In the beginning, there were two kings on the throne. Two powerful men, each with their own lives and their own families and their own secrets, brought together by a mutual friendship and the company in which they shared. For a long time, their business prospered in their partnership, both families becoming two of the wealthiest in the district as the years went on. Regis Dewitt and Charles Sullivan were kings of their own right, perfectly content in sharing their corporal throne and reveling in the wealth that they and their families enjoyed.

It wasn’t until Regis Dewitt was found lying in a pool of his own blood in his office did things take a sharp turn for the worst. All signs pointed to Charles Sullivan as the culprit, Dewitt’s family accusing him of succumbing to greed and taking down their beloved king in order to have the throne to himself, but Charles was adamant in pleading his innocence. It was only two weeks later that a member of the Dewitt family decided to take matters into their own hands and exact the vengeance that they and their family so craved. When Charles Sullivan’s wife awoke one morning to find her husband’s throat slit and blood soaking the bed beside her, she and the rest of her family cried out for revenge.

With the company on temporary shut-down in the wake of the murders, both families are running on only the money their former kings left them with. But now, the eldest sons of Regis Dewitt and Charles Sullivan are ready to take the throne in their late fathers’ places, but this time neither family is willing to share. With tensions high and bad blood running thick between the two families, both must come to an agreement quickly before time – and money - runs out. But how will either family ensure that their new king will be the one to reign?

Simple. Kill the other king.

This plot is based off the concept and individual pieces of the game of chess. Each family wants the company for themselves, but each have a right to the business. Instead of diplomacy, the families have decided to practically declare war, and each side is trying to kill the “king” of the other. Each family has one sure mission above all else. LUX DEWITT – KING, EIGHTEEN [open]
FC Suggestion - Christian Larsson
Lux is his family’s next-in-line for the company’s throne, and you could say that his new status as “king” of the family has started to go to his head. A bit spoiled and prone to snobbery, Lux can often seem like a typical rich boy who likes to rub his money in everyone’s faces, but he really means no harm. He’s actually quite a kind-hearted young man who doesn’t really understand the importance of the situation he’s in, a boy who’s been sheltered all his life and therefore doesn’t know the first thing about the dangerous world around him. He’s optimistic and logical, often prone to sudden flashes of genius, and believes himself to be totally in control when it’s really his sister who holds the reigns. In actuality, he’s just an innocent boy in way over his head.

LUCE DEWITT – QUEEN, EIGHTEEN [reserved for Dars]
FC Suggestion - Lara Stone
Luce is the guiding hand that controls the Dewitt Clan in its entirety, far better a leader than her twin brother ever could be. Intelligent, stern, and valiant, she is a noble girl and believes in a greater good for her family, and is prepared to do absolutely anything to keep the Sullivan family from claiming the throne. She regards anyone outside her family as irrelevant and expendable, and can be quite manipulative and conniving at times, believing that it’s okay to do a little evil for a greater good. She is, however, prone to letting her emotions get the best of her, sometimes acting brashly in the heat of the moment and throwing caution to the wind. It was she who killed the Sullivan family’s former king, led to do such an act by a misguided sense of justice, and is now paying the price for her recklessness by accidentally having put the person she cares for the most, her dear king, in harm’s way.

MADISON “MADDY” DEWITT – BISHOP, SEVENTEEN [reserved for Charade]
FC Suggestion - Gen Huismans
Maddy is quite possibly the most intelligent member of the Dewitt Clan, a reader of books and a lover of knowledge. The most logical and observant of the family, the King and Queen both often come to him for advice, and he is the go-to for any sort of information either may need. He is the most faithful and dependable of the Dewitts, opposed to gaining things through manipulation and a very honest young man, though he is gullible and can be easily manipulated at times. He is the only member of the family that does not approve of the war with the Sullivans, and believes that peace between the families can be achieved through diplomacy and kindness. For this, he is often ridiculed by his siblings - namely his sister, the Knight, whom he clashes with regularly.

EMILIE DEWITT – KNIGHT, SEVENTEEN [reserved for Penny]
FC Suggestion - Jemma Baines
Despite being small of stature and the only adopted member of the family, Emilie is quite a fireball. High-spirited and determined, she is a force in a fight and has a head harder than armor – she will not give up, even when surrendering would be the wiser choice. Ambitious and self-conscience of her status as the only adopted child of the family, she tries exceptionally hard to prove herself and has quite the temper, blowing up over any little jab at her or any little failure. She is envious of her sister, the Queen, and the power she has over the family, constantly trying to undermine her authority and outsmart her genius, though such attempts at getting the attention she craves are almost always in vain. However, it is her brother, the Bishop, that she clashes with the most. To her, he is too weak and too trusting and far too optimistic for his own good, finding him to be gullible and easily manipulated – traits that she worries will some day get him, and their entire family, in trouble.

HOWIE DEWITT – ROOK, SIXTEEN [played by Semper]
FC- Adrien Brunier
A behemoth of a young man, Howie stands dark and imposing before anyone who dares harm a hair on his family’s head. With a quiet, watchful demeanor and a scowl that could curl the toes of any Sullivan within twenty feet of him, it’s no surprise that the rival family quite is cautious of the boy. However, what the Sullivans don’t know is that Howie is actually far less of a threat than he appears to be. He’s a simple-minded boy, see, just misunderstood. He’d never attack anyone if they weren’t doing any harm, and he’s quite polite and even a bit of a gentleman. Or, a gentle giant. But just because he’s not near as much of the vicious barbarian people think him to be does not mean he can’t pack a powerful punch. Howie would pulverize anything that tried to hurt his family, as he’s fiercely protective of his siblings and would die a thousand times over for any of them. In the heat of battle, he’s as fearsome as he appears and will crush anything that comes within five feet of those he loves without hesitation. He’ll always apologize afterwards, though.

