This thread will be open for a number of days, and people will participate. There's a few randomly-pre-selected Tributes that must die by the end of this thread (and will be killed off regardless, even if their death is not RPed out)

What does this mean?
>The characters slated for death will die (obviously)
>The other characters have a chance to live

More importantly, what does this not mean?
>It does not mean that everyone else is invincible
>It does not mean that you can run in and grab every little item
>It does not mean that you don't have to RP.

Officially big importantness threads like this one will be set up by staff and stickied until they're closed (and, in all probability, locked)

You may make your own threads, however, as long as they don't conflict with Big Uber Importantness threads. Rules regarding posting will remain the same, with the exception that you may only be in one thread at a time! You are also required to post with your tribute account only.

Shayanne did not want to die. It was a simple,easy,plain-as-day fact of life.Right then,standing like everyone else around the Cornucopia,there seemed to be many facts of life running through her head.Go find water,stay away from the Careers,get useful supplies from the Cornucopia,run away from the Cornucopia,find a safe and far place to sleep.The only thing was,the Arena did not allow any of that,as she quickly observed it.Her muscles were tense and her mind was in overdrive,and she was shivering.In District Nine,it had been constantly at least ninety degrees during these summer days.To adjust to something this cold was impossible.Okay,I need something to keep warm,she thought to herself.In a shock,she wondered how much time she had left,because she had to hurry.Had to find a heavier jacket,a blanket-anything that would be useful.

Within a split second,the gong rang out,ringing in her ears and Shayanne ran to find something useful.It was complete horror,with tributes running around,trying to retrieve items that would spare their lives as well.Some of the Careers were probably even hunting other tributes down,ignoring the supplies and blindly killing.Shayanne hated this,she just wanted to run away from this mess and go find a hole to hide in so that she wouldn't have to worry about all of this.She had to though.If she got nothing,she would not survive.

With tense muscles and a distinct frown upon her face,Shayanne sprinted deeper into the havoc and searched for something that would be useful.When she tried to pick something up- then another tribute snatched it right before her and ran away.Shayanne had to be quick,she had to be aggressive.If you don't find something,you'll die..

Shayanne ran faster,with her mind aware of every single little thing around her.Items were being taken within the blink of an eye,tributes were running around everywhere,people were dying..

Shayanne did not want to die.With that thought in mind,she grabbed for items,but most were taken before she could reach them.She dived towards a jug filled with water and in a snap she was up again,small jug of water in hand.Shayanne dived this way and that,and again she came up with something.She found a simple knife.Tributes were around her left and right,and in that moment of panic she ran away from that scene of danger and gazed at the Arena one more time.

Shayanne spun around and observed her happy new home in a small moment.She saw a mountain to the North.Shayanne had no inclination to go there,because although high ground was easier to defend,that terrain was probably horrible and an avalanche probably occured every other day.If the Gamemakers wanted to kill her,how else then to bury her in ten feet of snow?

To the West,she could see a lake of some kind.She already had water to last her until she found more,so she would take her chances not to go there.Tributes would be flooding it,wanting water when they couldn't get some at the battle.

Behind her,to the South,she did not even consider going.She did not know what it was in that direction-she had never learned much at school-but whatever it was looked deadly and horrible and who in their right minds would take that chance?

Shayanne's only chance was in the forest that was to the East.If situations were better,she would try the mountain for protection against Careers,but she would rather take on the Careers then the Gamemakers.When it all added up,the Capitol people were more completely crazy.Of course,she would never say that aloud.

With that in mind,Shayanne ran for her life.

Shayanne did not want to die.

I could only pray that Terry wouldn't betray me. How could he? That was a stupid thing to pray for. But then again, I never know if he'll turn his back on me. But if he stuck to the deal, he'll be going around like I am grabbing whatever was nearest but not risky. While the others would be too busy pounding each other for the good stuff, us D. 10 would satisfy ourselves with basics. Terry had been poor once, and I had tolerance if need be. At this point, we can't afford luxuries if they'll just lead to death anyways.
Right nearby was a box of bandages and a water canteen. I grabbed those, dashing forward to grab that string I saw. No time to think of what was of use, only what was safe.
Terry, on the other hand, would be going wild everywhere. He's faster and stronger than me, but I still told him to keep confrontations to a minimum. Somebody advances on you, you're dead.
Our time was almost up. I knew if we didn't go soon they'll be hounding us next. I whistled a smooth, dove-like sound. "Udo!" I said, using his name from German class. "Zu den Bergen!"
He looked up and dashed to the mountains. Thankfully he knew enough to understand. And thankfully we had that late night cram.
And now I prayed that no one would pursuit.

