Age: 17
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 4
Appearance:
Gortan stands exactly 6'1" Tall, weighing roughly 178lbs with black hair in a buzzcut style, dark brown eyes and Caucasian-tanned skin due to many hours spent in the sun. His jaw is thick, and his cheekbones are shaped in a peak below his eyes, so dimples form on his cheeks whenever he smiles. He is considered handsome, but not a total 'dream'.Personality:
He is muscular, well-built and his shoulders are broad. His biceps are decently toned and muscly, being nicely complimented by his forearms which show his muscles in emphasis down to his hard-working hands which are averagely large in size, his knuckles are shaped like 'stones' and are structured solidly. His chest is bumped outward a small bit, having pecks which are stocky but in a fit manner of speaking. His abdominal region is at a count of '6-pack', solid to the flex and stern to the touch.
His thighs are not wide, but consist of more fat than any other part in his body, but only enough to slow him down by a tick. His calves are elegant though, having a nice curving arch to the way his muscles naturally built, thus giving him great stance and remarkable leg-power. His bone structure is also to be noted as unlinked and flexible, considering the fact he stretches a good amount each time before swimming.
Gortan is kind, and considerate. But he is also Bi-polar, therefore he is rather moody at times. He could be a trustworthy ally at times, but in an instant could snap at even the smallest of discomfort. He is not very flaunting of himself, and he doesn't prey on the attention of others. But his physical appearance tends to be a factor to his profile; on that note he is quite an actor. He has a talent for speaking his mind but putting it in a way that could be seen as being playful. He is not a very affectionate person. He has a problem with the term 'love' because of how loosely it can be used in such an age as manipulation.History:
He loves to swim, if it was up to him he would have fins and gills, just spending every waking moment in water. But his training for 'The Games' gives him the drive to spend a precise and sufficient amount of time training himself on-land. Because in the unlikely event that the Arena would be an entire ocean body, he wouldn't want to be a real Fish Out Of Water.
Gortan also loves fruits, though they are so scarce when surrounded by seafood almost always. And what little he knows of certain fruits, he uses for when he can afford them to pick the best ones from the batch. But it is rare as explained for him to have such a luxury. He is also very mature and well-versed, thinking out any form of words or actions thoroughly but quickly so he doesn't seem hesitant and/or impatient. This leads him to also train his mind on being at least a few steps ahead of his competitors. Strangely enough what he considers the most annoying thing in the world, is an overly excessive amount of emotion over even the smallest of subjects.
A flaw of Gortan's that is truly only noticeable by his stance, is his ADHD(Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder) which is under-control for the most part but he still can get distracted easily if too much is around to occupy his mind. So if he seems to be shifting the way he stands, or can't seem to keep his hands still, he is more than likely lacking focus for the time-being.
Gortan was born and raised in District 4, as are mostly all citizens of Panem to their own respective District(s). He never knew his father long enough to actually get to know him, because before Gortan could speak his father was granted access into the Capitol to manage all comings and goings of shipment between there and District 4, where he had the same job only instead he was confined to the District and nowhere else. The only catch to accepting citizenship into The Capitol, is he could bring no one, not even family, with him.Codeword: <img src="http://i41.tinypic.com/16h2ibt.png">
But this never haunts Gortan, due to how young he was and the emotional detachment at such an age. But his mother stayed with him no matter what, even when ill she still went out of her way to take care of Gortan. But her dedication was eventually surpassed by her illnesses, which only grew worse by the days because she refused to put money towards it, because it all went for as stable of a childhood as possible for her only son.
Erikka Cande, his mother, died when he was only 7-years-old. Forcing him into a group home to live with other foster children between the ages of 6 to 18. But it was there that he met a 16-year-old boy named Marius. He was neglected by most of the people at school, and so he gave up on it and just spent all day in the group home by himself. Gortan eventually befriended Marius and found out the reason for his lonesome days.
Marius had a learning disability, which made him unable to comprehend what he was reading, and so he had to be taught specially one-on-one by someone who had the capabilities of explaining what was written. And so Gortan did his best to do so for Marius, sitting down with him and reading to him what the school was teaching at that time, but Gortan could only teach what was given, and on some days there was nothing new from the school. Even though most of it was outdated in the first place.
But a day came when all of the older children had left, but later on all had returned except for one, Marius. And no matter who he asked, Gortan was never told of where Marius went. But he sometimes overheard people speaking of 'Poor Marius' and how 'He never stood a chance'. But the lack of an answer, and the hope of it not involving The Hunger Games, Gortan left the subject alone for another 5 years, when he had turned 12. So he was now expected at The Reaping. So just a day beforehand, he was pulled off to the side by the head administrator to the group home he lived in, and then he was told the truth;
Gortan was told about The 53rd Hunger Games Reaping for District 4, and that Marius was reaped. And that he didn't make it passed the 2nd Day. He was also told about training for The Games, and how it was technically illegal with the exception of Districts 1, 2 and 4. So the next day, at The Reaping, he was spared. And he made it through to another year.
