Personality:
Achilles stands at a height of six feet two inches, but his once muscular build has become quite thin. He has short black hair and brooding dark brown eyes that have lost the light behind them. While he used to always be clean shaven, now Achilles seems to always have a bit of stubble grazing his hard jaw. Although he does not smile often anymore, when he does, his eyes light up and his entire face takes on a sort of boyish look.
After working both in his District and as an Avox, Achilles' hands have become worn and callused. His body is much weaker than it was when he was first made an Avox, but for an Avox, Achilles is relatively strong and well built. He has several scars dotting his body including a prominent one along the left side of his jaw. The largest and most gruesome scar Achilles has, however, is one running down his left side. This scar is from when he was first captured in the wilderness. Although the scar has healed over time to a jagged line running down his body, if he gets hit on that side too hard, it will begin to hurt again.
Achilles used to be the outgoing and playful type. He loved to make his friends laugh and was always the first to try something new. He would occasionally go too far in his games and get into trouble, but Achilles would never let this trouble follow him home. He loved his family with all of his heart, especially his thirteen year old sister, Lorikeet. Since he became an Avox, however, Achilles has lost a lot of his former energy. He smiles less and behaves most of the time. Achilles is still very protective, however, and will stick up for any of his Avox friends. He hates being humiliated and pushed around because of his status as an Avox, but rather than pushing back, he simply pushes this anger down until it boils behind his dark eyes.History:
Although a lot of his personality has been taken from him, Achilles is still the dreamer he has always been. His wild imagination is just as vivid as it was when he was a child. He often zones out of reality and imagines what his life would be like if he had escaped. This tendency to become distracted gets Achilles into trouble and he has several scars to show for this. No matter how many taunts he receives from the Capitol people for being a "hopeless dreamer," Achilles refuses to give up his dreams of a better life. He will sometimes sneak a dirty napkin away and use dirty or anything available to draw images of the different things that run through his imagination. These art pieces, however, are quickly destroyed and Achilles must dream them up over and over, saving them in the one place they cannot be discovered: his mind.
Achilles is what the Capitol people would call a "decent Avox." He is fairly obedient and his sturdy build makes him capable of performing tasks that would be too difficult for other Avoxes. Although he is not as outgoing as he used to be, Achilles still jumps at any chance at having company. He is very loyal to his friends and will give them a glimpse of his now elusive smiles. The one thing that angers him more than anything is when someone attacks the weakling or underdog. He constantly sticks up for the weaker person and this is another good quality that has become a terrible flaw in the world of Avoxes. Achilles has become used to receiving punishments for different things from "daydreaming" while working to violence when another Avox is attacked. Over time, Achilles has become indifferent to the different punishments sent his way and the searing pain no longer pulls screams from his chest.
Achilles was the oldest of two children. He lived with his mother, father, and younger sister, Lorikeet. With a seven year difference between the two siblings, Achilles developed a very protective nature over his little sister and they grew very close. His family's financial status was similar to most households of District Eight. They had just enough to go through life satisfied, but they never had enough for anything other than the necessities.Codeword: Odair
As he grew up, Achilles began to wonder what the world was like outside the District Eight boundaries. He had always had a taste for adventures and the mind of a dreamer, but the mystery of what lay beyond the boundaries of the District befuddled him. One day, while he was waiting for Lorikeet to get out of school, Achilles saw a strange man running amongst the flocks of sheep. Curious, Achilles followed the man until he reached a shaded area. The man, suspicious of Achilles' intentions since he was already a rather large boy, took a swipe at him with a small knife. The attack would leave a scar that is still visible on Achilles' jaw.
Once the man realized that Achilles was not a threat to him, he revealed the he was on the run. Achilles learned about District Thirteen that day and from then on, the possibilities haunted his mind. Finally, when he turned eighteen, Achilles knew what he was going to do: he was going to run away. Although he loved his family, especially eleven year old Lorikeet, Achilles wanted to know what was out there and so he ran. The problem with living in a small District like District Eight is that it does not take long for someone to notice you absence.
Within a day, Achilles was found. He still has nightmares about the events that followed. The pain of being snared was only overridden when they strapped him down and cut out his tongue. Achilles knows that they would not have told anyone in District Eight what had happened and his family most likely has no idea where he is now. The only way for any of them to find out is if thirteen year old Lorikeet is reaped as tribute, a nightmare that also haunts Achilles. Each year, Achilles hopes with all his might that he will not see his little sister's face appear on the screen with the heading "District Eight Female Tribute." Even though he cannot see his family anymore, Achilles is comforted by the thought that they must be safe back home in District Eight.