ALFIE DEWITT - PAWN, FOURTEEN [reserved for Danny]
FC Suggestion - Sam Harwood
Little Alfie is about as useful as a toy poodle in the vicious feud between the families, and is just about as smart as one, too. Completely submissive yet endlessly curious, he can be found trailing after any one of his siblings, who often use him to do their dirty work. He doesn’t speak much and asks few questions, and he enjoys any attention his siblings will give him. He is the epitome of pawn, used and regarded as nothing more than a simple-minded lapdog by the rest of his family. Iggy is the only one that understands that he’s not quite as useless as he seems, though. She’s the only one that sees little Alfie for his ability to fly under the radar and understands his talent for simply listening and watching, how he can absorb information and remember almost all of it. Needless to say, the two are close - the two misfits, misunderstood and misused.

KITTY DEWITT – PAWN, FOURTEEN [played by Clover]
FC- Mackenzie Foy
Cousin to the Dewitts and only child to the uncle who now takes care of them all, Iggy was disregarded from the start. Having grown up separate from the rest of the children, she lacks the deep, familial bond they all share. Despite this, Iggy is quite gun-ho about the whole war and is desperate to be included in fighting and planning, obsessively so. However, her clumsiness and lack of training often leave her sitting on the sidelines along with little Alfie, though she hardly ever feels sorry for herself. What she lacks in coordination and fighting skill she makes up for in a fiery disposition and drive to be the best that she can be for her family, even if her best isn’t much. She is only kept in the loop by Alfie, the closest thing she has to a sibling and a friend, and they can often be seen together.

ABEL DEWITT – FORTY-TWO
Regis Dewitt’s younger brother is now the one caring for his children, as Mrs. Dewitt succumbed to illness five years after Alfie was born and Abel was willing to care for the now orphaned Dewitts. At first, he was very much opposed to the war with the Sullivans, but has been unable to keep himself from being dragged into it against his will. He wants nothing to do with the family fortune and is actually quite uncomfortable in the mansion that was once his brother’s.

REGIS DEWITT – FORTY-SEVEN
Regis had always been a very courtly, stern man, traditional and ever-practical in his ways. The death of his wife eight years before had driven him deeper into his work, to the point that he was hardly ever home at all. Despite his misgivings, however, he was a loving father and an honest man, as far as his children know.

It would seem to anyone that Nox simply hates the world and everyone in it, and with seemingly no good reason. He has an explosive temper, a tendency to not think things through and go charging off into situations that could possibly spell his demise in the dangerous world he now lives in. What people don’t know, however, is that Nox doesn’t just simply blindly hate everything in his life – he’s pissed at the universe for giving him dyscalculia, a learning disability in which he can’t quite comprehend the concept of numbers and time. Clocks are always ticking in Nox’s head, and the frustrating thing is that he can’t understand any of it. Only his sister knows of his disorder, and she often uses his deep-set feelings of inadequacy to get what she wants from him.

CLEO SULLIVAN- QUEEN, EIGHTEEN [reserved for Tristen]
FC Suggestion - Odette Yustman
Cleo is an Ice Queen, a stone-cold demon lady from the deepest pits of hell to some, and she absolutely revels in it. She’s dark, cold and calculating, and knows exactly what to do or say to make anyone and everyone bend to her will and give her what she desires. She believes that she can’t possibly ever fall, ever slip up, inwardly arrogant but never openly so as gloating isn’t very lady-like. She doesn’t like getting her hands dirty, instead sending other people to do her dirty work. Condescension seems to layer her every word, and her lips seem to be set in a permanent smirk. She’s not completely heartless, though – she does love her brother, in her own twisted little way, seeing as she’s nearly incapable of such feelings. She sees him more as a possession, using his disability against him so that she can always have the upper hand, though she’d never have him hurt and would probably lose it if he were. As for the rest of her family, however, she is not so loving.

VIVIEN SULLIVAN - BISHOP, SEVENTEEN [reserved for Python]
FC Suggestion - Samantha Basalari
Twin sister to the knight, Vivien has always seemed a little off, but then again most of the Sullivan family isn't quite right. Despite her morbid sense of humor and fascination with the pain of others, she is quite the little lapdog when it comes to the queen of the family. She’s Cleo’s yes-woman and her own personal secretary, but what Cleo – or anyone, for that matter – doesn't know is that there’s more going on behind her big, bright doe eyes than there appears to be. In reality, Vivien has her own little war to win, but not one in which the Dewitt king suffers. Instead, it’s her own sister she wants to see fall, and she wants to be the one to send her tumbling off the throne that she believes she rightfully deserves.

CASSANDER SULLIVAN - KNIGHT, SEVENTEEN [played by Cass]
FC Suggestion - Guntars Asmanis
Cassander is probably one of the only bright spots in a family whose very name means “darkness”. Despite being seventeen years old, he’s the self-appointed big brother of the family, often the one that tries to lighten the Sullivan family’s rather dark mood with jokes and banter. As a result, however, he isn’t taken all that seriously and can even seem a bit obnoxious to some, but really he means no harm. All he cares about is his family’s safety, though he often goes about protecting them the wrong way. Reckless, brave, and endlessly stubborn, Cassander often ends up doing more harm than good. He’s a very selfless young man, more concerned with those around him rather than himself, and maybe that’s why he prefers to keep his secrets as just that - secrets. Who knows how his family would react if they found out he were gay? Even worse, what if they found out that it’s his older brother he’s got eyes for?