But the day after that, Gortan begun training, asking questions about how he could better-himself to those who worked and seemed strong. Most ignored him, but the few that gave him advice he would take into count, and practice what he knew. For the first year, he just worked out by jogging, hurdling and sit-ups to get stronger and stay fit. And so he made it through another Reaping.
Now being 13-Years-old, so he was entitled to a free lesson in swimming twice a week on his own time. They also taught him how to fish, and it paid off in time. He still resumed his normal workouts, eating the smaller portions of fattening foods, and learning of healthier foods to eat such as fruits. But in such a District, fruits were some of the rarest things to come by. So he would always act quickly at any chance to taste a fruit, but for the next year or so, he had no luck. But he did learn how to swim, and quite skillfully with each session.
He made it passed another Reaping, safely back to his daily training. But now he was 14-years-old, and he begun Weapons Training and more. Now also training his survival skills of what he had, learning how to start campfires, fish with more skill, and rationally consume his tidings to make his food last.
He had gotten his hands on a piece of thick driftwood, and a few dull spears originally used for Fishing but had since became useless. And on the same day he headed into the Supplies Market with what little money he did have, in hopes of finding other supplies to use for training. He only got a discount on some old fishing nets which he could use to fashion-together knots and so forth, but then he found it;
Gortan had actually found an apple, looking just as people described so long ago to him. The red skin, the brown stem, and the only thing he couldn't confirm unless it was rightfully in his possession, was the faint yellow and juicy insides. And the only advice he received on them was to not eat them after they can fit in his grip with his index finger touching his thumb. So he bought it from the shopkeeper, tucking the spears and wood into his nets and carrying them over his shoulder, with his apple in his other hand.
And before starting his training on that day, he had eaten the apple. It was just as delicious as he had imagined, and a part of him wished for so much more. But he knew he had to focus on his training. So for the next few days while he trained, he occasionally found himself daydreaming about another apple. The thought had to be dismissed though. And the only common fruit he had access to often was Coconuts. But he didn't favor their taste to well.
Gortan carved the block of wood to be shaped like a swors, to make ot easier to wield, and he practiced every day. Overtime, he had started to become skilled in swordsmanship and could toss a spear up to 10 yards. Again time seemed to fly, and he was at another Reaping. But as the 3 times before, he made it through without hearing his name being called up to the regular yet ominousing stage.
Being 15-years-old now, he continued his training and started to practice weight-lifting with the different sizes of cargo down by the docks. As well he now practiced his swimming alone, and overtime could swim just as fast as he could run, which was exceptionally quick. And by the time he had trained enough to lift at least 50lbs of Cargo at a time, it was time for another Reaping. And is seemed to become a routine, but now his name was in 4 times, so he had to tread lightly and expect what he hadn't expected for the last few years. Suspense built up, but he was safe for another Reaping. And with so much time spent training, he had hardly any friends, therefore no attachments or losses by this point.
Gortan spent so much more time increasing and working on the abilities he already had at this point, rather than gaining more to work with. So he would continue every week to lift 10lbs more of cargo, and before long he could lift nearly 80lbs of cargo boxes and added weight in his arms alone.
He also focused on swimming more, practicing holding his breath by going deep underwater and pushing his bodily weight down to refrain from submerging. His lung capacity overtime increased to allow him to be underwater for at least 45 seconds without taking serious risks of internal damage. Too much further and he could develop a breathing problem which he came close to often, but his amount of time on land training, he remained balanced.
His time was consumed by his training, so his only dealings to the public was with the shopkeepers and the head of his grouphome. Which for the time-being he didn't even take into consideration. But he still ate well amounts of food to stay healthy, and his amount of unhealthy consumption was dropped severely after he learned to keep away from snacks and other fattening foods.
Gortan still resided in the group home, still training as often as he can and by now he was 16-years-old, and he felt ready. It was soon to be the 60th Hunger Games, and he had also learnt about volunteering, so now he knew that he could do it himself to be a Tribute. His efforts were doubled, and so were his skills. His body became worth more muscle than anything else, and he was even better with a sword, could lunge a spear almost 30 yards, and had learnt to ration-out his food. Gortan was honestly fully prepared for The Hunger Games, but by the time of The Reaping, he didn't volunteer. He thought too much about it, and hesitated so it was too late. But he still had 2 years left of eligibility, which meant more time to train.
All of Gortan's training was carried out as much as the previous year, and even more in the sense of how long he trained. But before long he realized he had spent so much time training, that he was so detached from the rest of the District's residents, he had no one to even remember him if he died. So then two weeks from the Annual Reaping, he would only train every two days instead of each day, and he also rested often, spending a decent amount of time to at least get to know the people of his District, hopefully make enough of an impression to be remembered, and at least know that his devotion to The Hunger Games and his eagerness to compete, did not go unnoticed.
