hiding and fears it may threaten the City itself. Mother, leader of the City, grapples with the question of what to do with her murderess sister and the decisive offer that this letter contains while Finn Athrun investigates rumors that his sister may be in the City and may be part of a rumored cult that’s rising up deep within the heart of the City.
Storm clouds are brewing over both Cities.
GOOD LUCK WRIMOS!