ALICE SULLIVAN - ROOK, SIXTEEN [reserved for Shrimp]
FC Suggestion - Tallulah Morton
Alice is a name befitting a girl of modesty and delicacy, not the bullheaded train-wreck of a young woman that is Alice Sullivan. Born with her foot in her mouth and tendency to speak exactly what’s on her mind, Alice’s brutal honesty is something of legend around the Sullivan house. Headstrong and completely uncaring towards whatever consequences she or anyone else may have to endure as a result of her actions, she’s a difficult person to like. However, her loyalty is unfailing and you can always trust her to never sugarcoat anything, and she doesn’t understand the concept of back-stabbing. She’s simple-minded and not all that bright, but her stubborn nature makes her difficult to manipulate and about as unmovable as a rock in her decisions. She’s fearless, truthful, and a master at intimidation.

ARSEN SULLIVAN - PAWN, FIFTEEN [reserved for South]
FC Suggestion - Jacob Morton
Arsen is a sleaze and a schmoozer, a master at groveling as well as being a two-faced little rat that’s too nosy for his own good. He enjoys locking himself up in his room and playing with his little chemistry set rather than get involved with the war, though his older siblings don’t find much resistance when they drag him out to play. He has a particular fascination with poisons – not particularly the deadly kind, but the kind that can turn a person’s stomach inside out or send them into painful and uncontrollable spasms. Whenever a member of the family becomes suddenly and inexplicably ill, it’s always Arsen that they turn to point fingers at. He always denies it, though one can always see the tiny smirk that pricks the corners of his lips when he does. (Whoever gets him, please make his middle name Nick.)

AVA SULLIVAN - PAWN, THIRTEEN [reserved for Arx]
FC Suggestion - Marina Nery
Ava has always been a quiet girl, preferring to stick to the shadows and uncomfortable with any attention her family gives her. She likes being left alone to play with her dolls, having silent tea parties in her room while her family plans for war. She doesn’t like the idea of fighting, and is actually rather opposed to it, but that doesn’t stop her siblings from taking advantage of her quick feet and quiet, unassuming nature and using it for their cause, finding her to be quite an effective little spy. They don’t keep her around for much of anything else, though – most people find her blank, wide-eyed stare a bit unnerving. Sometimes, it almost seems as though she were a doll herself.

LILITH SULLIVAN - THIRTY-EIGHT
Mrs. Sullivan hasn’t quite been the same since she woke up one morning to find her husband’s throat slit and his skin ice-cold against hers on the bed beside her. She seems obsessed with bringing down the Dewitts, constantly reminding her children of what they need to do to rightfully claim the company for themselves, but spends the rest of her days sitting in Charles’ old study, staring blankly out the window.

CHARLES SULLIVAN - FORTY-FOUR
Charles had always been an ambitious man, willing to do a little evil for a greater good if it came down to it, but he never seemed to be a bad person. He was always passionate about the business and his “role” in the district, always speaking of becoming the richest family Three has ever known, but would he have gone so far to ensure that dream as to kill his partner and childhood friend? No one really knows for sure.

HOW WOULD YOU PORTRAY THEM?: So first off, I really like Emilie a lot.

Emilie: Just from the mechanical standpoint, I see her as a character that has to be written in first person. With her fight, desire for attention, stubbornness, etc.

Anyways, in terms of her stubbornness, it's partially just who she is characteristic and partially calculated. She wont budge because she sees this the best way to get ahead, as the best way to get what she wants; and as long as what she wants benefits her (and she is always so sure that what she wants will benefit her) she'll stick to her guns even when what she wants isn't the best path for the family. In fact, she'd actually be somewhat detrimental to the family in some cases. She's super jealous of the sister, and I wouldn't put it above Emilie to even have some plots of trying to kill her sister (that don't work unless Lei, Tristan, and Dars want those plots to work). Emilie would also have no qualms about fabricating a story about her brother, Mr. Bishop, working with the Sullivans. Really, she is looking out for herself and only herself.

Leading off from that, she really, really wants to prove herself, and I think she most wants to do so to the Queen. While that contradicts trying to kill Luce, I think that these two ideas go hand in hand. Emilie wants most to be accepted, and the idea of being accepted goes hand in hand with being Luce, at least in Emilie's mind. She wants to be like Luce, if not be Luce. Emilie doesn't really trust who she is, she feels inferior to her 'siblings', and she wants to be like them. In a way, she looks up to Luce, but also hates Luce for being 'better than her'. An infeiority complex will definitely play a big part in who she is, especially when it comes to her fighting against it and telling herself that she is the best and etc.

Because Em has an inferiority complex, any 'little jabs' taken at her send her into a rage. This rage starts from her denial of feeling inferior, and then grows, being somewhat calculated. She cannot accept the little jabs because they break in two the lies she tells herself. Maybe this leads into her having a secret doll collection, or something along those lines. Seeing those perfect little dolls makes her feel better about herself. They show her who she wants to be, almost.

Clearly, while she is unscrupulous, amoral (or immoral, one of the two), and only looks out for herself, it is for complex reasons, especially because she is only interested in bettering herself.

Vivien: I think she's great (and really just a psychopath), but I honestly didn't connect with her much. I think other's have a better connection with her, and I wouldn't want to take away from their chances.

PLOT IDEAS: While Emilie wouldn't do anything to hurt the family on purpose, she wouldn't exactly think of what might hurt the family because she'd be thinking of herself and her interests. A big thing she would definitely do is throw Maddy under the bus even if he does nothing wrong (since she's kind of an ass hole to him). She'd also try killing her own queen (maybe).

