The Road to the Uprising (Open)

Never, EVER, look back. Just keep running. There is nothing for you back there.

I follow my mind, zigzagging through the trees in the forest. My pack bounces against my back, filled with food, my diary, and my newest invention, which could come in handy if I see any animal. I don't want to have the same fate as my mother. I think back to the time where me and my father had invented this weapon. I had been busy drawing the blueprint while he made multiple runs to the hardware store. "Ceasara, how much metal will we need?" "Ceasara, how much rope will we need?" It got to be a little annoying at times, but I wouldn't dare talk back to him. I know he suffers just as much as I do. I wipe away the tears as I think of my father. Now that I am gone, he will have nothing. Everything he had ever loved will be gone, because of me. But I can't think of that. I am running away for the both of us. To avenge my mother and my sister. I had heard rumors of a group called the Uprising. They were there to bring down the Capitol, to prevent innocent teens like my sister from being murdered by their cruel Games. The Uprising was everything I live for.

After running for a long time and making sure no one was following me, I rest at a large tree. I stare into my pack longingly, wanting to gulp down the single water bottle I had brought with me. But that had to last me for who knows how long. Eventually, my thirst overcomes me. I start with a few sips. Then a few gulps. Soon, I had drank every last drop of the only water I had. I curse at myself. Why do I have to be such an idiot? I pull out my weapon. I reverse-engineer it in my brain, remembering every step I took to make it. It looks like a basic handgun, but with two triggers. The first is to set out a net, trapping the prey. The second trigger was used for sending electric currents through the net, bringing excruciating pain to it's victim. Suddenly, I hear something in a nearby bush. My gun is automatically pointed. "Wh-Who's there?" I choke out with my small voice. My finger is on the first trigger, ready to shoot if anything attacks me.

I jolt from my sleep to the loud sounds of an undoubtedly human body tearing through the forest. No animal could make that sound. I remain silent as I roll to my knees. I clutch my bow, an arrow fitted to the string already. I always sleep with an arrow in my bow. That's probably one of the most important reasons I'm still alive. I peer through the bushes as the person comes to a stop.

This person is crouching on the ground peering into his pack. (ooc I'll just call him a he for now.) After apparent debate he pulls out a water bottle and chugs it down to the last drop of life giving water. Due to the look on his face after he realizes this fact, it was his only bottle. I smile. He must be new to the forest. I am surprised when he pulls out a handgun. No wait, not a hand gun, something with two triggers.

Now I'm not an expert on suicide, but it looks to me like he's planning to use that gun on something other than prey.

I am immediately faced with a dillema. I am not a people person. That's why I ran. They are scum. but something within me tells me that if I watch this boy die I will be no better than the President Snow. The one that I'm always scheming up ways to kill.

In my indescision, I shift my weight clumsily and make a noise. The boy turns the gun to my general direction. Great. Just perfect. I sneer at myself. Stupid, clumsy... The boy chokes out a question, "Wh-who's there?"

How original.

I silently step back to a tree and scale it. If I'm going to answer, I want to be better concealed. When I'm well situated so I have the trunk of the tree between me and him, and can see him, I answer. "First of all, you should learn to conserve, and second, I'm not going to hurt you so put down that doohicky." My voice is strong and calm. I remain still, watching his face, waiting for either a blind shot in my direction, or a calm answer.

Aderyn Lacole was roused from a sleep more pleasant then most by the sound of voices. At first she fet deep annoyance from being awoken, sleep was hard to come by, and a peaceful sleep? That was even harder. Next, she felt curiosity; it wasn’t exactly common to run into people out here in the illegal unknown.

Being careful not to make any noise, she began in the direction she had heard the voice. It was a moment or two later that she heard a second voice, a lot closer then was originally heard.

“…I'm not going to hurt you so put down that doohickey”

She stopped where she was, not daring to move any closer for fear of being seen or heard, instead she sidestepped behind a tree and waited. Perhaps she should not have come to investigate, it is illegal to be out here, and she did not know who these people were. Either of them could very easily be from the Capitol, the place in which she placed so much hate, and being caught out here by someone from the Capitol was not something Aderyn wanted.

Curiosity always got the best of her, it had landed her in some sticky situations before but she knew how to fight, if anything came to that, she could defend herself.
Resting her hand on the handle of the knife jutting from her belt, she waited.

I am distracted from the boy by some girl, who is sneaking up behind my tree. What catches my eye, is the quick movement of her darting to hide behind the tree I'm hiding in. She thinks she isn't seen as she places her hand on her knife. I smile and turn back to the boy. Watching him. Waiting.

An answer finally comes to me, and I already know a few things about the mysterious person. First of all, it's a girl, like me. Then, well, there isn't really anything else that I can tell from the voice. "It's not a doohickey. Me and my father spent a lot of time working on this thing!" My voice quits quivering, and I have a serious look on my face. It's only been one day out here, and I'm already get used to it.

Another thing comes to my attention: I have no idea where District 13 is. Maybe I can weasle information out of her, if I lie. Suddenly, I hear another rustle in the bushes. Another girl. Great, looks like I'm going to be murdered by an all girl gang in the wilderness. But I do have something they don't...

"This weapon is extremely dangerous, so you might not want to get any closer. It can send out poisonous air that I am immune to." This was a complete lie. This weapon can't do any of that, just springs a net and electrocutes, nothing more. But they don't know that.

