The god-awful heat just doesn’t end, and in fact you can feel it getting worse as the day wears on. While the morning hours were calm and even a little cool – if you ignored the flying leeches – then the day’s atmosphere was even a bit bearable. Oh, but you reason that the Gamemakers will get bored of being nice, and a period of relief can only be followed by a period of heat so bad that you wish you were surrounded by hellfire.

As it turns out, you would be right. As the afternoon hours pass by, the sweat makes your neon-colored clothes stick to you even worse than they have been, but thankfully, thankfully, the air cools ever-so-slightly as the sky darkens and the anthem begins to play.

A single face is displayed in the sky tonight, and how disappointing is that? One more day in this godforsaken Arena is one more day alive – or one more day in the unbearable heat, whichever you prefer.

Emerald Shore – District One

Sweaty as your hands probably are, they’re still good for counting; with thirteen down, there are eleven tributes remaining. If you plan to go home, ten more must die.

As the anthem ends, the final portrait fades, once more leaving the sky lifeless.