I didn't look up. No time. In the short time I've been in small combat, I dropped all the stuff I got. All I had left was a flimsy dowel rod. Whatever. Fyuori could make something.
I was already dead from all the running, but my life depended on this. The mountains weren't excatly our terrain, but we've hiked on them before. Heading to the woods would've been too obvious and dangerous, as we would be too close to our enemies. Plus, those are a handful of snow-covered pines up there in the mist, and nobody wants to waste energy following us. It's possible that they think we'll just die up there. We only got a 5 and 6.
We don't need sponsers. Fyuori was tough enough. Even after all this time I have to admire her for her fiery temper, although I was completely different. But maybe, just maybe, we'll get past this bloodbath of terror.
I ran as fast as I could to join Fyuori. I looked behind to see if anyone was pursuing. But I guess they thought we wouldn't be going far, so if they wanted a chase, it'll be later.
Fyuori and I made it a few hundred yards before stopping and taking cover behind a boulder. It was horrible. The D. 6 girl had been stupid enough to see if stepping off before the gong would really blow her up. It was sickening, but we got through. Maybe. At least if anyone's chasing us they'll be seen by us.
I looked over at Fyuori. She had a peculiar expression as she said, "So, will it be a truce?"
That's right. The moment our names were called, we were enemies. But I knew I could never bring myself to abandon her at this point. If I die, there'll be no internal crime on my hands.
I held our my hand and shook hers. "Truce."

The Bloodbath! Imagine! Not that I was a macabre person, but still. There was excitement!!
I managed to get my hands on a pole. I wasn't sure what it was for, but hell. This is the Hunger Games. So I swung it around to hit whoever I could.

Arcadia London let her Career-Instincts take over. It was the smartest thing to do, as her Career-Instincts were the most useful part about being a Career in the Arena that had been set up for the 52nd Hunger Games. All her training had not been for nothing, and had been worth a lot, actually. Part of her instincts were the senses. Her ears hurt with the constant buzzing as they strained to here every shuffle or sob a Tribute made. Her nostrils flared, as though she could smell out the weaklings of this group, and kill them off before they had a chance to get strong. Even her sense of touch was tingling, and the taste of acid mixed with all the smells, sights, and sounds of the Arena mixed in her mouth. It was a disgusting, bloody taste, but one she would have to get used to. Maybe her mind was playing tricks on her, and all her senses were average. Maybe her mind was just trying to make her happy but Arcadia knew for sure her sight had adjusted to the survival-mode of the Arena.

Her blue eyes were wide as they desperately tried to take in everything at once. The thing about survival-situations, is they make you dizzy an the world seems so huge. Some of the Tributes heads were whipping back and forth as they adjusted to the feeling. Some seemed rather at ease, and Cady made a point to remember their faces. They were the survivors. In a moment, everything changed. In a moment any thought of the love she had left behind in District Two, or the pain she had felt when Father had offered her a few last tips on how to kill children vanished. It was Arcadia London in the Games. Nothing else would matter because...

The Games had begun.

Cady went through her list of needs, and wants. She needed to find food, water, shelter, and a weapon. She wanted a tent, jacket, and ice-cream, a knife. Run Cady-Bird, run! Father yelled in her head, and she was sure he was yelling it at the huge TV the whole family gathered in front of during the Games. Her feet barely touched the ground as she ran, pushing people out of the way, and getting pushed around herself. Breathing through her nose, she found a good knife deep in the Cornucopia. Arcadia knew other people wouldn't be as lucky as her. Maybe they'd manage to grab a pointed stick, but this knife was a prize.

Father had already told Arcadia, if there were woods, head toward them. They had wild-life to feed off of, and trees to hide in. Most Tributes would be headed that way, but most Tributes weren't Arcadia London. They weren't lightning fast and determined to life. She turned in the direction, to see the District Two Male Tribute fumbling with grabbing a tent. It seemed heavy, and the guy was having trouble with it. It only took a second for Arcadia to come to a screeching hault--almost dropping her precious knife, and rather clumsily slash a line down his back. A cry of pain, he turned around just in time for Arcadia London to make eye-contact. Blue eyes met strange, amber ones, and Cady could say in that moment she hated herself more than anything else in the world. Just as her knife slid across the shocked boys throat, his fist had made contact with her gut. It was enough to knock the wind out of her, but not enough to save the boy. He fell the the ground, blood everywhere. Arcadia grabbed her knife, and in a split-second decision, cut the shirt right off her fellow District-Two Tributes back. It was bloody, but would help to keep her warm when the temperature started to drop.

