To cure a headache, Michaela suggested going outside. It was a rare that the two sisters spoke to one another but upon seeing her sister’s distress, the younger offered her advice. Typically, Callie would not have as willingly taken her sister’s words but she had already tried everything. Drugs didn’t help, neither did a hot shower. Not even a nap was able to numb the pain. It left the girl in desperate need to clear her head.

She had woken up that morning with her head pounding and her thoughts jumbled. The pain was severe enough to make the studious girl close her books and stare out the window for a long time. That was how Michaela found her, uncharacteristically doing nothing of personal gain. Her lab set was closed; microscope out of focus, books littered the ground. The little girl knew her sister wasn’t acting normally. That was when the two spoke and surprisingly, the elder sister listened to her younger.

So, Callie found herself in a park. Her coat was slung across her shoulders, fitted tightly around her arms but the ends fluttered around her waist. The zipper was left open, exposing her dark t-shirt to the open air. The cold felt good against her hot face and with a few breathes of fresh air, some of the buzzing disappeared.

Eventually, after her legs began to grow tired, she found a bench. Sitting down, Callie pulled a book out of her bag. It was a small journal on the heart and one of her favorites. When teenagers had romance novels they read over and over, Callie would be reading this journal for the third time. With each time, she did discover something new. She learned each time she read a book and was determined to memorize each. That was why she read each several times. She was called crazy often but she ignored them. They wouldn’t abuse her anymore when she was on the top.

A gust of wind suddenly picked up and fluttered the pages of Callie’s book and sent her bookmarker flying. Most of her markers, usually scrap pieces of paper, she would have let flying but this particular one had notes on it. Notes that she had spent hours working on for this book. She couldn’t lose it.

Without hesitating a moment, the girl flew from her seat, abandoning her book on the bench. A pair of boots, almost too small for Callie hindered her movements as she charged after the floating sheet. She was suddenly tripped up by a stone that she had not noticed. “God damm—“ Her words were cut short as she had to hold out her hands to catch herself.

Callie watched in despair as the sheet of paper fell to the ground into a puddle. She could practically feel the ink running on the page, her work coming undone. “That’s just great.” She muttered, getting to her feet. She rubbed her sore knees with a hand and hoped that if there was a cut, she didn’t get blood all over her pants. It would be just a joy to explain to her mother why she would end up with another scar. Her lovely mother that would once again suggest surgery to get rid of them and surgery to fix everything else that was wrong with Callie. Too bad for her mother that there wasn’t a surgery to fix her daughter’s personality too.

Rezuri had been walking out of medicine class when she saw several papers blowing in the wind. When she saw Callie running after the papers, Rezuri headed to the papers, although not as fast as her. Lifting one of them out of the puddle after lifting Callie up, she saw the black ink splotches running into each other like rain on a car's glass window. "Well, these are goners." She picked up the rest of the sopping wet papers and handed them back to Callie. "You might be able to save, well, a couple of them. Highly doubt it though."

She quickly looked into Callie's eyes, immediately sensing the frustration behind them. Then she saw her hands and knee, stained with blood. She wanted to help, but she knew herself when she was in a bad mood she wanted nothing to do with anyone.

"Are you sure you're gonna be okay with that cut....?"

<sub>Callie could only give a stunned silence as a complete stranger helped her to her feet and picked up her papers. She was a shorter girl with brown hair. She had never seen the other girl in her life but Callie didn’t complain about the help. "Well, these are goners." The girl had started to pick up Callie’s papers and handed to her. The sheets of papers were covered in smeared ink and were unreadable.

“That’s just great.” Callie muttered, taking the papers from the girl. Hours of notes going to waste as she stood there.

"You might be able to save, well, a couple of them. Highly doubt it though." The girl also said, picking up the rest of the papers. Some of the words were still legible but most of it had gone. Cautiously, Callie picked the damp pieces of paper out of the other girl’s hands. The nasty material soaked into her skin and it was slimy. She repressed a shudder.

Out of the corner of her eye, Callie noticed the fellow student checking the cuts on her hands and the small blood spots bleeding through her jeans. She looked like another girl interested in being a doctor. Maybe Callie could meet her on familiar ground. "Are you sure you're gonna be okay with that cut....?" She asked.

“Yeah. I can treat it when I get home. I think I have the right disinfectants back there.” Callie pointed out, rubbing some of the blood from her hands. Three parallel cuts bled on each of her hands. God knew how many cuts were on her knees. It would be a joy to fix them at home. “I’m Callie by the way.” She was introducing herself, weird. She wasn’t always too friendly. “Thanks for the help by the way. Too bad hours of research just went to waste.” She sighed, crumpling up the unreadable notes.</sub>

Rezuri quickly rummaged through her small black denim over-the-shoulder satchel. She herself was never a fan of the Capitol trends that looked ridiculous like Goach bags. If they came alive, they being so big could probably eat someone's head in one bite in all their gaudy glory.

As she was digging through, she had to push through her Capitol made electronics though. Well, she was a teenager.

"Sorry, don't have any disinfectant or anything. Well, um...I'm Rezuri." Rezuri was not a social person. It's not that she had a heart of gold under a hard exterior that needed to be smashed through, it was...she wasn't much of a talker.

"No problem. That's gotta suck."

She tried to flash a quick smile over at Callie, whose knee was starting to bleed a bit faster.

And then she couldn't think of much more to say. Her mind drawing a blank, she tried to think of something to talk about. Asking her to start a conversation was like asking the hard to do. Not impossible, but nowhere near easy.

"Um, what was in those papers?"

Wait, on the papers. not in. Of course I always mix up my words. Too late for me to take back, anyways.

"Sorry, don't have any disinfectant or anything. Well, um...I'm Rezuri." Her introduction was also a bit awkward. It seemed that both girls were not used to being around people. At least, that was what Callie observed. She would rather stay in the shadows, watching people then talking to them. Observations are her second nature. And hers at the moment were telling her that this Rezuri, such a strange name, was just as socially estranged as she was.

‘That’s good.’ Callie thought as she wadded up the rest of the ruined notes. She was tempted to just drop them on the ground, like she did when she was in her room. Now though, she was outside and that would be called littering. Instead, she stuffed the saddened paper in her bag. She would throw them out later.

"No problem. That's gotta suck." Was Rezuri’s response to Callie’s little mutter. Did people always respond to things not directed towards them? Man, she needed to get out more. Callie had no idea how to interact around someone else.

“Yeah.” Callie drew out the last letter, looking up towards the sky. Clouds were starting to gather, signaling to a fall storm. They were common at this time of year. Callie just hoped that she would make it home in time soon before it got too bad.

The girl, Rezuri asked what had been on the papers. Callie smiled at her hurried reply, the English wrong. She didn’t mind though. The girl knew of people that would’ve corrected the other student, just making themselves look like snobs. Callie herself was sometimes one of those people. Yet, she let this time slide. “They were notes I took from the book.” She drifted back over to the bench and picked up the book to show her fellow the cover. “I was studying the heart. I guess it’s alright, I can just take some new ones.” She sighed, tucking the book into her bag.

Callie was about to say more when a drop of rain landed on her head and slid down her neck. It was cold and it made the girl shiver. Suddenly, more drops started to come down, soaking the girl in seconds. Eyes wide, Callie looked over at Rezuri and pointed towards the exit of the park. “We need to get out of this!” She shouted over the drops, she readied herself to run towards some shelter, hoping that Rezuri did the same.