One thing Emilie would definitely do is head into the Sullivan home by herself in an attempt to take everyone out and fail, putting herself in a really crappy situation. I feel like she'd definitely be one to die (and I don't think I'd have too much of a problem with that. It seems like she'd just put herself in situations that nobody could possibly get out of.)

HOW WOULD YOU PORTRAY THEM?:

Vivien

You see her eyes linger for seconds too long, pupils as hollowed out as the heart beating in her chest, chambers shimmering green with bitter envy for someone who just didn’t deserve to take what was made for her. She is gentle with her words but her tone is impolite, suitable to the impassive expressions she wears like a veil over her pretty face. Soft as a doe, they say, but too strange to approach, too odd to describe in words. There is something wrong with the girl, you just cant place your finger on it, yet it is present like a dark aura shrouding her form and sending a cold shiver into the air, warning you that while she was quiet, there was something darker lurking inside, past the large eyes that seemed to stare so obediently at the queen of the Sulliven family. But oh, she is so willing to do her bidding, isn’t she? So loyal, so enthusiastic to carry out the simplest of orders, as if it were an honor to serve the queen and kiss her feet in awe. Such a selfless spirit can be forgiven for her sickness and secret sadism, couldn't she? She is merely a troubled girl with disturbing thoughts, nothing a few doctor’s visits couldn’t fix, right?

When she decapitates the queen to steal her crown, you will swallow those words like a bitter poison. Keep your friends close, and enemies closer.. She is the one they discuss in plays and ancient tales; the jealous sibling, the back-stabbing, betraying, greedy thief of the throne. You think she is loyal and respectful, bound to her duty like the blood that binds her to her sister, who wishes nothing more than to serve, to please, and to witness the downfall of a common rival. How wrong you are. She cares not for the Dewitt family as a common enemy. Will murdering their king grant her the queen’s throne? No, they cannot fulfill her desires, therefore they are of little significance to her. She must take matters into her own hands if she is to conquer, and that means getting rid of the conniving bitch sitting on her throne. She may seem harmless, misunderstood, merely suffering from a mental sickness that brings her giggles and pleasures when others feel pain, but inside there is a storm waiting to sweep the Sulliven family and purify it of the venomous witch that thinks she can lead them alongside the king.

Sander thinks he has a pretty good hold on life, really. He knows how to smile and he has found out how to laugh, even though his life has him swirling around at a thousand miles an hour. Sure, there are times when the pressure of his father's memory and the fact that he doesn't want to avenge his father's death becomes too much. There are times when he's lying in bed and he realizes that he's doing such an awful job of being a Sullivan that the walls of his world press in to him and the windows are shut and so are the doors and he can no longer remember how to breathe and he panics and

"Suck it up, Cass." That’d be Nox. A man of few words.

Nox is the only one he'll allow to call him Cass. It's a girls name, he knows, but it feels different coming from Nox. Sander wishes that he could talk to Nox more, admit his secrets, like about how he thinks about guys how you're supposed to think about girls, and how he's worried about Cleo being more sadistic than anyone suspects. But Nox doesn't talk about things like that. Nox is too busy being angry to think about other feelings. And that worries Sander. The boy really thinks that there’s something that makes his brother so angry, in the same way that there are a hundred thousand things that make him panic. He just wishes he could find out what, so he could help his brother enjoy things the same way that he does.

Sander really does enjoy things, too. He loves wiring, programming, those things that district 3 is so well known for. Really, he’d perhaps be the best to take over the empire, but he has no want for that. Attention is something that he generally dislikes, and the happy face that he wears without fail means that no one tends to give him a second glance.

He’s desperate to protect his family, but he has such difficulty resorting to violence to fix things. I can imagine him having taken somewhat to religion in secret, and his recognition of that of God in everyone makes him so result by harming another human. One of the reasons he panics so much is that he knows it’s going to end up being him that has the perfect chance to kill Lux, and that he’ll be shamed forever because he won’t take the opportunity, or worse: that he will.

So he fights with words rather than fists. This is another reason he thinks that he’s a shameful example of a Sullivan: the boy can’t win a fight because he won’t try. His sibling all tease him about the fact that any of the girls could beat him up. Sander laughs it off, goes along with it, and pretends it’s all part of his act, but in reality, he’s ashamed, because he’s the odd one out. Even his twin is better at fighting than he is, and he’s older by twelve minutes.

Vivien is another bone of contention within him. She’s meant to be his twin, but he’s more distant to her than any of his other siblings. In all the books he reads, twins have special connections, but he and Viv couldn’t be further from each other. At least with Cleo, he vaguely understands her and her madness. His twin means frighteningly little to him, and he knows so little about her.

The truth is, when the rest of the Sullivans move in straight lines, Sander can only move diagonally.

PLOT IDEAS: Sander's feelings for his brother are only going to grow and grow. It'll start with a little flutter, blamed on familiarity, but who knows where it will end? And it will wear him down until he is skeletal because he knows it's wrong but it's so right. He knows he shouldn't feel what he does, but he can't stop it, as hard as he tries.

He's also the sort of kid who really needs a friend. Who better to spill your secret to than your mortal enemy? A secret friendship between Sander and one of the Dewitt clan (Maddy, perhaps?) would just be perfect. Sander would feel so conflicted between his family ties, although he has such mixed feelings about his siblings, and his friend, who he loves dearly.

I can also imagine him getting into a heap of trouble for loud mouthing family plots in town. Perhaps a quick dissolve into alcoholism or drugs could be the the cause of this?

I'd also love to explore religion with this kid, from the POV of a kid who knows he's not meant to be religious but feels that he has to be. It would be so conflicting with his family's motivations, and really interesting to write. It would also be the sort of secret that Sander would have trouble keeping.

