We're spending one of our many hard days in poverty, small house, minimum food that can just about feed us. It hurts, it's tough and I just have a burning desire to escape, to be free. It's impossibly hard to control desires, I just wish I could take my family and run, escape from this shit hole of a district. But that's impossible isn't it Damien? It's impossible for you to live in the woods. It's impossible for anyone to escape District eleven. I guess that's what hurts the most, the fact that we're all trapped in a place we are forced to call home even though we wish it was anything but our home.It hurts, it's infuriating, and it's so damn unfair. I sit alone on the sofa, I can't work today, it's not my shift which is quite surprising because me and dad spend nearly every single waking hour in the fields working until we either pass out or stop. I hate it, I hate it, I just hate it. But there's nothing I can do about it, I hate this way of living and yet I still have to live that way. We're going through one of those hard times, not enough money coming in. And as a result we're starving, even with me and my dad trying our best we just can't get money. Here I am sitting on the ragged couch that looks like it's going to collapse if anymore weight is put on it. My brother Damien is curled up next to me, his stomach grumbling, his stomach roaring in anger and deprivation. His skinny arms and soft palms rub the surface of his tummy, he looks like he's about to cry. "D-d-Damien, I'm so hungry." He complains. I look into his pain filled eyes, eyes filled with a way begging for a way out. And it fills me with rage I want to scream, no friends, no charismatic speech can help me now. I'm going to go out and get something done my self. I look at him with a blank expression. "I'll be back." I say to him as I get up and pull on my boots. "Wh-where are you going?" He asks me. "I'm going to try and save your life." I say before getting up, and leaving the house through the door. I sigh as I stuff my hands in my pockets and begin to walk, it's dark outside, it's not late but it's dark, it's winter after all so why wouldn't it be dark? I slowly take a look around, some people are still working their broken backs on the fields. Some people are still working to bring in the little income they'll receive and they'll still probably starve to death tomorrow. The slavery that is taking place makes me clench my fists while they're stuffed in my pockets, the people being worked to death like army horses make me want to scream until my lungs break. The thought of my brother starving back home makes me want to sob; but that also brings with it a new determination to find a way to find money, whether it's stealing or- or. And that's when I realize, there's only one way to do this. There's only one way that I could maybe find some money without the risk of getting whipped to a near death state by peacekeepers. And I know my family would not approve. You see a while ago I heard of a fighting place, a place where people who enjoyed watching people beat each other to near death could place bets, and then people could just start to fight and get money from it. I'm usually a fighter but I've heard some of the guys who fight there know what they're doing. So I decide to take to the general direction where it's at, I don't really think many people know about it. Do the peacekeeper's know? Do many people know? Probably not, District eleven is quite a big district after all. So with a long sigh I continue walking at a quick pace, in the direction where I was told it was at. I know I could end up being seriously injured but there's nothing I can do about it. We need the food. So after a while of walking I find the place, some kind of large alleyway where there's a crowd and a place to fight, I continue walking and I see the crowd of people and it leaves me slightly intimidated but I need to keep walking on. I hold my breath and continue on walking because I know I can't stop, it's not just for me and my pride after all, it's something more important than me. I don't know what happens next but I find myself surrounded. I just remember telling a guy I wanted to fight for some money and then things just happened and now here I am. I wrote down my name and gave it to some guy and he said I could be in the next fight against 'a very tough opponent'. I know whoever it is will give me a fight, one of us will get really fucked up. And it's not going to be me. OOC: I don't exactly know how this works so I just did it how I think it's done.
