Age: 14
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 5
Appearance:
Luciana is very thin. Her arms are a little skinnier than normal, and she has long, slender legs for her size that end in small feet. Her height is on the shorter side, around 5'1". Her hands have ten oval shaped nails that are usually jagged at the end due to years of biting. Her skin isn't very well tanned, although she isn't extremely pale. Her shoulders are wide, and she always slumps them forward and downward, so that her arms hand low. Her neck is thin, but not very tall. It seems almost too small to hold up her head.
Luciana's chin is small and rounded. Her lips are a paler shade, and thin. Her nose is dotted with many freckles, and so are her cheekbones. Above her cheekbones are two wide brown eyes with dark eyelashes, making her almost always look shy or afraid. Her eyebrows are thin and higher on her forehead.
Her hair, however, seems to almost make up for her big, shy eyes. It's dark, silky, and long, falling in waves down her back beautifully. Her hair screams confidence even when the rest of her doesn't.
Personality:
Luciana is very shy. Teasing from her past makes her insecure, and she always ducks her head down, afraid of someone seeing her face. She's very sensitive, but at the same time, if there's a fight at school, it's usually Luciana who quietly says a solution before quickly disappearing again, afraid of the results. No one really knows why Luciana is so afraid of what other people think of her; in fact, with her beautiful hair and pretty eyes, she should be extremely confident. But little Luciana is always afraid to speak her mind to other people. She's very quiet, only talking when absolutely nessesary.
There's only one time that Luciana is confident, and that's when she's in the more wooded area of the District. There, she climbs trees and talks to the birds. And she actually talks, telling them everything that she's afraid to tell other people. She talks, and smiles, and sometimes, she actually laughs.
History:
When Luciana was a little girl, she wasn't very pretty. She has plump limbs and hands and feet that were too big for her body. Her parents lived very poor lives, which meant they couldn't afford great outfits. Her clothes were too tight and worn. As a result, she was often the target for teasing. People laughed at her ideas, her clothes, and her appearences. Often when she got home she would be crying.
Then she hit a growth spirt. And although she was getting taller, she didn't get any plumper, so when she was done, she was thinner than a good many of the girls who had teased her. However, they still made fun of her, and it went on until finally, Luciana switched schools.
At her new school, no one ever made fun of her. They even tried to talk to her. But when they did, Luciana would always draw back, confused and uncertain. Finally, people just stopped trying and left her alone. And even this made Luciana afraid, afraid that they were talking behind her back. She was only twelve, but the stress on her shoulders was like that of an adult's.
And it just got worse. Just before Luciana turned thriteen, her mother died in an accident. Her father turned out to be a completely different man, a man who hit Luciana when she did bad things, and a man who drank a lot. Luciana became afraid of him. He accused her of being a brat and a pain. He told her if she didn't prove herself useful, he'd kick her out, even though he could barely hold up his job of training dogs.
And so, terrified, Luciana went into the woods and came back with a bird. Her father was furious, until Luciana whistled, and the bird swooped down and caught a mouse. Luciana had to do much to get the bird to hand it over, but when it did, her father grinned. The next day, people were paying Luciana to train birds they had just purchased to hunt. If Luciana ever complained, she'd be hit. Eventually, though, her father got out of her way, and Luciana began to charge her own fees. Whatever the birds caught during training was hers, along with a bit of money to go with it. And Luciana kept herself and her father well fed with fresh meat and money to buy other essentials.
No one could beleive that such a little, shy girl could have such a talent. No one could beleive that she could be a falconer. But when they got their birds back, they had a strong hunting bird, and no one knew how she did it. And through all the stress, Luciana remained the small, shy girl she was in the begginning of it all.