HOW WOULD YOU PORTRAY THEM?: Howie knows he’s strong but he doesn’t quite know just how strong he is. He can lift weights all day but at times, when he gets really into simple things, he can accidentally break stuff. Mostly pencils; those tiny things are never sturdy enough (he just has an iron grip on them constantly, contrary to what he’ll tell you). He’s found that because of his sheer size and seemingly always neutral or angry face, people avoid him. The boy doesn’t purposely try to ward them off but it does come in handy with his Tourette’s. Howie’s known for a tic of his head not being able to stay still most times, always jerking slightly to the side. It’s just some unconscious thing he does that people have noticed, but one dark, icy glare is enough to keep them quiet.

All he really wants is friends but he’s too afraid of being made fun of for his tics that get worse when he’s stressed. At home, though, Howie feels completely safe and secure, opening up and showing his signature good guy side. He’s all smiles and nearly like an over-sized puppy to his siblings but can quickly turn into a pit bull should he feel they are threatened in any way. There's no doubt that Howie would follow any of his brothers or sisters (or cousin) to hell and back and that he'd do anything to keep them safe. The Dewitt family is everything to him – his love for his siblings knows no bounds because in the end family is all you’ll have, right?

He’s not afraid to throw his weight around with any wrongdoers and will certainly swing a fist or two at anyone that’s smack talking. Coupled with that, however, is his terrible sense of guilt. No matter who he lands a punch on Howie always apologizes, and sometimes on rare occasions even offering to help bandage them up if they’re bleeding. Even a Sullivan. The brute of a boy doesn’t have very much of a deep-rooted hatred for the Sullivans but if one of them were to bring up Regis Dewitt, Howie’s temper would flare and he’d be sure to make it known Regis was the better man and shouldn’t have died.

Howie’s an honest boy that tries to see the good in everyone – well, mostly everyone. Those Sullivans can be sly creatures.

PLOT IDEAS: What is better than some interesting forbidden loooveee~ xD Anyway, Howie could possibly have a thing for Alice. He’d like her honesty and see her uncaring front as something like I put on an angry face every day to keep people away from me so I don’t get made fun of, maybe she’s the same way. He’d think there’s more behind that façade and who knows, he could be sorely mistaken. Or maybe she could be his kryptonite and then be the reason for his downfall~

Champion [cham-pee-uh n] - noun - a warrior or knight who did battle for another, especially a king or queen, to defend their rights or honor

SHE IS: Hot-headed and desperate. Emilie isn't ready to let herself become some sob story, the poor little orphan picked off the corrupted streets of District Three out of sympathy. She may not have DeWitt blood flowing through her veins, but she is still determined to wear her family name like the crown it is - something to be proud of. And because she wasn't born into that honor, she has to earn it, slaving away desperately toward the ghost of a victory that is so close she can feel it brushing over her fingertips and toes. Effort has never been a problem for Emilie. She's willing to give it her all, working until she is cracked and breaking, just to achieve her goals. And yet, if one were to ask her what her greatest fear is (overlooking the fact that she would never freely talk about her fears and soil the family name), she would tell them that she is absolutely terrified of making mistakes. She easily masks this fear with anger, snapping when someone discovers even her most minor flaws, but deep inside she hates that she is something less than the fearless warrior she longs to be.

CHARACTER INTERACTION: Emilie despises the fact that while she has to work so hard to earn her title, the rest of her siblings are able to possess it effortlessly. She envies all of them, perhaps Luce most of all due to her complete and utter perfection. And then there are those who are less than they are supposed to be, such as Maddy. Those who are too weak to stand up and fight, so they come up with excuses to avoid the conflict. Emilie has never understood why anyone would want to solve problems using words, which everyone knows cut far deeper than a blade. In her mind, the only proper way to solve problems is completely and finally. Their ideas clash and so do they - Emilie has been finding it routine lately to argue with her brother.

PLOT IDEAS: There seems to be a lot of tension between the king/queens and their lower pieces - perhaps one or both sides could have an attempted overthrowing, which would be snuffed out almost immediately? I think a traitor could potentially be very interesting, as well - a person who makes a deal with the other side and acts as a spy?

HOW WOULD YOU PORTRAY THEM?: My name is Iggy, little did my parents know that the meaning would come to shape who I am as a person. The name Iggy, my name, means firey one or fire, and well to be honest I have a firey personality. That's all I have going for me is that fire that burns in my heart. I'm not much good at anything else. On top of that I've never really fit in with the rest of them. My acquantance with them is merely that of a cousin, the bond they share is not my bond. It probably never will be either, but I can't let it keep me down. I have a purpose to fulfill within this family, and I'm determined to figure out what it is, and how to do it. Though I'm more of a disaster than anything, nothing ever goes right for me, all of the fancy planning that goes into my schemes and they are terrible. More often than not I need the help of Alfie to offer a helping hand to me to get me out.

So yeah, Alfie, he is my best friend, more often than not it's us who have to sit off to the side and watch everything that goes on. I hate being treated like a child, but at least I never let it keep me down, that "fire" that burns within my heart, the fire to be accepted, to fit in, to be a help to the people that I love, love as if they were my brothers and sisters. Often this leads to more than a few scuffles with everyone since I force myself in on the planning and what not involved with this war we are in. Sure, I'm not the oldest, and I'm not the strongest...I'm the smallest though, being small has it's advantages. I can get into small places, listen in on people without them noticing, and generally just do things that other people can't. They don't see the potential in it though, they are to busy seeing who can swing a sword the best. Alfie sees it though, that's why we always work together on plans. He's the closest thing to a brother that I have in the family, the one who listens to me and comes up with crazy plans with me. We understand what it's like to be left out.

