SAPPHIRE MORTEZ
name: Sapphire Mortez
age: 15
district: 4
Gender: female
name: Sapphire Mortez
age: 15
district: 4
Gender: female
appearance
Blue eyes bright like no other. They go well with the colours of the water drifting up onto the beach in the shores of district 4. Bouncy golden brown curls which are often left in a high ponytail. Many people tell me I'm pretty, I would agree if I didn't have bad acne which causes me to cake on plenty of makeup to hide it. If i can find any makeup that is.
I'm tall-ish. Taller than my older brother you could say. Tanned like my dear father. Only other bother would be the nasty scar above my eyebrow that costs more makeup from when I was little. Little and clueless, unaware about the dangers of the cruel event known as "the hunger games." My hands worn out from making fishing nets, sore and painful.
personality
I have a soft spot for all things little, cute and just flat out adorable. I couldn't help to stop and say "AWWWWWWWW!" But I can be Stubborn, its my way or no way. I stand being told what to do, or anyone else being as stubborn as me. Thats also why I sometimes can't stand myself. If anyone come near my little sister Mae, you better watch your back. She is to precious to delicate to be in our cruel world. No matter how much I try to avoid it, her time will one day come and she too will have to face the horrors of pricking your finger by the entrance, Sitting with hundreds of children you saying in your head "Not me... Not me!" the colourful capitol resident comes out saying the dreadful sentence "may the odds be ever in your favour!"
However i can not prevent when the year comes to when she to will have a name in the bowl, having a chance of entering the arena......
You probably have noticed that, even though I'm a Career....... I am TERRIFIED of the games. But still. I'm forced to go to training. To prepare for the games. Bring pride to our district. No matter how different ways I learn how to kill someone with a knife. I will always be praying that It is not me, that the Died manicured hand didn't pull out a piece of paper with my name on it. My brother doesn't agree. He likes to practise his skills on the fish that he catches. I hope he doesn't convince Mae to be like him. Mum and Dad are also on his side. They are proud to have a son that wants to throw a knife at some innocent child's head.
I hate it when someone touches my hair. Its good to look at but seriously? "lEAVE IT ALONE!" those are the words you will hear if you mess with my hair. I'm a bit curious, if someone said "Sapphire, stay right here." I sigh... OOOOH whats that? A seashell? Oh myyyyyyy. and off I go out to see the world not listening to what I'm told, which results in a argument with Dad, Him saying "YOUR SO IRRESPONSIBLE" or "HOW CAN I TRUST YOU!" which then results with me being stubborn. Which Then results with not talking to each other for a week. At least I get rewarded with a friendly hug from Mae which are the BEST hugs around.
history
My brother Calvin, is 2 years older than me. I have always been admiring him for how much fish he brings home for dinner or he twirls his knife around in his hands. I wanted to be EXACTLY like him, so one day I decided to go on a fishing trip with him and dad. Calvin helped me put the bait on the hook, and dad casted the line. "This is heaaaaavy!" I remember me curling my fingers around the pole looking out to the ocean. Drifting off from the boredom of sitting in a boat I did a big little girl groan. I suddenly felt the pole bend and pull out of my hands. Dad rushed over to help. He moved my hands over to the reel and helped me get the fish out the water. I gripped the pole and did one big yank. The line came out of the water and swung to me, the hook hit me in the face above my eyebrow causing me to fall backwards. No fish was on the hook it was just snagged on the bottom of the sea. I don't remember much else.... Just a lot of blood. and a scar that remains exactly wear the hook cut me.
I had a happy childhood. Happy memories. I remember walking across the beach with my brother and building sandcastles. I was 7 when Mum told me the news about there was another baby coming. and I was NOT happy. I was scared that the new baby would take away my brother and become the new favourite. I remember mum handing her to me for the first time. "her name is Mae." mum said in her sweet voice that she used. For ages I had a big hate for Mae until the time she started talking. Crossing my arms I sat. Mum told me to play with her while she was shopping. She crawled towards me smiling holding her favourite doll. I looked back into her eyes. Blue. The same colour as mine. "sapphire!" she said. I was shocked! She came up and hugged me. Her first word was my name, MY NAME. I soon loved my little sister.
I was 13 when I was going to start work. I never had any luck with fishing. No matter how hard I tried. I also had the fear of being struck in the head with the fishing hook like I was so many years ago. So I took my profession somewhere else. I Made money by making fishing nets and fishing hooks. It was hard to get the hang of. and I had to suffer with the aching hands and wrists. I'm not sure how I got so Paranoid with the hunger games. I only know crying hugging mum not wanting to leave scared of being taken away to the capitol.
I never had many friends. Maybe its from my stubbornness. But I would just normally hang by the swing eating my lunch. But having looks It gave me a couple of Guy-friends. I'm mostly bullied in the training classes. Due to the fact that I couldn't hurt the setups. But the best thing is when I get home from work and school. I walk along the beach with Mae and Calvin and that makes any bulling or bad times.
