Parties. Parties had to be the stupidest thing ever invented. There was no real purpose to parading around in fancy clothes, clinking glasses of wine and champagne, and showing off all your precious jewels that "your mama got for you." Alsinia had so many better things to do on a Saturday, but instead her she was, forced to host a block party for the high maintenance bitches of District One. Her ragged old sneakers were concealed by the long, silky skirt that swished around her legs, and her posture was S-shaped and somewhat lazy. She had spent the last hour setting up party games and food, and the back of her dress was clinging to her sweaty skin.

"Tell me what the purpose of this party is again?" Alsinia grumbled, crossing her arms. Her father did not look up from the paper he was writing on, and instead threw a pile of completed posters in her direction. "To celebrate our success in the Games, of course!" he said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. She arched an eyebrow, crossing her arms. "What success? We haven't won yet," she pointed out.
"But we will."
"...your optimism disgusts me."

It must have been a District One thing, for them to have such high expectations of themselves and their neighbors. Not every person who trained in an academy could be a victor. There would always be someone who fucked them over and spat on their graves. They were throwing their money at the wrong people. There was no need to celebrate at this point.

Though, the concept of a block party wasn't so bad. She could have a new boy wrapped around her finger by the end of the day; and if anyone got in the way of things, she could always find some way to humiliate them. The possibilities were endless (once you got past the fact that they were totally demanding and annoying).

The sound of excited chatter reached her ears, and she turned her head. In the distance she could see the first of the partygoers arriving. Alsinia could not stop the devious smirk from dancing its way across her face.

Let the festivities begin.
