I walk proud, the sword slung over my shoulders, my arms draped over the item I fought so hard for. A grin splits my features, and my dark eyes flash with a danger matched only by the swagger I walk with. My gaze slips over my shoulder, watching Mizar, Mary-Ellen, and of course, Ares.

I want that axe the pretty one holds, the blade still bloody, coated in a sluggish crimson liquid. I offer her a grin, my eyebrows wiggling in her direction. If Ares and Mary Ellen could be together, why not Mizar and me? I'm sure they've slept together.

A yawn parts my lips, and I stretch an arm as high as I can reach. "I think we're far enough away at this point." I say, a hand lowering my weapon to my side. "Let's break and make camp. A fire might be something nice. But first-" I offer the bloodied sword to Ares, expecting him to take it.

An exchange- somehow, I wind up with the heavy axe I've been eyeing since we left the bloodbath. I bring the blade to my lips, and gently kiss the cool steel of my only companion. I tuck her into my belt and begin to think of a name for her- why not? We would be together until the end.

I search and dig around for dried branches, keeping that stupid smirk on my face. Gods, I wish it would go away, but I can't allow the confidence to falter. We all escaped the bloodbath, relatively unharmed.

Sure, my leg hurts, but what can you do?

Ares was the only one untouched by anything. My gaze lifts a few feet away as my hands work, collecting as much firewood and tinder as I can. It's Mizar, and I can't help but laugh to myself. She's still pretty, regardless of how awful her hair is, or how smeared her makeup seems to be.

I've escaped from the bloodbath. It still angers me that I had to flee. My cowardice won't last long though seeing as my conquest is just beginning. I don't have anything really except this flail and a bag. My flail has quite a bit of blood to it considering I didn't stay long in the bloodbath. Maybe this weapon will do me some good. I didn't get to use it for long, but my one hit with it did a lot of damage. I have this games in the bag. Something in the air catches my attention. A beeping noise followed by what looks to be a huge parachute carrying some stuff. My greedy hand rip open the parachute to see a variety of items. A empty water jug, a medical kit, a jar of what looks like red paint, and a jar of tar. The grin that spreads on my lips could not be any bigger. Someone must of witnessed my brief moment of terror in the bloodbath if they're sponsoring me this stuff. I open the jar of paint and dab my fingers in the paint. My fingers cross near my eyes several times to make what I hope is an intimidating pattern. I repeat the motion over and over to make sure the design is there.

I hear something in the distance. Scooping up the items in my bag, I ready my flail and set off to see what the commotion is. Could I actually get lucky and find some tributes to kill? Hopefully seeing as I embarrassed myself in the bloodbath. I bet my family wishes I died. I shake my head. Dwelling on them will not benefit me in the slightest. I'm alone in the arena. More noise which makes me pick up my pace. Today the god of war will find mortals to kill. I'm not some mere mortal, I am the god of war here to hunt down tributes to kill. The games might as well crown me the victor. No one will ever be able to surpass my combat skills. I finally spot some tributes in the open. My breathing halts to a slow steady rhythm of quietness. When I see who it is, I let out a burst of anger.

"You got to be kidding me. The three fucking idiots alive?" The anger I feel washes over me like lava over earth. I can see Mary badly hurt. With a growl of anger, I pull the medical kit out of my bag. After opening it, I grab the contents and move to heal Mary. I carefully patch her up with the needle and thread I have. Not the best work, but I fared well with healing her. I notice some nearby plants. I also pick up some firewood that may come in handy later. A few of the plants look like they could help me, so I snatch them up as well. One of the plants look like they could help Mary which I happen to throw on her wounds. I wrap some bandages as a last resort. "Watch your fucking ass next time you dumb bimbo." Henry reluctantly approaches me and hands me a sword. My eyes take in the powerful weapon in front of me. I hand Mizar the flail only because I don't need it anymore. "The god of war with a sword......" The words are more of a mutter than anything else.

I'm not unhappy to leave all of that behind me, it was too painful to stay there, it was too hard for me to hear all of the screaming and moaning. How terrible it was to watch that boy lose his head, watching it roll along the ground and come to a halt, a look of terror frozen on the features. It was almost as if he knew it was coming, and what could I do but stand helplessly, my mouth open as a silent scream escaped me. He deserved better than that, we all did, we didn't deserve to have to die like this. My mind wandered to my allies, had they made it out alive, were they out in the forest wondering where I was just as I was wondering where they were?

