Age: 16
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 4
Appearance:
It's quite usual for a child to come off as a spitting image of one of their parents, and Moss is the perfect example of this. The only thing that sets himself apart from his father is their obvious age difference. He has the same, awkward pale skin, naturally messy, dark brown hair, and gray-blue eyes, a change from District 4's stereotypical sea-green. He's got a tall, slender facial structure and a prominent jawline. Even though most people wouldn't guess it, he loves to smile. However, this is rarely seen as he is often lost in deep thought. He finds himself subconsciously raising a single eyebrow at least twice a day, and when he's pondering anything at all, his eyes take on a narrowed shape.Personality:
Moss is about 6 feet tall and roughly 164 pounds. He has a slim, athletic build and well-toned limbs from practically growing up in the ocean. His hands are strong and nimble from years of hauling in large nets full of fish and tying intricate knots. His long legs prove to be excellent for sprinting, though he can't run very far without tiring out. He is obscenely quick and can dodge almost anything, but he is also terribly clumsy at times. These two traits balance each other out. Moss is fully aware that he is horrible in terms of stealth, but his physical strength, speed, and attractive appearance have been enough to get him through life.
In a nutshell, Moss is a highly likable person. He has a large quantity of boyish charm that makes people want to be around him. He is very passionate about everything he does and believes that if you're not going to commit to something 100%, you shouldn't commit at all. This makes him extremely determined and a loyal, excellent friend. He loves to talk and could hold a conversation for hours, but he also gets easily sidetracked and lost in his thoughts. Whenever he is thinking too much about anything, he doesn't speak much at all.History:
Moss loves attention, but not in a way that makes him seem conceited. He greatly appreciates when someone goes out of their way to talk with him or cheer him up. He would never go trying to put himself in the spotlight, but he won't deny that he loves it when people notice him. He is highly intelligent and quick-thinking, but also a bit sarcastic. He never intends to be mean to anyone, but he is lacking a verbal filter. He is brutally honest and gives the best advice, but also the worst, unintentional insults. He'll let you know when you look stupid or when you're being obnoxious. Later, though, he'll feel extremely bad about it and try to make it up to you.
This charismatic, friendly boy, however, was lost when his father recently died. He went through a long phase that some would say is still lingering around. He barely spoke to anyone and would be lucky if he could get three words out a day. Lately, he's been finding his voice again through anger and has been lashing out at people who have done nothing wrong. Moss never had a bad temper, but since his father's passing, he's started to develop one. He's been isolating himself frequently and has grown to hate most people. Deep down, however, he knows that he desperately wants to return to his old self, though somehow that seems wrong now that his dad is gone.
Moss has always been an only child, and though he often longed for a little brother or sister, he accepted the fact that his parents could barely support him. Financially, they were okay. Not rich, but definitely not poor. They had enough money to get by and pay for a small, slightly run-down house. All of the Dorians were painfully generous, however, and often found themselves short on funds because they've been giving too many handouts to the less fortunate. Despite this, Moss had a great childhood. His mother was often working as maintenance woman who fixed up boats, so he bonded more with his father, who was simply a fisherman. The two grew inseparable as Mr. Dorian took Moss out fishing and boating and diving whenever he could. Moss loved his father more than anything in the world.Codeword: odair
Moss led a somewhat boring life until he was fifteen and his father invited him to go out on the ocean with a group of his fellow fishermen. While at sea, the boat encountered some not-so-friendly winds and Moss's dad was knocked overboard. At first, the event was almost comical, as everyone knew he'd be able to simply swim back up to the boat and forget about the whole thing, but after a few extended moments, they realized he must have hit his head on something on his way down. Moss was the first to dive into the ocean to search for his father, followed by two older men. Moss nearly drowned himself looking for his dad, but he was eventually forced back aboard the ship, screaming the whole way, as the other men told him that his dad was gone.
Moss's mother took the news even worse than he did. She found it incredibly difficult to continue working and keep herself and Moss alive, but she fought on. Occasionally, she would have outbursts of insanity around Moss. He looked just like his father, and this caused her to lose her mind sometimes. She would blame her son for killing her husband and make him wonder if the whole thing was his fault after all. What if he had refused to go on the trip? Would his dad have stayed home? Would he still be alive? Moss has basically ruined his life asking himself these questions, and they don't show sings of stopping anytime soon.