Like I said, I'm not the best with a sword...or anything for that matter. I end up making a mess of things with my inept abilities and dare I say clumsy self. My heart is always in it though, I'll always be there even if they think I'm invisible, and I'll always be there to help. Whenever they are looking to light back up that fire in their hearts and minds I'll be there to help.

PLOT IDEAS: Well I would love to have her in lots of threads with Alfie where they talk about all the great things they want to do. Like they use their imaginations and pretend they are fighting the Sullivans. Or even make small scale models of their plans and watch them fail on a small scale. Maybe some threads involving her and the other family members where they try to help her be more coordinated of something. I can picture her falling around everywhere, and tripping alot because she is so uncoordinated in the threads..

Alice Sullivan

Alice is a name befitting a girl of modesty and delicacy, not the bullheaded train-wreck of a young woman that is Alice Sullivan. Born with her foot in her mouth and tendency to speak exactly what’s on her mind, Alice’s brutal honesty is something of legend around the Sullivan house. Headstrong and completely uncaring towards whatever consequences she or anyone else may have to endure as a result of her actions, she’s a difficult person to like. However, her loyalty is unfailing and you can always trust her to never sugarcoat anything, and she doesn’t understand the concept of back-stabbing. She’s simple-minded and not all that bright, but her stubborn nature makes her difficult to manipulate and about as unmovable as a rock in her decisions. She’s fearless, truthful, and a master at intimidation.

The problems of others are irrelevant: sympathy is sparse. You're blunt and straightforward - hesitation is never an option when your mind is reeling. Often, you're wrong, but you're not afraid to voice that opinion anyway. It doesn't matter, after all. Malice and cruelty are not concepts you understand - underhand acts have not once crossed your mind. Instead, you're forceful and brave, a fighting spark who manages to light more fires than she puts out. The concept of the word 'lie' is not familiar to you - the words others speak are taken directly as they are said, although nothing will convince you to change your mind once it is set. Despite the blatant insensitivity that fills your mind and therefore your mouth, you're not unkind. Known for saying the words on everybody's mind and completely oblivious as to when to stop, you're not one to hold grudges.

You're consistant and trustworthy - if you say you'll do something, you'll go to the ends of the earth to get it done. Limits and the usual social boundaries don't restrict you - you'll do whatever it takes to get where you want to be. Iggy Dewitt

Cousin to the Dewitts and only child to the uncle who now takes care of them all, Iggy was disregarded from the start. Having grown up separate from the rest of the children, she lacks the deep, familial bond they all share. Despite this, Iggy is quite gun-ho about the whole war and is desperate to be included in fighting and planning, obsessively so. However, her clumsiness and lack of training often leave her sitting on the sidelines along with little Alfie, though she hardly ever feels sorry for herself. What she lacks in coordination and fighting skill she makes up for in a fiery disposition and drive to be the best that she can be for her family, even if her best isn’t much. She is only kept in the loop by Alfie, the closest thing she has to a sibling and a friend, and they can often be seen together.

You're not selfish. You're not. It's just - you're not used to sharing, having lived alone with your father since he brought you home from the orphanage as a tiny child. He was yours for ever so long, and now he's a man with so much further to spread his affection - no longer your devoted father but rather a man of many skills and much work. The quiet resentment to the noisy house and unruly new 'siblings' is easily hidden beneath a drive unmatched by any other. Where the other children feel, your emotions beat through every bone in your body - you are the war, you are the mission. You ache to help, to aid in every way you can and do what you're supposed to. Not only is it all you have, but it's your only chance at winning your father back once and for all. Perhaps if you can only concoct a plan that that finally changes everything and save the day, you'll have his undivided attention again. A smile, even.

Determined that you don't ask a lot, you're somehow still slightly spoiled and a little bratty. You're cheerful, bright and persistant in everything you do. Easily likened to a wildfire, your plans and plots often get out of hand, and in the end you need help escaping from whatever situation you've found yourself in. Here, you are thankful for your new family and not the slightest bit ashamed of your efforts. Continually, you try. Your scorn lies with those who do not make an effort - for those who do not express emotion openly and feel in vivid rainbows as you do. Slightly over energetic and hyperactive, bubbling with ideas and plans that nobody quite has the time to listen to, you're a source of annoyance to some of the siblings. You're the queen of adventure, always up for anything and enthusiastic enough to make up for the rest of the districts slow pace and set frowns.

HOW WOULD YOU PORTRAY THEM?: Howie is a guilt ridden man, knowing that even though what he does for his family is right, he feels bad for hurting other people. He tries to talk himself out of it, tries to convince himself that they'll get over the pain; but it only makes him feel even worse about what he's done. He says that “I'm only protecting my family, I don't mean to hurt them.” but that just makes him cry, because he knows that he's causing others hell. This happens basically after every fight that he's involved in. He finds comfort in cutting himself, it's his form of punishment, repenting almost for his sins. He can't go on without one. However he isn't depressed all the time. He enjoys the company of others, even the Sullivans when they aren't trying to hurt his siblings. Once they get past his brooding demeanor. He doesn't make friends easily because of this, but he's loyal to the few hat he has. Howie enjoys going for walks even though the air isn't as clean as he wishes. It helps him think and sort through everything. It's a calming almost meditation for him. He enjoys dancing and lively conversations, though sometimes the topics the citizens in 3 talk about are beyond his comprehension. Though he's very unsure about his sexuality, as sex is a foreign concept to him. He just enjoys hanging out with his family. He enjoys the occasional cigarette.