It was unlikely, Ares was too much of a pig head to care about anyone but himself, and of course Mizar...well Mizar was a lunatic. Henry was about the only one that seemed nice, and even he had bouts of time when he was sharing his mind with some alter ego named Hades. Now that I think of it...none of my allies were sane, I was partnered up with 3 crazy people who would be just as happy to rip my head off as they would be to fight with me. What the hell was I thinking when I did this, I should have tried to ally myself with some sane people. Not this bunch of freaks that were going to tear each other limb from limb. Then again, was I any different than them? I had after all asked them all to join me in this band of idiots.

Kicking the ground I walk along aimlessly, my feet leading me as far away from the Bloodbath as possible. I needed to get out of here, I needed to get as far away from it all as possible...the silence was beautiful to me. Of course, my curse came back with a resounding ferocity because I could hear a voice yelling out somewhere in the forest, something about killing someone and shutting up and death. There was only one person I knew that had a pair of lungs on them like that, Mizar had to be around here somewhere, and chances are I wasn't the only one that heard her either. Chances are my allies would be able to hear her, in fact chances are the whole arena could probably hear her.

I picked up my pace a little and jogged toward the general direction of the yelling, breaking through the underbrush and snapping twigs off of some of the bushes as I worked toward the voice. Finally I break out of the forest and slow down, the unmistakable frame of Mizar standing in the forest shouting out some nonsense about "shutting the fuck up". "Yes yes yes, we get it Mizar, you love to shout at shadows and throw your axes at people. Next time I think you should throw that axe at something a little more helpful...and not that tree." I grinned at sat down, working on wiping the blood off my clothes and my face.

As I worked three parachutes fell out of the sky, gifts from a benefactor that wanted me to stay alive. A knife, more useful than my previous weapon, an empty water jug, and a medical kit. That medical kit would be useful right now considering all the wounds that I had suffered in the Bloodbath. As I started to work on my wounds I watched Ares receive some packages of his own, and to my surprise he came over to me with his own medical kit. I looked at him appreciatively and ran my hand along the ground, picking up some of the herbs that were scattered around me. A lucky strike on my count considering all things, it wasn't until I sat down that my body began to scream in protest from all the movement.

I ignored Ares' insults and looked around the small "camp", wondering how long this moment of peace would last. I looked from person to person wondering how long it would be before these people that I called my friends, loosely of course, would turn their blades on me. It was a scary thought, but I couldn't think about that now, it was time to think about the now and how I had to survive now. Worry about the future when it was necessary to.

Screams echo bouncing through the thickness of my skull haunting the waking memories of innocent people I don't even know being slaughtered before my own two eyes. The faint ticking the master muscle keeping my body live grows colder, harder, stronger plastering a smile against my face smearing with the blood of the innocent. We're all pieces in the puzzle slowly forming as the gamemakers watch the fighting, watching as the lifeless bodies fly towards the ground- waiting for the return back home for the mourning families. Like a fool, my legs misled me forcing me away from the bloodbath leaving behind precious items waiting for the touch of my tiny hands, yet they are laying back at the cornucopia for someone else's hands. The screams of the items calling my name wishing for my return rings through my ears forces screams of hatred into the air. The axe feels special as my hands cling for dear living never letting go; letting go would only cause death.

Laughter rings through my ears taunting me telling me I was weak for fleeing the bloodbath. The sweet scent of Muscinda consumes my soul filling it to the brim with hope. The familiar sound of her laugh sweeps through the air- she's laughing at me, telling me how stupid I am, how she wants my body traveling with hers again. "You couldn't do better than that. You are a career. You're supposed to fight like a career. You're supposed to stand and fight for honor, not run like a coward. You are a coward, Mizar. You aren't worthy of being known as my sister because I wouldn't have fled." Fire surges through my veins pounding inside my head putting pressure behind my eyes willing making them feel like flying out of my head at any given second. My hands grip the axe as my body turns in every direction looking for my sister prepared to slice her head clean off her body only she's not anywhere in sight, she fled like a coward.

"You are the coward! Not me, you! You won't even face me! Come and fight me coward!" Steadily, my feet turn in circles watching for her to appear again wondering where she ran. I'll teach her for making fun of me- nobody makes fun of me and gets away with it, not even my twin. Her laughter rings through my ears again, her breath tickling the back of my neck, but when I turn around, she's no longer there- she's always behind me glued against my back unable to flee. The items fall from my hands onto the ground as anger grows more and more with every passing second twisting my heart into a coal of darkness. Her breath tickles the back of my neck again causing unwanted chills to sprint up and down my spine. Loud howls erupt filling the air hiding the laughing forcing her away. She will leave me now, and I will make sure of it. "You will never catch me, stop trying because nothing will happen. Just listen instead of talking for once. You coward just stop."

