...Without saying anything...
...I'm right by your side, at anytime...
...Gently tell me your sad thoughts...

[...Appearance...]
I suppose the very first thing that you would notice about my
appearance is my height. I am very tall at 6ft 3 which can be
intimidating at first even if I don't want it to be. Sadly it seems to
give people the wrong impression. Since the citizens of District 2
usually always have enough to eat, my weight is pretty average
for my height. I have a fairly muscular physique due to the amount
of training I have done in case of being reaped for the Hunger
Games. This has also helped me to become quite strong physically
which is a good advantage to me. My skin is slightly pale but not
enough that it becomes easily noticed. The skin itself is smooth
enough but nothing really special if I were to tell the truth. I have
my fair share of old bruises on my body since training for the
games is definitely no easy task. This is usually hidden by my
clothes, however, so not many people see them.
I don't really know how best to properly describe my hair. I have
always said the colour was black but in some lights it can appear
as a dark brown instead. It is short and sticks up slightly in a way.
To be completely honest I never really put that much effort into
my hair. A quick fix in the morning and it is all ready to go. Simple.
My eyes are a shade of light blue with some darker blues thrown
in around the place. Not really much more that I can say about
eyes. My eyebrows are near enough the same colour as my hair.
They are a little thick for my liking but that is just the way things
worked out so who am I to complain. The rest of my face isn't
really much to talk about. Everything is pretty well positioned and
proportioned according to the rest of my body.
Well, moving on to the next thing. I have covered everything else
so I guess that just leaves clothes and stuff. My choices of outfit
are usually quite simple compared to the tastes of some other
people I have met around the district. One thing for sure is that I
definitely prefer darker colours to lighter ones. My main colours
are black, grey, red and dark blue. My trousers are usually jeans
in either black or dark blue. I do wear smart trousers some times
but it isn't really that often that I do. Jeans are just more comfy
for day to day life. I like to wear smarter shirts in the winter, if I
can I will wear a waistcoat too. In the summer though, I can be
seen in vest tops to cope with the near unbearable heat that
surrounds District 2. So really you could say it depends on the
weather but mainly outfits that feel comfortable but still have a
decent amount of style to them. That is what I usually choose.

[...Personality...]
It is easy to tell what the biggest part of my personality is. My
taciturn and stoic demeanor. I guess that would come under
strong and silent. I just don't see the point in saying a lot of
things that don't need to be said and prefer to focus more on the
things that do. They are more important after all. No point
whatsoever in stating the obvious like some of the others I know
all too well. I know it can be slightly scary to some people, even if
I live in a career district, but that is just who I am. I might not
smile all that often but when I do it can show the person that I
am really happy. The real exception to this is when I get really
tired. Most people get grumpier and less sociable as they get
tired, much like Gaston does most of the time, but the opposite it
true to me. A tired me is actually a more chatty, social character
than usual and shows more expression. It is good in a way.
Another big thing about my personality would be my protective
instincts. When I become a good friend to somebody I am both
loyal to them and protective of them. The biggest example of this
is my cousin Gaston. Having been the best people had seen in
training, I know that he can easily fend for himself but I still find
myself wanting to shield him from the horrors of the world. He
may be the same age as me but his innocent personality speaks
for itself. Another person I try to protect is the only girl in our club,
Ebony. I would never admit it but I can imagine how she feels
suddenly being dragged into this madness, especially with the
rest of us being men. Lets just say some of them seem too carried
away for their own good. For my true friends I will always be
there to listen and protect them from any harm that could come. I
know it can sometimes mount to being overprotective but you can
never be too careful I guess, especially when it comes to friends.
There are very few people that actually know this but I have quite
a soft spot for animals. What I would really want for my birthday
one year is a pet of my own to keep and care for. I think what
attracts me to them is the selfless love they so easily give to their
owner. It is a dedication that few humans are really able to
achieve. After all, everyone does some things purely for their own
good. I would love to take care of a pet and make sure such a
loving creature had a happy home and an owner who would
never let them down. It is what they deserve for such selfless
love. I suppose it is a strange thing to hear from someone who
can appear as cold and quite scary at first but as the saying goes,
never judge a book by it's cover. Maybe Gaston will surprise me
one birthday since he knows about that part of me.

[...History...]
The day that I, Thomas Mercer was born into the
world, my parents knew exactly what they wanted for me. The
Mercer family was well known for wanting the children of the
family to be trained as career tributes. Nearly all of them had
wanted to be careers as children but failed so wanted their own
offspring to make up for this. My parents did allow me a little bit
of a childhood first, however. They wanted to be able to have fun
and joyful memories with the son they had created before all that
was put into play. The two wanted him to be able to hear about
his great childhood days and the happiness surrounding them.
The first years of my life were a happy time while I ran around
the house getting into all kinds of mischief on my adventures. I
already wasn't much of a talker but his actions always spoke for
me clearly enough. I had at least had some time where I was
just like any other little child would have been at that age.
Once they thought I was old enough to start training, however,
the time of fun abruptly came to an end. Now I was expected to
show no mercy towards others and put all my effort into
becoming as strong as possible. To try and make my parents
proud of me, that was exactly what I did. My weapon of choice
was my bare hands. Over the years I managed to get a
considerable amount of skill which pleased my parents however
there was one family member who could easily beat me in terms
of skill. My lovely, slightly younger cousin Gaston. We both trained
together whenever it was at all possible and through our mutual
determination to get stronger we had managed to form a bond.
As time went by I easily became increasingly protective of the
small boy and dedicated myself to making Gaston happy. There
was just something there that told me that the young boy wanted
to break free of his miserable life training for the games, a thing
that was starting to become more appealing to me as well.
I have never forgot the first reaping where I was eligible to be
sent off to the Capitol. The younger eligible children of District 2
didn't have as much to worry about as children their age in many
of the lower districts. If one of their names was called out more
often than not a bloodthirsty career would volunteer in their
place. Nevertheless, I was now prepared for what I might have to
do. Even if my cousin was probably the closest thing I knew to a
human weapon, I wouldn't let him be sent into the games. The
night before the reaping I had promised myself that if Gaston's
name was ever pulled out of the glass orb then I would volunteer
in his place. I could fight pretty well so there would be a good
chance that I could make it back home to the people I loved.
Luckily, unfamiliar names were called and we were both safe.
Things remained the same for me as each day passed by. The
days turned to weeks and the weeks to years. There was little to
no change in my routine. It was going to school, training and
spending time with family. That was until the time when the host
club was being formed and both me and Gaston were asked to
join. I could tell that my cousin was seriously debating whether or
not to join so I decided to accept the other and check the place
out. Quite quickly I found my place among the unique group of
people and before long both me and Gaston were both members
of the club. My cousin quit his training and started to enjoy the
childhood that he had never been allowed. It made me glad to
watch him look happier than I had ever seen him before. Of
course when he went home to his parents he had to act tough
and pretend he was still in training to kill others. Only I knew the
truth. As for me I have kept up some of my training just in case
the unthinkable happens but for now I hope to remain here and
enjoy many adventures and fun times with the host club.
