The look of horror was on her face as Anni walked along the weapons that were displayed throughout the training center. It wasn’t the idea that she would have to use them that had contorted her facial expression; it was the thought of how many different ways she could be killed that struck her. Harpoon, long blade, throwing knives, axe—and yet they intrigued her as her mind immediately began deconstructing the weapons. She had to admit that she worked best with circuitry opposed to the actual object, but her training was enough that she could understand weak spots, points that if attacked would render the weapon neutralized.
Defensive thinking wouldn’t win her the Games, no matter how slim the chances were regardless, but at least it gave her an idea of what she was going up against. Her eyes stared at the axe first, her small hand reaching out to touch it. It was an incredible work of craftsmanship that must have taken a lot of time to complete, and Anni was certain that if she had picked it up, she would have found the perfect weighting that allowed enough flexibility that anyone that had some semblance of arm muscle would have been able to adapt to the axe. “Beautiful,” she whispered, before she thought she heard steps and let go the axe in surprise. The axe fell to the floor and clattered, the loud sound ringing out throughout the immediate area and Anni froze in fear as she felt several eyes glaring right through her.
The last thing she wanted was to draw attention to herself, so she ducked her head down and waited for everyone to start ignoring her again. Crap, just go away. Why can’t everyone just go away? Using her long hair to hide her face, she crouched down to pick up the axe but not before hesitation to re-examine it. Oh how interesting, she mused to herself as she tilted her head sideways and processed the new piece of information. That was going to be handy if she was ever up against the axe.