The axe flies through the air in the direction of her voice ready for her life to be struck down by the mighty executioner. My hands shake as violent howls flee into the air for everyone to hear daring them to run in my direction. They'll be dead before anyone can stop it. She's here, and she'll help kill them. Her fists will flatten the faces of anyone who wields a weapon against me as I would do for her. Blood of relatives is more important than anything in the world. The axe falls to the ground in front of me preparing for the people to charge. It's my turn to destroy everyone, it's my turn to have a crown placed upon top my head waiting as blood drips down my face onto the ground staining it forever more. The crown belongs on my head, not anyone else's, and I'll do whatever I can so it doesn't happen for anyone else. My hands snatch the items up ignoring the pleas of my sister begging me to stay as my feet carry me away looking for anyone willing to help sever the heads of all the people.

Cannon after cannon sounds signalling the end of the bloodbath, but very few has died, three to be exact. It wasn't much a fight more along the lines of walking through a version of hell as people chanted for lives to be ended. Three lives ended far too soon, and it's almost a guarantee more will die before the day is over with. My legs wander endlessly through the arena my eyes wide staring in every direction. My ears tuned into the sounds surrounding me listening for anything out of the ordinary. The stupid outfit I'm wearing is horrible, nothing I'd wear back home, but as soon as the words of me volunteering, I could no longer make decisions for myself. Every single moment of the last few days were planned for me. Nothing will ever change because now it's my turn to make my own decisions because every decision laying before me is life or death. It's my turn to control my world as I wish to return home to Sam. That's my decision, and I'll do whatever it takes to fulfill that dream because he needs me.

Cannons, and craters lie before me as my eyes scan the area looking for any signs of the so called alliance members. Perhaps the cannons were for them leaving me all alone, but that would be too good for true. Ares is a natural born, arrogant, fighter. He wouldn't go down without a fight, but seeing his face in the sky when the anthem plays would be the best day of my life knowing my hands were the one that put him there. Nothing within this area looks like it would be able to live in, or even use for the survival of myself. The laughter of Muscinda tickles the back of my neck. I don't understand why she won't leave me alone- it's unlike her waiting until the worse moment being placed before me; it's not like I'm going through a living hell right now, but this was done to please her, yet she doesn't even care. "Shut up! Just shut the fuck up! You don't need to be here! You don't belong here! I'm here not you! Now just shut up and leave me alone!" I gaze around the area, and my chin drops because my allies are in front of me.

It didn’t make sense.

She was supposed to be playing this smart, not going on her own and attacking an alliance that was bigger than her. But she was lost and confused and separated from the only person she could basically trust. Anni had barely made it out of the bloodbath alive, and she knew the smart thing to do would be to regroup with her ally and recover for the next day. She wasn’t supposed to have stumbled across one of the alliances, the one with that District 2 boy who had bullied her in the training center.

Lying low, the anger in her body started to boil as she saw them gathered together, giving each other things and taking care of their business. She couldn’t tell if they got along or not as she could barely hear what they were saying—she was focused on attacking their weakest link, the tribute who looked like she had been hurt the worse, the District 12 girl. Anni’s eyes kept staring, knowing that to attack would be a death wish, but she needed to do something besides sitting down.

Where is Ari? she thought to herself as she tightened her grip around the Cat O’ Nine Tails. She would have to find him later, as her instinct to fight was far more dominant than her instinct to be smart. As the adrenaline pulsed through her body, Anni ran forward and attacked the District 12 tribute.

ARGONITE SHORE

That was it. His cue. Time to bow out. The cacophony of the arena sounded less and less like cheers, and more and more like death. Like children dying. Argonite huffed, spitting out breath and blood. His own? He wasn’t sure. He flipped his naginata, smeared blood across his forehead. He was surprised to discover his muscles had already become fatigued. Everything he’d collected weighed on him, including the innards of other tributes. It didn’t bother him as much as it should have. He was a Shore, after all.

But the arena wasn’t going to let him go quite so easily. There were tributes between him and the trees, between him and victory. Argonite lifted his naginata to the sky. I live for the applause, applause, applause.