For a moment Arcadia marveled at what she had just done. It had been good luck on her part, and bad luck on the boys. Her fellow Career had seen Arcadia, but not recognized her, Cady realized that now. He had seen a skinny, little girl and most likely hadn't bothered to try killing her because she wasn't worth it. He hadn't realized who she was or what she was capable of. The thought was scary, as she knew the boy was ten times bigger than her, even with the (few) pounds Cady had gained during her stay at the Capitol. Arcadia would have to thank her Father after she had won the Games, for all the times he had made sure to not feed her. Being skinny and fit had its benefits in the Games! Oh boy, maybe once she'd won, Cady could thank him for forcing her into volunteering for the Games!

Suddenly she came back to reality, and after a few quick calculations in her head, Arcadia realized she had time to bend down and snatch up two more items about to be painted with her fellow Career' blood. A blanket, the better to smother with, and a food-pack the better to choke you ,with. The teen would have liked to get a water-container, or medical supplies, or something more to help her out, but she had to run. She had to win the Games, and standign around like an idiot woudl get her killed. Her blood would mingle with that of her fellow Careers.

With that thought, she started to fly. Cady ran, gasping as the hit to her gut hurt, and the thought of having killed stung a bit. Arcadia London ran, aware of the tears that streaked her face, the foot that had been stepped on by another Tribute, the bruise on her arm, and the throb of her dizzy survival mind. The Games were very unpleasant. With that thought she forced a smile onto her face, and kept on running. It was highly unlikely the Capitol would be showing footage of her running into the woods, instead of the blood-bath, but somebody would be watching her, and somebody would tell somebody else. The news of the murderous, strange District Two female Tribute smiling a she ran would reach most everybody. By the end of the day most good sponsors would have realized the potential Arcadia had.

Cady ran, through the woods now. She was thankful for the tight, neat bun her hair had been swept into, as having her long, honey-colored flying in her face wouldn't have been all that great in the Games. She gripped the bloody shirt of a just-killed boy harder. The Arena was a cruel, hard place to live in. It was a good thing Arcadia London did not intend to stay in the Arena all that long. As she flew, the wind whipping the stray hairs that had fallen down into her face, Cady knew she had made an important decision.

Something in her had screamed when she ran away from the chaos, something in her had told Cady to go back and fight the other Tributes. She knew many ways to fight somebody, and her knife-dagger-thing was just a plus. Slitting throats, slashing faces, stabbing hearts and guts... that was the type of action that would keep the teen interesting. It was a well known fact, Careers who didn't fight within the first few days of the Games were killed off more quickly than t he murderous ones. Cady had sealed her fate in making the Game-Makers notice how entertaining she was when she killed her own Districts Tribute, but to keep within their good graces there would have to be more blood shed. Arcadia London would have to go partially insane.

Some would be troubled by her quick decision to become a lunatic who killed with a smile on her delicate, pretty face. Some would even confront her, but Cady would merely laugh and tell them its always the crazies that get far in life, because anybody whose sane would never jump out of a tree from twenty feet just to land on another Tribute and break their neck before they could look up and see her coming. Only people who were creative about the quick, humane ways they could kill ever got far in the Games. Her dad had been a stupid boy when he decided to kill a weakling Tribute in a slow, painful way. The cries of a dying child had drawn courageous Tributes to London, and led to his ultimate demise at the hands of somebody far weaker, but more driven and wise. Cady refused to make his mistake, and stubbornly knew if she were to die in the Games she would make even her death a gasp-worthy, amazing site to see.

So with all this in mind, she ran harder and faster. Maybe, just maybe if Cady was good enough at staying alive she wouldn't need to exhaust herself with thinking of all the ways to kill a person. Maybe she could survive on talent alone and win in a very honorable way.

"The games have begone" thought Jakob " time to get to work" he leapt forward, onto the girl tribute from district six, and snapped her neck in one smooth motion, then scooped up the water skin, and axe at his feet, and took of towards the frozen lake. "it is so easy to take a life, why was i worried? while those weaklings think about the ethics of it i will kill them all." he thought.