PLOT IDEAS: He's confused by love, but most importantly about his love towards his brother Lux. He and Lux have always been close, but Howie feels something deeper is there. Unsure of what to do he goes to the brothel hoping it would somehow sort everything out. He also have friends with some of the Sullivans; which only add to his guilt for fighting them. However they make up for it because hey they're supposed to hate each other but they don't. Maybe some interesting meet ups at the bar.

HOW WOULD YOU PORTRAY THEM?: *cracks knuckles* Sometimes being the cruelest, cunningest and sadistic does not make you the best person. Sometimes the people who can fight, the people who are the bravest aren't always the strongest. The strongest people are always those who can see through the darkness towards the light that is ahead. And Cass can. He looks further then everyone else in his family, past the darkness that seems to have shrouded each and every one of their minds and past he darkness that enfolds them all, past the stuff that makes them seen as evil. There is always a smile on his, no matter how forced it is there is always one there. No one needs to tell him to be happy, because out of them all he is the one that always is.

seriously this part about him never being taken seriously because he smiles happens to me all the time omr. People don't see you as serious, they don't see you as the kind of person to add purpose to every order and demand they give out when you smile. Cass has this thing where no matter what he says or does a smile is always not too far behind. And it infuriates everyone around him. Sure people don't mind the smiling, but sometimes you just have to stop smiling and take what is in front of you with the utmost importance. People loose respect for you when you are always smiling. Cass hasn't quite figured this out yet, but sometimes the snide comments and snippy remarks are because they don't respect him. It is awfully hard to respect a joker.

One of the biggest reasons why he is always smiling is because he has to. He says it as almost like a duty to be that light in everyone life. To be the person that people go to if they are really upset. Even if he is in a bad mood he will always try to appear upbeat and joyful. He knows that his family -no matter what they want to believe- would not survive if there wasn't someone like him. Cass believes that he is the sun, the light in the darkness and although sometimes you just want to extinguish that light you know it is their to guide your way and keep you safe. And after plundering around in that depression of the shadows, with the coldness gripping you, you just need the warmth and love he can give you. No one can live unhappily, it isn't living at all.

Cass isn't necessarily brave, he only chooses to be brave when he has to. Each day a new smile finds its way to his lips and he pulls on a brave face for brothers and sisters. He is the big brother because he is selfless, he might not be brave, but when the time comes he will be as brave as he can be. Everyday he pulls on a new smile and that does make him braver, it makes him stringer and tougher then the rest of him, because he can go on, he can move without knowing the consequences, but be happy with what he is doing. Nothing gets him down. He is just an endless bubble of light. He is tough and strong, and knows how to work. His bravery comes in a different form then most and I do see Cass as being loyal, loyalty to him is above everything else and yet I believe that even though he is loyal that if the lives of everyone he loved were at stack and he had to make a choice he would do anything to protect the people he loves. Even if it is the wrong thing to do.

He is so incredibly stubborn and sometimes when he has made up his mind he gets impatient. He believes he is right and because he sees himself -and has taken up the role of the big brother- he does expect them to believe him. He is an honest boy, Cass knows that lies are poisoned little things, but he isn't stupid, so also knows that sometimes truths can lead you into more trouble. To him this is all just a game. Words and stories are little things that people use to twist you, to manipulate you and wrap you around their finger. Cass believes that honesty and selflessness are the two things that will get him through the war has just begun. He is ignorant in that way too. He doesn't see himself as a target, although completely reckless and brave and stubborn to the point of self sacrifice he doesn't see himself has dangerous.

Maybe... Maybe some part of him believes that this face of laughter and joy is just all an act and that it is simply there to make the boy seem less threatening. Warm them all away from him. In that way perhaps he is the smartest of them all. Cass wants to be able to do good, he wants to be able to prove to everyone who he is an what he is capable of. But he isn't like the rest of them. He isn't just a thing to be used in a game of chess. He knows he is going to be used and yet he will smile the whole way through. He can't stop it and although he can try to resist and stubbornly fight it he will fight. He will act and work because in the end he is doing this all for the people that he loves. He will kill and hurt for them because he loves them and to Cass they are worth it all.

Cass knows they need to see something right in their lives. They need to win this fight,but they also need someone positive to look up onto, someone where there isn't only darkness and Cass is that one person. He makes sure they see him as the one positive light in a darkening world. Everyone needs a light, because without it we would all be lost.

PLOT IDEAS: OH OH OH Well Cass has a thing for his older brother so I can already see that there will be action there. Incest, maybe? Yes. I would totes agree with that. He is decent hearted he is driven by that need that need to protect his family, so i can easily see Cass doing a deal, or even betraying the ones he loves if it means he can protect them. Perhaps the Dewitts offer him a deal, to spare someone? He would take it whole-heartedly if it means he can act selflessly to save their lives.

HOW WOULD YOU PORTRAY THEM?:

Maddy would be quite used to people coming to him for advice, but he'd never let it get to his head and would remain humble, as he is happy with his station and has no desire to have it change for the better or for the worse. He's practically lived in books his entire life, ranging from actual literature to every instruction manual and textbook he could get his hands on, as well as reading the dictionary from cover to cover. He believes that honesty is the best policy and that subterfuge can only end it tears. Lying never solved anything. Unfortunately, he assumes that most people feel the same way about such things and so doesn't always realize when he should keep his mouth shut or when someone is convincing him to do something he shouldn't be. He'd also be given to long winded speeches that don't really seem to have an ending because he is easily distracted and has a tendency to go off on tangents after making the original point known and therefore can't tell when he should stop talking.