Standing safely behind her tree, hand still clutching her knife she listens to the girl rant about whatever it is she is holding. The defensiveness in her voice tells her that it is something she is very proud of, and having it knocked as a simple “doo-hickey” does not bode well. She would bet a piece of game in her game bag that the girl’s face probably mirrors the defensiveness in her voice.

Right off the bat Aderyn knew the girl was lying. She has to much pride in the little weapon, there’s no way she would give away what it does so easily. For all she knows, whoever it is she was initially calling to-the call that brought me to my current position-could be three times her size and want such a weapon for themselves.

Or maybe that’s exactly what it does, and she’s does realize the implications of what her words could mean for her. Or, of course, she’s trying to outsmart the person, have him or her show themselves only to be killed with said weapon. Aderyn crouches low without making a sound and peek around the tree to spot the first person, and immediately notices the metallic thing in her hand. Never before has she seen something so complex looking. Standing in her original place behind the tree and tries to spot the second person with no luck.

Now she had a dilemma on her hands. She could show herself to the girl, risk whatever the metallic weapon was and also expose herself to the second person. She could run, and risk being shot in the back. Or she could stay in this very spot and wait.
“Better get comfy, you may be here awhile” She thought to herself.

"This weapon is extremely dangerous, so you might not want to get any closer. It can send out poisonous air that I am immune to.” The girl is aiming weapon wildly in my direction and I can hear the frailty in her voice. She's hoping I'll buy her bluff. I'm not.

In fact, I laugh out loud, my clear voice ringing off of the nearby trees, making it still hard to find my exact location. "I told you, I'm not going to hurt you! To proove it, I'll reveal myself." I must be crazy, but I suspect that she won't hurt me if I reveal myself as peaceful. After all, she needs help, I can see the desperation in her posture and visage.

I swing down from the tree, glancing down at the girl and shooting her a meaningful glance. A glance that told her I was still keeping a watchful ear towards her. I turn to the boy and show my hands free. My bow is lung across my back, far away from my hands which are limp at my sides. "Water is important. Would you like some?" I extend a bottle of water and hope she doesn't fire.

What do I do? Obviously, my gang theory isn't true, so do I automatically trust her? She comes out of hiding, swinging elegantly from the branch and raising her arms to prove she has no weapon to hurt me. Slowly, she takes a bottle filled with water and offers it to me. I can feel saliva filling in my mouth in desperation. I slowly place my weapon on the ground, and take the water. It isn't the coolest, but I'm so thirsty I would drink water as hot as the sun if needed. I take a large gulp, automatically filling me with more energy. I wipe my mouth and hand it back to her. "Thank you." I say, trusting her a bit more. I pick up the gun and walk back to the tree, throwing it into my pack. I sit down at the base, offering the girl a place to sit.

I study her, realizing I know her from somewhere. "Were you originally from District 3? I think I've seen you around sometimes." She appears to be 3 or 4 years older than me. Her oval-shaped face, blue eyes, and brown braided hair makes my mind jump around. What's her name? "My name's Ceasara, by the way." I say to her. I fish around in my pack before pulling out the weapon I had once aimed at her. "It doesn't really do the things I said it could. It casts out a net to trap the prey, then this trigger sends out electric shocks that could kill if pressed enough times." I explain to her. This may be the beginning of a great friendship.

A sigh of relief threatens to escape my lips when I'm not shot and the kid takes a drink from my water bottle. Well, technically it was a gulp, or something larger than a gulp, and I smile. The feeling of thirst is one I've felt many times before. Ceasara asks my name and where I'm from. The smile disappears. Before I can answer, Ceasara has continued on to tell me about the weapon she'd bragged about. I'm still glad she didn't shoot me, being electricuted would hurt.

"Cool." I nod. It's much cooler than I let on, but that's just my personality, and I'm reminded of my previous life, before the forest due to Ceasara's question. I meet her eyes with my green ones and shift my long red hair to my back. Well, here goes nothing. "I'm Adelthryd Vera Andrea Axe. I'm from District nine. But I wander around the woods, so you might have caught a glimpse of me in the forest lining three." I explain briefly, a cold tone of voice creeping in. I don't like talking about where I'm from. It just brings back terrible memories, memories of my mother alone in the hunger games, watching her die because of President Snow's stupid games. Even memories I only know because my mother told me. My father, dying in the hunger games before I was old enough to understand.

I know better than anyone, the terrors of the hungergames from the perspective of the ones watching. I know the pain better. I know the grudging feeling that sticks with you throughout your life pushing you to crazy attempts at revenge.

Pushing you to plotting the assassination of all of the people who make the hunger games a reality. President Snow, Game makers, giddy capitol crack heads.

I blink, focusing again on Ceasara. I force a smile onto my lips. "Ceasara, where are you headed?"

Aderyn remains situated behind her tree, listen to the conversation the other two are having just on the other side of it. She was shocked, and impressed when she learned the real use of the metallic weapon the one girl has, and was definitely relieved when she put it away. If Aderyn was to make her presence known to the two females, she didn't want to do it while the girl had that in her hands.

She now knows the name of both the girls, which she stores in her head. You never know when something is going to be useful. Aderyn decided to wait until the girl, the one named Ceasara, answered the one named Adelthryd's question, then she would come out from behind her tree.
