She's meant to be spotting her brother but in reality Kaia's more interested in picking out her target. Despite everything, Kaia's nerves are still rattled by the escape of Mason Hammerfell and the boy might be mad now but he's a liability. He's a danger to their family and to their... 'business'. If Aragorn ever found out...
Slowly, Kaia inhales. Keep calm and do what you have to do, she tells herself, glancing down to check that her brother is doing fine. He's still going fairly strongly, even if his forehead is dotted with perspiration. She doesn't let herself linger like she might have done a couple of weeks ago, instead lifting her gaze again, studying some of the wrestlers on the mat. Below her Aragorn wavers briefly and Kaia takes it as her cue to press her index fingers beneath the bar without looking. She can feel Aragorn's stare on her face as she scans the room, trying not to look as distracted as she feels.
Act natural.
She's been here practically all day, and there has been no sign of Mason Hammerfell.
Just act natural.
Her eyes flick down to Aragorn's face again and she allows her mouth to part in a slow smile but says nothing. Aragorn refocuses his attention on the barbell, much to her relief. But the lack of attention doesn't put her out of the doghouse at all; if Aragorn is suspicious about something... Shaking her head slightly, Kaia resumes her survey. I'll kill him today and it'll work out.
Five presses later and Aragorn is done. He doesn't speak to her as he walks away to the showers, a towel slung casually around his neck (Kaia watches him go, like she always does; she might be 'going out' with Adriana, but no one can ever take Aragorn's place anywhere). Then, to herself she sighs and wonders if Aragorn is ever going to mention her state of mind. Probably yes... or he might just keep it in for when he needs to use it against me, she thinks grimly. But I have to get to Hammerfell before Aragorn brings it up at all.
Except that Hammerfell is nowhere. She hasn't seen him in weeks; it's almost as though he's simply vanished into thin air after his escape, or, more likely, he gets out of her way sharpish when he sees her before she sees him. I wouldn't be surprised. A smile curls the corner of Kaia's mouth as she recalls the fun they'd had together. Fun for me, anyway.
Kaia shakes her hair back over her shoulders and pulls it up into a quick, messy bun, the shorter strands of her hair slipping free to frame her face. I guess while I'm here...
That one boy with his hair closely shaved to his scalp has many times caught her attention because he looks very much like Mason Hammerfell from behind. Tall, muscular and carrying himself with the kind of authority Kaia usually finds in Peacekeepers and trainers, she thinks he might be a fun toy to break. (Briefly she takes a moment to glance down at herself - shorts and a shirt can do perfectly fine for luring, she supposes. I'd rather hide behind girly and weak, but this works too.) Kaia straightens from picking up her water bottle and makes the trek in the boy's direction, careful to seem as though she is aiming for the towel dispenser near him.
Keep walking. Kaia's eyes travel over the many careers lazily, but she's so aware of the other boy that if she can sell the adrenaline rushing in her veins she'll be rich. Just keep walking.
Kaia's gaze slows over the boy and it lingers.
The bottle slips from her fingers just as her shoulder collides with a ton of muscle and Kaia stumbles with a gasp, her free hand darting out to grab at the boy lest she falls to the ground. He's tougher than I thought, she finds herself thinking wryly as the ground rushes up to her. Then her fingers dig into what feels like iron and she's not falling anymore.
Face flushed, she immediately straightens herself with a worried look at the boy, taking one step closer and half a reluctant step back. "I'm sorry, I just... I got a bit distracted," she says with a flustered and breathless laugh. "Did I hurt you? I mean... I guess I wouldn't, you're all..." Muscular, large, strong, handsome are among the descriptors Kaia could use but she lets herself trail off. The reddish tint in her cheeks deepen as her hands flutter nervously in the air, like she has no idea what to do now. "I'm sorry," Kaia says again, eyes flicking towards his arms and wrapping her arms around her middle. She peeks at him through her lashes, teeth tugging on her bottom lip.