Toss Mako, District 4

Three... two... one...

A decade of my life has been spent preparing for the moment the gong sounded. Ten years that I'll never get back, certainly. But will they be my last? Will the half-score be in vain, or will I get another ten, twenty years to waste?

Although the former is more likely, I still believe in the latter. After all, what else is left for me if I give up the hope and belief that I can win? Nothing. Well, something--anywhere from thirty seconds to several weeks of dreary suspense. I will not be a slave to my emotions.

My head and heart are pounding, and I give a little start when the gong sounds. A mere fraction of a second lost, but I inwardly kick myself for squandering it. Every split second matters, no matter how trivial it may see. The blink of an eye could very well be the difference between life and death--for anyone and everyone, myself included--and it is crucial that no ground is lost unnecessarily. I'm going to need every advantage I can get.

My legs, long but thick with muscle, carry me across the firmly packed snow, towards my target: the golden horn in the center. If I can get there--I know that I can--and grab a weapon, I'm set for the bloodbath, I'm almost positive. Few will stick around for the fighting, and I can perhaps ally myself with some. This leaves more of us to deal with fewer of them.

I don't bother with the stuff on the ground in between me and the horn; I'll get back to it after the Bloodbath. Yes, I plan on sticking around that long. No, I'm not going to run away as soon as the fighting dies down.

I don't look at anyone else as I sprint for the weapons in the glittering Cornucopia. If I can, I'll grab a sword, as they're the best all-around weapon for close combat. An axe or spear might be more powerful or have more reach, but they are slower and more difficult to handle. On the flip side, a dagger or knife might allow for quicker strikes, but don't have enough reach or power for my liking.

I make it to the horn of plenty in one piece. I scramble over piles of gear to snatch up a sword. Perfect. Wielding it, I take a moment to become aware of those around me. I stand a good chance. Deciding that it would be best if the majority of the supplies were left behind by the skittish members that will be getting out of the siege as quickly as they can, I put my back to one face of the horn for protection and proceed to guard them.

I'm not going to begin the killing now. Not just yet.

Caroline was worried as she stood on her tribute spot. Her father was probably watching right now, crying as he watched his only family member left fight for her life in the Games ...

2 ... 1 ... and it was time.

Caroline gasped, and although not really risking going that far TOO the Cornucopia, she did dash out a bit to try to grab some items; a food package; waterskin; a jacket and earmuffs, which she nearly tripped over, and as she headed back out from the Cornucopia, she saw a pair of knives. Praising her luck, she jumps into a roll, grabs thme, and continues.

She's a runner after all...

Blaze! Panic leapt through her heart. Her friend, from her district! Oh sweet Capitol ... he was too young.

Everyone is too young to die...

"So, where now?" I asked.
"Mountains," Fyuori replied. "Everyone else will be going to the forest, but there's a few trees up there. As long as we have things to burn we're fine."
I nodded. "Thought the same here."
"Woah!" She was staring at my hand. "Where'd you get that from?"
I looked at my hand, which held the dowel rod, but I never looked at it. Now I realized it was a bow and a lightweight quiver. Beautifully crafted. Perfect balance.
I was about to congratulate myself when I noticed Fyuori's look. Oh boy.
"I TOLD you! Don't lose yourself first thing in the bloodbath! It's only the beginning, and you're already risking your life!"
"Well, I made it out okay," I responded. "And it doesn't matter, we have weapons." I thought for a moment. My archery skills were okay, but I'm sure some careers would be a heck of a lot better. "Fyuori, you good with arrows?"
"I'm not quite like Patyrck, "she said. Patryck had been learning archery since he was 6. He was much better than both of us put together. "But not something I can't improve with practice. We'll need to train ourselves every day."
I nodded. There'll be a ton of killers armed with weapons. But brawn isn't anything. Fyuori and I will die to make an unstoppable team. Nothing like Patryck and Jaysi put together, but we'll do. With Fyuori as the brains and me as the brawn. We'll outsmart 'em all! Players of the Games, here we come!

