[ idk if I could do this but ill try and if it isn't feel free to delete it]
After my shift at the shop, I told my brother we were leaving and never coming back. I packed as much food as my pockets and his pockets could hold. I then took the money I had been saving for over 3 years, and then we were out the door......for good.
When we arrived at the peacekeepers orphanage, where they keep all the children's-in District 8's- records, I told my younger brother to wait out side while I went in. He nodded and sat down in the small patch of grass the kids call a playground. Man that boy has become so attached to me, I thought. That I don't know what I'll do if I ever lost him. I'm not going to lose him like we lost Jim.
Tears stuck to my eyes as I rounded the corner to the Head Peacekeepers office. He was so nice to us children and promised us he would do anything for our survival. I brushed the tears away and knocked on the door three times then paused then knocked once. This was the secret knock the children of the orphanage and of course me and my brother, use when coming to his office. He automatically knew it was me because I had added a knock so he knew when I was coming.
He sat there tapping on his computer. I always wondered how those things worked I mean they're so complex. Anyhow I sat in the chair in front of him and he looked into my eye's.
"What could I do for you, Fellow?" He said, very curious about the seriousness on my face.
Uhhhh I hated when he called me that. He called me that ever since I introduced myself to him. I had told him my name Felio, but he misheard and called me fellow. I couldn't help but smile at the old memory, but it was quickly pushed aside due to what I came here for.
"Mel," I said. Mel was the nickname I gave him because his real name was to long and too weird like my name. His name is Mellard. Others, like the adults call him foul names. way out of his name. However they don't ever seem to bother him. Thats why I look up to him. "Mel," I repeated. " I came here to ask a favor."
"Anything, you know the promise I made you. I would anything you asked." He said getting serious.
I fiddled my thumbs and stared blanklessly at them. "Well I was wandering if you could........No you wouldn't. What was I thinking. I'm sorry for waisting your time." I hopped of the seat and headed for the door. Mel hurried and blocked the door.
"No, Max. Tell me what on your mind. " he said. Another nickname. But instead of him giving me the name the town gave me it for always selling the max.
"Well since you won't let me leave I'll tell you." I whispered. "I want to leave District 8, and I need your help. I need you to erase me and my brother's name off the database for good."
He then relaxed his shoulders and put his hands on my shoulder. "Let's talk about this over a cup of tea." He then walked over to his desk and pushed a button. A women Peacekeeper walked in wearing the usual outfit they wore. She had a gun holster with a fully loaded gun in it. She was also holding a tray. On it held two cups of tea. And thats when my brother, Mark came into the office.
