Windy Mathers
Windy's lungs stung as she inhaled the wintry air. She couldn't remember the last time she ran this fast. Windy was running towards the lake- after all water was her strong hold. Out of the corner of her eye she saw another tribute, clothed in black against the pure white background. Windy veered to the left, the lake was big enough to for them to coexist. Windy didn't exactly want to kill that tribute- however if they made a move towards her she wouldn't hesitate.
Windy tore her focus from the tribute and looked forward only to see the lake a few steps away. Was she here already?! Windy tried to stop herself but she had gained to much momentum and in her effort to stop herself tripped over her feet and slid onto the ice face first.
She glided across the ice on her stomach to the middle of the lake before she finally stopped. Her cheek stung and she was too terrified to move. Slowly Windy placed her hand on the ice and carefully pushed up. The ice held so she put her other hand up and lifted herself into a sitting position.
Windy was totally vulnerable right now- she prayed that the tribute near by didn't have a long range weapon.
Should she stand up and walk? The chill of the ice was seeping through her coat and she needed to find cover. If the ice broke would the cold water be too much to handle? Windy was a brilliant swimmer being from District 4- but could she withstand water at this temperature?
Windy felt a little more daring today- after all she just watched two people die, that would be enough to drive someone crazy. Windy slowly stood up. Curse this black attire! Windy was on her feet, the ice below her boots. She looked up, it wasn't really that far to the edge, she didn't travel out as far as she thought she had.
Slowly Windy walked across the ice, putting as little pressure on the lake as possible. The water back at home never froze up like this- maybe a little at the shore but not completely solid! The only reason Windy new this was frozen water was because of stories the older crew mates told. The story was about a pompous ship captain who declared that he could sail through the toughest of storms. The next day when he was far out at see a strong wind blew across the ocean and froze it solid. The ship was stuck and the captain was unable to sail- thus being proved wrong.
Windy took another step, then another. Before she knew it she was placing a her boot on land.
Maybe the Gamemakers would give her a small break- probably not. Windy slipped her pack off and flipped the top up. The first thing Windy saw was a gleaming dagger on the top of the supplies in the back pack.
Would this take someone's life? Quite possibly. Windy closed her pack. She didn't have time to question human nature.