In my head, Alice sounds like the kind of girl who constantly gets in trouble for mouthing off to people, especially say... teachers or the occasional peacekeeper, but she doesn't care because she knows her family will intervene before anything serious happens. She's a tomgirl and a bit of a bruiser, and picks fights with any and all children that get in her way, even if they weren't really in her way to begin with. Once she's made up her mind, there is no middle ground. The world is a checkerboard of black and white to her. There is no room for any shade of grey, and if you try to convince her otherwise you're going to wind up with a split lip or a black eyes. She lives off of split second decisions, acting first and steamrolling anything in her path like a freight train and then stomping on the pieces afterwards. She's not malevolent, she just likes to talk with her fists because she doesn't know how else to express herself. She considers herself to be dumb as that's what shes always been told, but she is quicker on the uptake than even she would think.
PLOT IDEAS:

I feel that Madison would sneak around his siblings backs to talk with the occasional Sullivan. Perhaps he even falls in love with his opposite number in Vivien, finding her intriguing because she listens to him and is always smiling, only to have his heart broken when it is revealed she was just using him for information. He'd be strongly opposed to his siblings endeavors but would supply them with whatever they needed since they are his family. I'd say he's quite good at figuring things out and would probably have stumbled across Luce's actions sooner rather than later and would keep such damning knowledge under a tight lock and key; unless off course, he could be charmed into revealing it (By say... Vivien?) and damage his family forever. He'd be very willing to do whatever Lux or Lucy asked of him, perhaps chiding them on occasion like a disapproving parent. He wouldn't get along well with Emilie because he would view her rash, brash nature as full of traits that she worries will some day get him, and their entire family, in trouble. He'd be a little envious of Howie's strength, if only because he knows if he was as strong as his brother as well as having his natural intelligence, everyone would listen to his advice with no problems. Iggy and Alfie would be disregarded. Not intentionally, but he'd talk down to them and treat them more like toddlers, not seeing anyway that they could contribute.

For Alice I was thinking there could be a "castling" thread where Alice takes the place of Nox in something she shouldn't have and something bad happens to her, as that is the chess move wherein the rook and the king exchange places on the board. She'd be very loyal to Nox but get into a lot of verbal disagreements with Cleo, having a strong distaste for the flowery but poisonous words that bubble out of her eldest sisters mouth. Even though she doesn't always understand what Cleo is talking about, she knows that they aren't words that she likes. She knows there is something seriously wrong with Cleo but she doesn't exactly know how to put into into speech. And if she doesn't like something, you can be sure that she'll tell them straight off the bat. Vivien she views as an empty headed idiot and sometimes confides in her only because she knows Viv is the only one that won't talk to other people. I can also see her beating up on Arsen like the snot-nosed punk that he is. The best relationships she'd have would be with Cassander and Ava, considering the former to be funny (maybe she's the only one that laughs at his jokes) And feeling that she has to protect the youngest member of the clan since the older kids are preoccupied. One more thing! She'd never refer to her siblings by name but would call them by insulting nicknames instead.

The piece of paper lies under the door as you walk away, your hair flying through the air and the small notebook clutched tightly under your stick-thin arms. Stones crunch as you step harshly on the ground, your steps fading as you come to the far edge of town, away from the smoke that coats the air and only fuels the war that continues to brutally at home. It is then that you pull out the book, open it to the next page, and begin to write down your thoughts.

You have always been a child of words, better known for the blocky handwriting on paper than your awkward voice that hardly emerges from your paper-dry lips and paled face. A nod will suffice for you, a simple tip of the head to show you're listening as your hand continues to run across the lined paper with a careful simplicity that shows through your narrowed eyes, complete with the slight tension in your shoulders and the way that you bite on your lip, concentration pulling you into the world of fantasy, new worlds coming to life on paper and beauty sprouting from the seedlings planted between the lightly sketched lines of the paper. Each word sprinkled on the paper is another clue to the overall story of your life.

Sometimes you're hard to find, sometimes they don't know where to look for you, dear. Iggy combs the streets and comes up empty-handed, dust in her hair and a small frown decorating her tender face that you've come to adore so much. You love your little sister, did you know that? You understand her more than anyone does, you see her as a human, capable of so much more than sitting on the sidelines like a proper lady. You want to help her and sometimes you do. PLOT IDEAS:

Goodness, what if he helped Iggy to infiltrate the family in some way, add a little additional power to the otherwise useless pawns. He is the brains of the two of them and although it doesn't come quickly, good ideas tend to find their way to Alfie quickly. I’m not really sure though, plot ideas aren’t my best strength. Or, he could become lost one day and Iggy can't find him and it turns into a family debate. Do you leave him out to die or what? IDK, these may not make any sense but I’m trying c:

HOW WOULD YOU PORTRAY THEM?: He is, in layman's terms, evil.

Eviler than the Devil but shyer than the moon, and he's careful when making a move and even more cautious when it's his opponents turn. With hands faster than his tongue, he can easily poison in a cup of pineapple juice. He never dares go all the way through with it, doesn't even allow himself to think of the consequences he'd face with actually killing someone. Instead, he does something better than ending someone's life: he makes them suffer. There would be no fun in putting an end to his act, so instead, he's decided to make himself feared. He wants people to anticipate the moment he slips something in their glass, but the sad part is that they'll never notice it.

And so he waits. He waits for the moment his older brother, Nox, or older sister, Cleo, gets tossed to the side of the war like a broken chess piece, and then he, Arsen Sullivan, will finally be successful, and when he reaches the end, when it goes through with everything, and it's proven he's the strongest of the Sullivans, he will finally receive the title he deserved all along:

PLOT IDEAS: I think that Arsen will hate his family, but hate the other family even more and possibly backstab? I don't know, I think he wants to be looked at as something more than a pawn but he knows that's what he is and stuff...
