ALIVIA
EIGHTEEN&DISTRICT NINE
Alivia has a narrow, heart-shaped face with high, rounded cheekbones and a pointed chin. Her round, cloudy eyes are a silvery-blur. She has a round, comically large nose, hooked over her thin, pale lips. Her fine hair is as dark as a moonless night, pulling out in some areas. She has small bald spots along her hairline, and thin eyebrows. Her legs are slender and lanky, and she takes long strides, her frail shoulders back and face held forward. Her forehead is wide, covered by her thin, stringy bangs. In the rare moments when she smiles, there are dimples indented in her cheeks, and two crooked rows of sparkling white teeth. Her skin is fair, covered in hundreds of freckles. She has a sturdy square jawline, and small, rounded ears. Her limbs can bend in disproportionate ways; her back would arch upwards, her head would go between her legs, and her shoulders would stretch backward. She stands at five foot seven, and weighs 109 pounds. She tends to wear bright colors and a wooden bracelet on her right wrist.
The first thing one would notice about Alivia's voice would be her high, adenoidal squeaking. She tends to slur her words together, and talk in a hurry. She has a sharp, distinctive laugh that sounds somewhat similar to a bird.
A frozen heart would be the appropriate way to describe Alivia. As hyperactive and flashy as she may appear, she's filled with hatred and misery. She has a very negative view on the world, and a colorful vocabulary. She tends to blurt out at inappropriate times, and her mind isn't exactly what you'd call "clean". She dreams of being a con artist, and often goes by the pseudonym "Alyssum Silvrim". Liv tends to be rather dishonest and often lets go of what she believes in to try to keep up an act. She is desperately trying to keep her sexuality under wraps; though the world may be welcoming to lesbians, some of her neighbors in District Nine aren't as open, and her family especially wasn't.
Her family was the main reason she abandoned everything she knew and underwent a series of changes. Each one of them sank their teeth in, ripping slowly and gnawing on her last nerves. They all had a part in driving her away.
Effie Sharpe.
Liv's mother.
It's all fake smiles and forced laughter for Alivia and her mother. They bickered constantly, and Effie was displeased with Liv when she announced she was quitting school. It was like a rift had formed between them the moment they laid eyes on each other, for all they ever did was peck at each other. Effie nagged on Liv's every flaw, and Liv whined nonstop about how unfair her mother was, and how selfish.
Gregor Sharpe.
Her father.
Everything that Gregor said or did seemed like a bad story, where all the characters were too perfect or too perfectly boring. His mind lingered in the past, and he droned on about things that Liv could care less about. He tried to force all of his knowledge onto his daughter, giving her twice the amount of homework she got at school. Of course she didn't do any of it, and she didn't feel the need to know about folktales and history. Liv sometimes feels that he is trying to live out all his dreams through her, pushing her to join all the extracurricular activities she could. She is rather indifferent towards her father.
Brylie and Catherine Sharpe.
Those newborn brats.
The horrid little sisters.
Brylie and Catie were born when Liv was twelve, and she despised them immediately. They caused disturbances in the house, hogged all the attention, and constantly ruined her day. They whined and they cried and they destroyed. Liv was ecstatic to leave them behind when she moved out.
Dice Sharpe.
Liv's brother.
Dice was the only one Alivia could really connect to. They had similar dreams and interests. They were both driven mad by their families, and searched for a way out. After a while, Liv noticed that Dice was becoming especially clingy. He was obsessed with her, and obsessed with becoming her. Alivia was initially flattered, but after a while it became creepy. With the line being crossed, Alivia left home, cursing up a storm and screaming bitter words at her family. It was only when she got a block away from home that she realized she had nowhere to go.
After wandering aimlessly for days and sleeping under the stars, Alivia met Persia Jay, someone like herself that had no place in the world. Though they developed a negative relationship with each other, they agreed to move in together. As time went on, Liv and Persia argued more and more, but only because both of them were naturally bitchy. Alivia was beginning to learn more about Persia; about her family, about her past, about her dreams. After a while, it became increasingly hard to deny; she was falling in love with Persia. No matter how hard she tried to fight her feelings, she only fell more in love with her. It was hard to say that she was made of ice when she was weakened by such a frivolous emotion. Persia would never feel the same.
Though, when Persia's cousin entered the Games, Liv could see her crossing her fingers under her legs. Persia still had hope; a spark of light glimmering in that void. She wasn't as cold as Liv had once thought. She began to have faith that Persia would love her back some day.
It was amazing how cruel the world could be, yet it could push two people together and ignite sparks in the same household.
