He hated thunderstorms. He hated how it sounded so hateful. How it bellowed and made the windows in his tiny home rattle and his walls shake. Having some form of shelter was better then none at all. He was struggling already to keep it up with his father constantly ruining the crappy home even more. But tonight it sounded so much more then simply angry. It sounded sinister, like it was full malice and hatred for the world and for him. He wished he could run away.
Ashton sighed as he walked down the dirt path to his hiding spot. He liked watching the clouds roll over the hills beyond the electric fence. Even if it was scary, he usually left long before the rain actually came; if only it wasn't so hot. Of course in a few months, he'd be wishing for the heat when the cold set in.
He imagined that District 12 was much colder in the winter then any of the other districts. Especially the Capitol. He dreamed of it really...seeing those fancy people who looked like they were Aliens from another planet. He sighed, wishing for something to eat. He began picking at grass, popping some of it into his mouth and chewing to quiet is rumbling stomach. It was dry, disgusting and tasteless, but it was food.
He pulled out a small worn photo he'd managed to find of his Mother. She was such a beautiful lady. Thin, fair skinned, green eyes, very much like him. He held the photo to his chest. "The reaping is in a few weeks..." he began, whispering quietly as he looked up at the fence to see more of those dark clouds coming for him.
"Please...give me some luck...some good fortune." he begged, beginning to feel water drip onto his face. "I never met you, but I'm begging you to guide me..." he begged, tears and rain beginning to fall on him.