One last show.

He started at a jog, knees low and glaive high. Upped it a run. And finally to a gallop, racing away from the Cornucopia. The foliage tangled around him, providing some protection. That’s when he stopped, sweating and breathing hard, but evenly. He shifted the naginata under one arm, using it to push aside the fronds in search of Hannah, Magenta and Francesca. They needed to be clearer about where to meet. Just another question he should have figured out sooner. He slashed open a sapling when he heard it. A scream. Not of terror or death, but of rage.

Argonite ducked, the toothed blade in his lap. He shifted the grasses to watch Willis and his band of urchins flee. He caught only glimpses of the conquerors and felt jealousy burn in his belly. It should have been him atop the Cornucopia, crowing his triumph to the Capitol. “Damnit,” he whispered, and in response something behind him buzzed. He turned slowly on crouched knees, his toes muted against the soil. And there, in the split sapling, was a camera.

He pushed his bloodied hair back, cocked a grin. “Hope you’re all doing just as well as I am. Opal, hat, please.”

The weeds rustled. His grin faded. He was tired and sore, but he was ready. He brought the naginata up, slashing it just over Francesca’s head when he recognized her face. He laughed and allowed his body to follow through the motion. He crashed into his district partner, wrapping one arm tightly around her waist. “You have no idea how glad I am to see you.” He leaned into her, trusting her strength just for a moment. He felt her back go rigid the same moment he clocked the enemy.

And Magenta and Hannah too. Argonite slowly pulled away from Cheska, his naginata still wet from the Bloodbath. It was a good weapon, strong and easy to manipulate. But it wasn’t what he’d been trained for. “Hannah, catch!” He tossed the glaive and plucked the flail from her hands. “Ladies, I think we have some business to attend to.”

She wonders why she’s holding herself back. I’m a Career I should be letting my prowess shine, not being concern about my sanity! Hell if I win this I won’t be sane anyways why not start now?

But there’s a good reason to hold back now. Her allies scattered, her chest is a gaping wound. It had fascinated her at first, when she hid in the brush. She’d done some cursory work on it, just enough to fold the dangling flesh together and staunch the bleeding. She missed the blood instantly, the way it distracted her. Without it, all that was left was the pain. She couldn’t even crawl towards the meeting spot. Instead, she sort of swum backwards, keeping her chest to the sky. When she found a good resting spot, she remembers what Remo Moreno said to her just before she boarded the train. “"Oh, and one more thing. Blood thirst will save you in there, use it to your advantage.”

She ponders this and realizes that yes; she can use it towards her advantage. She stands, and before she can even get her footing, Argo is on top of her, crushing her to him. She’s stronger than he is, even with an open chest, but it makes her smile. “Guess I missed you too. Let’s do some damage.”

The cool breeze offered from her fan as she absently waved it in front of her face calmed her down, but it wasn't enough to distract her from what had just happened earlier today. Blood stained the ground and shined almost black like oil when splattered against the side of the golden cornucopia. She had contributed to the death of an innocent person, and if she was going to survive this thing, she would do it again.

She walked between Argonite and Francesca, with Hannah on the other side of Argo. She tried not to dislike her as much since she had offered her first aid after they fled the bloodbath, but she couldn't help feeling slightly annoyed by everything she did. The way she talked, the way she didn't even appear remorseful for being the first to draw the life from someone, and, if she was being honest, even the way she dangled on Argonite all added fuel to a fire within the pits of her chest, the cinders of which were her nails, and she wanted nothing more to burn them across the girl's face, but she couldn't. They were allies.

She acted the way she did for sponsors. Probably. She didn't feel bad for killing because she was a career, and, on top of that, in this particular situation, killing was what they were all expected to do. She dangled on Argonite, however, because she was jealous of the fact that he obviously preferred her. Magenta didn't come here by her own free will, and she sure as hell didn't come here to find love. She could have easily found that back in District Nine.

Still, romance in the eyes of sponsors always went a long way, so she decided it was in her best interest, and in Argonite's, and, technically, Hannah's. She untied the yellow belt from her waist and then wrapped it around her head to serve as a makeshift sweatband, then reached to lace her fingers within Argonite's. (She bet the sponsors would just love that.)

Suddenly Francesca came to a sudden stop, and the rest of them followed to see what was up. That was when she heard the other voices. They weren't alone. With a quick flick of the wrist, her fan stretched open and the long razor blades gleamed in the sunlight. The others prepared for a fight as well, and as soon as the group was in her sight, she lashed out, swinging her blade at the first person she could.