I have a stick. And not just any stick. A nice, balanced pike. And not only that, I have ANOTHER pike! Yes! This is how it goes!
Earlier I had a few confrontations with a skinny boy (D. 10? I didn't care). Quite formidable, but he was empty-handed, trying to get another pike. I smiled. Is this a first kill?
Some people were already taking off, but I was staying. I would ally myself with the Careers, for safe measure. They wouldn't pass up a handy gal like me. The skinny boy grabbed something and took off suddenly. I realized with shock that he took the bow and arrows! No, they're all mine! I tried to spear him, but he was already too far. No good, it would be pointless to waste energy on some flimsy kid who Mother Nature could just finish off.
I climbed up the gold horn to get a good view, waiting for someone to notice me and to ally with. After all, success comes in size.

I am the hunter, and they are the prey....

This is what Hunter had been thinking... until now. As soon as the gong went off, he darted towards the Cornucopia, hoping to get a bow and arrow before anyone else. All he found was a hammer, a grapple hook, and a jacket.

Frustrated, he looked around. The other tributes were fighting with each other or running away. Hunter planned to do the latter....once he found a bow.

Suddenly, he saw a girl on top of the cornucopia. Stupid girl. What does she think she's doing. She does has a pike, but if he can just get one shot with a hammer...

Hunter darted up to the Cornucopia, trying to surprise the girl. When he was ready, he leaped and swung the hammer towards her skull.

(OOC:Yeah, whoever plays Mason can just kill Hunter right now. Don't care how you do it. Or there can be a fight. Whatever you want.)

The kid missed. And good thing, otherwise I would've been nothing more than a sliced carcass, but still. Perhaps he had no training. As he struggled to get up, I pinned him to the ground with my knee. My first kill. No one will stop me now. If this is indeed the bloodbath, then there needs to be the faucet first.
Goddammit, that's a chilling thought. I can only hope that I don't become some demented killer.
"I'll make this quick," I said, raising the pike. A bull's eye on the temple. He would not suffer. As much as the bloodbath needs to be bloody, I don't kill needlessly.
Oh. Rephrase. I don't play with my food before I eat it. I'll only make a scene if they've done something to me. Like steal my supplies, or injure me, or something like that.
One down for Zanne. That's a total of...four dead? Well, less people to deal with.
Still, I couldn't help but think back to the boy who nicked those arrows from me. Sneaky little ferret, running around like a Career then slipping away. Didn't the girl from his district hang out with him all the time? He was headed for...the mountains? They must have a death wish or something. Are there mountains in D. 10...?
Something, I don't know what, don't care, nearly took my head off. I decided to keep myself occupied with watching the scene, this time making sure my back was covered in case the next guy to sneak up was more skilled.

Persephone Capulet was just your average, everyday, district 4 girl. She lived on the lake with her family, her twin sister, and everything was just as it always had been. Daily, she trained for the Hunger Games, never once thinking that she'd be unfortunate enough to have to put her learned skills to the test. When her name was called at the reaping she was put into a state of shock. But she walked up to the stage with a proud, conquering look on her face. She would do the best she could. She would win.

Now, she stood in her launching station. Around her, she saw a bunch of things that she would be able to grab, if she could make it out safely. She decided she would go for it, and grab everything that she could.

Let the 52nd annual Hunger Games Begin!

Persephone bolted from her launching station and grabbed several things on her way to the cornocopia. She picked up a pack of what felt like food, a knife set, and an extra pair of gloves. As she sprinted toward the cornocopia, toward the one thing that could be her lifesaver in the games, she found herself being attacked by another girl, a weaker girl. Quickly, Seph took a knife from her pack and stuck it into the girls chest, almost instantly, the girl fell to the ground. Seph stopped for a moment to dig the knife deeper into the girl's chest, making sure that her life would end, and that Seph would be one step closer to going home. Persephone kept sprinting towards the cornocopia, and she was able to grab a set of bows and arrows. She dodged every attack that came at her, hoping to get away as safely as possible. She ran for the trees, and she kept running, until she was sure that she left everyone behind.

Seph looked all around her for a place where she could sit for a moment, and gather herself and her things. She spotted a hollow in a large tree and headed straight for that space. Once inside, she layed out all of her things in front of her. In the pack of food she picked up she found two pieces of jerky, some bread, some dried fruit and a can of nuts. This would hold her over for some time, but she knew she would need to start hunting at some point. She layed out her pack of knives, only remembering that she left one back at the cornocopia, in the girls chest. And then she looked at the bow and arrows and she smiled to herself, those would definitely come in handy. Persephone took a deep breath and organized her things. She put the bow and arrows on her back and began walking further and further into the trees, it was only a matter of time before she ran into somebody.
