Another day in my life, waking up in the morning was a pain, but not one of those literal pains, more like a pain that you feel in your mind when you don't really want to get up and face the world. How many times have I argued with myself over whether or not I should get out of the bed on this or any other previous mornings for that matter. What could I do but roll out of bed and face yet another day in the life of Rachael Loveguard? I could honestly put it all to a script, I'd get out of bed and I'd have to fix myself breakfast because my mom wouldn't, she never does and probably won't at this point in my life. As far as she was concerned I was capable of taking care of myself at this point in my life, and I should be able to fix my own breakfast and manage my own times and all that other wonderful stuff. Truth be told I wasn't really capable of doing that, I could do it all but I couldn't "do" it all.

After I was done with breakfast I would run to school, yes school, we all have to go there, at least all of us in the Career districts that can afford it. Either way, I'd run to school and get all of my things together as quickly as possible before the bell rang telling me it would be time for class, and once more I'd have to run to get to the classes. Once school was over I'd have to go to training, a requirement for the apes that live in this district. It was never an appealing thing to me, I'm not really muscular and I can be a tad bit uncoordinated if I let other things distract me. What I do have going for me is that I'm lithe and agile, agile enough to dance around the bigger Careers when they fight me and at least be a challenge. I'm definitely not weak either, don't get me wrong, I just don't have the muscle mass that everyone else does, so I have to use other elements to my advantage.

It was like that in training today, I worked on the finer points of my fighting, trying to work on improving aspects that I felt I was failing in. Drill after boring drill, weapon after weapon, it was like I was a machine doing all this stuff day in and day out, there had to be more to life than this. Making my way over to one of the benches that lined the wall I took out my bottle of coffee and began to sip it slowly as I watched the others spar on the mats. One particular match caught my eye, a large brutish boy beating up on a thinner one, I could see the thin boy shake with each blow from the bigger boy and I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Why did all those big apes have to show off like that, what was wrong with just following the prescribed training courses? With a resigned sigh I got up from the bench and picked up my blade, walking slowly over to their mat.

I wanted something interesting and different today, well this was definitely out of the script, and it would be interesting to say the least. Stepping onto the matt I watch them go at it a little longer, waiting for something to happen that would warrant my interference. I watched as the bigger boy got the other boy down on the floor, his hands raised up in defeat, but still raised his sword as if to deliver a final blow, that it was time for me to step in. Just as the bigger boy's blade was about to come arcing down I brought my blade between them, the loud clang of metal on metal reverberating around the facility. I look up from the blades and into the face of the boy I had so blatantly challenged, a look of venom in my eyes as I spoke clearly to him. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size you big ape, or do you usually like to make yourself look bigger by picking on the weaker kids."

Yet another day of ripping apart another trainees feelings. Watching them beg for mercy is always fun. I love causing pain. Seeing it in the eyes of the weaklings, well it has to be one of the greatest things I can feel right now. Its so easy and pain is everywhere. I much prefer to give pain rather than receive, but pain is pain. Right now, there's this trainee whom I'm fighting, but he's not really putting up a fight. I'm thinking about ending this fight here and now when my sword clashes against the steel of another. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size you big ape, or do you usually like to make yourself look bigger by picking on the weaker kids." This stranger has no idea. Why would I want to pick on the larger kids who know how to defend themselves.

"It's quite obvious who I want to pick on. These weaklings need to know what pain is. Do you know the meaning of pain? I could show you." I pull away from the girl who's defending the trainee I had been sparring with. This girl had the nerve to interrupt me. Its both amazing and annoying how it was done. If only I knew the confrontation would happen, I might of just finished the spar much sooner than before. Hopefully I get to teach her the true meaning of pain. From the looks of things though this girl hasn't been here often if at all. Probably too afraid of coming here to get her ass kicked by the strong able bodied careers.

"You just going to sit there looking like a dumb bitch? Seriously, it's quite annoying." I desperately wanted to fight her. Even if I lose the spar or whatever this confrontation may be, I will enjoy hurting her. She needs to know what its like to get hurt around here. It doesn't look like there's that many wounds on her from what I can tell so that will have to change in a hurry. Maybe she'll get an arm severed off or even slashed in the chest a couple of times. Something tells me that she wont know what she got herself into. I can feel the blood in my veins boil at the thought of fresh new blood being spilt by my hand. The cold steel that I hold in my hands will be the harbinger of doom for the stranger.

I couldn't help but chuckle at his arrogance, he said he needed to teach these "weaklings" the meaning of pain, and yet I couldn't help but wonder if he knew what real pain was. I could tell by the way he was sizing me up that he felt I would be a pushover much like the last person he was fighting, but I had a lot more to me than my outward appearance told. I actually was well built and physically capable of standing up to most of the Careers here, even if I didn't look at myself as one of them. It just seemed like...to live in this kind of environment you had to be like them, you had to be capable of fighting to survive here otherwise you would end up like the poor boy that met his fate just minutes ago. I couldn't help but smirk when as he looked me over, a small trace of my own arrogance showing.

"So this might be none of my business but I can't help but wonder...do you know what real pain is you dick? Considering all you do is pick on these small guys it's a wonder you know what pain is. How about I give you a lesson hmmm? How about I give YOU a lesson on what pain is." Apparently that to him enough for him to want to fight me, the look in his eyes screamed murder and he asked me if I was going to be a dumb bitch. Now, I could have answered that question by saying yes just to provoke him more, but I decided that he seemed like a dumb enough brute that I'd done enough word play with him. Stepping off towards the other side of the mat I twirled my sword experimentally, tossing it from hand to hand to test its weight.

Carefully I looked him over, looking for weaknesses that I could exploit, and by the way his muscles bulged it was obvious to tell technique wasn't one of his strong points. He would rely heavily on his brute strength to guide him through the fight, and if that failed he would get irritated and become blind to what I was doing. It would be sort of like a bull fight, get them angry and to see red...well that would just be too easy to take advantage of. "I'm guessing this is a bad time, but I think it's only fair we trade names before we try to hack each other to pieces, I'd like to know who it is that I'm being beaten up by." Why not try and appeal to his ego, it would be all that more entertaining if I actually made it out of this thing alive.

It would be nice to give him a false sense of security, let him think that I'd be as much a pushover as all the other people he picked on here. It was high time that he learned what a real fight was, and for better or worse...win or lose I was going to show him what a fight was. Raising my sword I took my ready stance and pointed the blade at him, giving him a slight nod to indicate I was ready for the fight. I could feel my heart beat in my chest as I waited for the clang of steel on steel to ring through my ears, for the adrenaline to start pumping in my veins.