As soon as she recognized the girl's face, however, guilt swallowed her whole. A faint memory of the very same girl asking for Magenta's lips swam through her mind and she felt like a terrible person. No, not a person.

A monster.

So fuck this bullshit. Where the fuck are my allies. I’m pretty sure they were getting the crap kicked out of them back there at the horn. What idiots. Did they even ever learn how to fight? I mean, seriously! There were hardly any shots fired after it ended. What a fucking buzz kill.

I did my job though. I got a nice shiny trophy in a kill. And now I have a pretty glaive in my arm, after having trading weapons with that hunky hunk Argo. I make sure to wink at him before turning to the sky.

“Hey Daddy!” I exclaim, “Wanna send me some stuff?” And sure enough, moments later, a parachute with tar is floating down to me.

I collect the tar before moving on. Time to attack the next idiot I see.

She had to get out. Now. She had somehow managed to get caught in a fight between two alliances—though really it was her fault as she was the one who made the initial attack—but things were getting out of hand and she didn’t know how much more she could take it. Of course one of the alliances was attacking her, but the one that hadn’t been attacking, that had seemed to be assisting her, could turn on her at any moment. Anni was grateful that they had yet to do it, but just as was Ari, she was distrustful of larger groups of people which was why she had allied with him. It only made sense that she left as soon as possible, before taking any more damage, and find him. After all, despite what had just happened, they really only had each other.

Well, that did it. Sort of. It was different with the flail. More familiar and more difficult at the same time. It sailed through the air, landed with a thud. The glaive had been elegant, if strange. Still, he’d come here for one reason, for her. For Opal, and her endless smile. There was only one way out of the arena, and this was it. He yanked the fingers of the flail back, careful to aim over the head of his allies. “I think that’s enough for one day,” he said, looking at Francesca’s gaping chest, Magenta’s one-armed glory.

Damage done. Mission accomplished! For now. She was acutely aware of how little time had passed in the arena. It would take so much more for her to see home again. And yet, every time she looked at Argonite, she saw a little more of home. She shook her head at him, but she couldn’t disagree. It had been a long day. The longest of her life. All she wanted was to lay down somewhere and let the images of blood flash through her mind. “If that’s what you want.” She lifted her naginata, and nodded to the other girls. “Let’s get out of here.”

She wasn't sure if she felt worse about attacking the girl, or the fact that her allies did the same, as well as a petite girl that came out of nowhere. (Had she been following them?) She took a step back and closed the fan, hoping to somehow undo what was done. "I... I'm so, so sorry!" She promised. "I..." But it was too late. The damage was already done, the grave already dug. Now Magenta just had to make sure it wasn't her that was buried. She took a few more steps back, pain stabbing into her very soul, and she clenched her hand over her mouth to conceal a shriek or terror. (Or maybe it was out of shame.)

"I... can't." She decided, and turned on her heels to run, run, run away from all of the horror. She was sorry for leaving, sorry for attacking such a fragile person, sorry for being there at all, and maybe if she left now then her bad deeds would be forgiven by her mother back home, who probably watched the television screen in shock that her innocent baby had turned into such a ferile creature, and so quickly. She hated the games, hated the people that designed them. Was this what they wanted? Were they happy now? A part of the girl had warned her not to join the career alliance, because hunting was one of the things they were most known for, but she was stuck now. She guessed they would punish her if they found her.

Shit.

She couldn't leave. Leaving would mean she was all alone, and therfore just as much a target as everyone else to the people behind her. She stopped, unsure of what to do. She didn't want to leave Argonite, but at the same time, didn't want to be a part of something so sickening. Eventually, her morals lost out, and she found herself waiting on her allies. They wanted a monster, so she was going to be one. Magenta was going to fight. Again, and again. She was going to stay with them.

Well, that was really fun. Wasn’t it? Of course daddy bought me the tar! He’s just so exicted to see his baby girl killing and being awesome. He sees me bringing honor to this district, and that is just absolutely exciting. Fuck yeah District Two! And then there is my plenty removed cousin… I don’t even know if he’s still alive… but it doesn’t even matter, because I’m going all out and he’s going to die anyways. It would be best, if he were in fact dead, because then I wouldn’t have to deal with the killing of my district partner.

And that would suck, wouldn’t it?

I guess it is just time to peace. Live to fight another die, live to shoot some more flaming arrows.
