Age: Sixteen
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 12
Appearance:
Colvin is from the wealthier, merchant part of town, having very beautiful bright blue eyes and very bright, very long, upright, curly golden hair he keeps cut short for the most part. He's never wanted for food really, uncommon in both his district and the lower part of Panem even. He is slim and tall, being ironically a guy who never eats a lot even when there is enough food for him to get by on. His skin is extremely pale, seeming to not possess a single red tone in it. And his hygiene is even above the relative standards of his district, having straight, bright white teeth and generally smelling "nice," in a district in which is the best hoped for is not smelling at all.Personality:
Colvin wears black framed glasses (even those are a commodity which mark him as well off the his district,) and even though he has always had enough to eat, his body is still very skinny and gaunt. It's likely this will change as he grows older, but that is simply the way his frame has always been. He's a good looking guy, generally looking healthy and well groomed despite even his family's modest background. His body is very lean despite him being very light, being about 5'10 yet weighing only 125 lbs. His BMI is 17.9, which makes him underweight for his age and height.
Many people have it hard in Panem, but Colvin never saw him himself as one of those people. He is a smart and optimistic person with a loving family, and just those three things can take a person a long way in life. The boy lives in a sweet shop when many people in his district are simply dying of starvation, so what is there to be sad about really? He knows Panem isn't a great place, and that life is unfair, but Colvin is able to move past that and not let it get him down. In fact, it is almost annoyingly difficult to get Colvin to look at anything other than the bright side of things.History:
Colvin was born in the to a merchant man and a women from the Seam, but despite this, Colvin still takes primarily after his father. In a world where abuse and misery are rampant, Colvin lived a relatively normal and healthy life with his family, being raised by two loving parents and all the while being an older brother to his three younger sisters. While he is not a very emotional person, he still does his best to be a loving older brother, even if it is a job that oftentimes deeply annoys him. His natural intelligence and demeanor made him excel at school, and he very much enjoys his life, living a sweet shop that holds many pleasant memories for him. Yes, in a district rife with poverty and misery, Colvin is an anomaly.
Even if he isn't the most social guy, he still seems to have a dry, sarcastic sense of humor in even the grimmest situations (ESPECIALLY then,) and in his district, melancholy certainly isn't hard to find. He smiles at strangers when his eyes meet theirs, but even then, it is hard for life not to get him at least a little bit down, as fortunate as he has it in Panem's most "unfortunate" district. Colvin seems to derive a sense of pleasure and control from planning out his day and keeping to a loose schedule, even if he is not decidedly anal about it. What he IS anal about is the cleanliness of his home and his person, which is why neither is often neglected. As far as hobbies go, other than a natural affinity for the piano which he enjoys refining, Colvin tends to keep his mind on the work in his family's shop for the most part.
Colvin's history is decidedly pleasant, especially by district standards. His family is loving an supportive, and Colvin himself rarely has anything to complain about. He sees people drop dead from starvation on a frequent basis, so somehow, the work he has to do in his day to day life just doesn't seem too important. Why should it? Colvin's life isn't bad, at least as far as he sees it, and at any rate, it could be much, much worse. His parents care about him but don't smother him, his sisters look up to him to the point of begrudgingly endearing annoyance, and Colvin himself is not a guy without his own redeemable qualities.Codeword: Odair
Colvin doesn't even worry about the games as much as the rest of the district does. His name isn't in the reaping bowl nearly as much as others' are, nor are his sisters, and even in a district as small as twelve, the odds are still in his favor. Of course, that has never stopped Colvin's mind from at least musing about the subject. As much as he hated the games for their controlling nature and use of children's deaths to make a selfish political point, Colvin is not above admitting (at least internally,) that the games somewhat fascinate him. Who lives, who dies, and why? It's all just so very compelling to him, especially since in the districts, ESPECIALLY District Twelve, watching the games were just about the only thing one has to do in any downtime they might be able to scrounge up.
His morbid interest aside, Colvin still doesn't agree with the ends they are used for. Seeing the names of twenty three dead tributes, kids who are more or less his age, his SISTERS' age, then watching the sole survivor more often then not slowly kill themselves through years of substance abuse and self-acrimony, perturbs him just the slightest bit. Still, being the optimist he is, he doesn't like to dwell on such things, and much prefers to attend to his tedious duties, usually while singing a jovial tune in chorus with his younger siblings, who often times have their own chores to attend to. Life is good to Colvin, most of the time anyway, and he simply will not let the weight of the unfair world get him down for too long, even if it does put him in a sour mood. All he can do is work, and hope that one day, maybe even tomorrow, the world will be just a tad bit brighter.
