Bliss stared at the fence right in front. It was electrified 24/7. Anyone who touches it would immediately be roasted. It was, she admitted, a good way to keep unwanted animals out... and citizens from running away. How lucky District 9 is to be free to hunt. Carefully, timidly, cautiously, she made her way towards the fence. The low hum told her the fence was alive. Biting her lip, she pointed the tip of her hand-made bow towards the fence.
zzZZZZZZZZaap!
"Agh!" she shrieked, dropping the bow and stepping backwards as quick as she could.
Why was she doing this in the first place? Well, she decided she didn't want to make money working at the orchard anymore -- but she didn't quit, just in case this would fail. She wanted to hunt and she had been practicing with her bow and arrows.
"It's impossible," she muttered, picking up her weapon.
'Take a chance, don't be chicken,' she thought. A chuckle escaped her lips. She knew little about chickens, since those animals were extinct, but she knew why people in the old days use the animal as a taunt.
She looked around her. She was hidden from unwated eyes by the tall trees that surrounded her. Her eyebrows furrowed, thinking. Those trees grew tall past the fence. If only...
'Hmmm....'
She could just climb a tree and jump over the fence. After all, the fence wasn't that high. It was just a few metres higher than the tallest person in District 11.
With a sigh, she heaved herself up a branch. Working at the orchard a lot and being forced to climb trees made this easy for her. In a matter of seconds she was already halfway to the top. She stopped and carefully walked to the thick branch that hung dully over the fence.
'Carefully, now...' she cautioned herself.
With every step she took, the branch lowered itself. Another step and she knew the branch would touch the fence and she'd be zapped out of the tree. The only way was to jump -- but she wasn't even past the fence yet.
"Jump, Bliss!" she hissed to herself and after a whole lot of effort, she forced her body up. The tip of her boot slid across the top of the fence just before she fell, creating the frighteningly loud zap.
Thud!
"I'm in. Oh my god. I'm in!"
