Jeff Brown
I am the mountain
I am the sea
You can't take that away from me
"Hey, I'm Jeff. I'm from District Two, and I work in the mines through the week - most of the time. I'm seventeen, so I'm not well out of the reaping age, and I'm mostly alone here. I have my mum, and also my little sister, but that is about it. I don't have a bad life, I enjoy it. Working is something I can do."
Appearance
His facial features are the second most prominent thing about Jeff. He has a jawline that is very strong looking, and structurally it looks as though it could break anything. His cheekbones are high which makes his face look particularly striking, which matches with his height of 6"3, which is incredibly tall but not necessarily the tallest. He's very dedicated to making sure that he's able to work in the mines efficiently. Unlike most, when he was a child he didn't partake in career programs or anything particularly physically impacting like that. He instead decided to core himself around a gym atmosphere and to make himself very strong. It was his main goal, especially after his father's death which was a huge influence for him to make himself strong, and stop being weak.
Jeff's dress sense revolves around looking as casual as he likes. He doesn't care to over dress, but he does care to look decent. He likes wearing his leather jacket. Most people who have lost their father, especially anybody like Jeff, want something to remember him by. His jacket is exactly that. He wears it at every occasion, unless it literally is an occasion to which he has to dress differently. If he has to, formal dressing for him generally goes well. He likes to wear things that are just above cut, meaning that they are showing that he's not necessarily dressing to please but dressing for ease, and comfort.
The way in which Jeff conducts himself is as though he's a bruiser, but really - he's a gentle giant. He acts silly sometimes, unintentionally being clumsy to which others can find particularly funny in the way he does so. He trips over a lot, mainly because of his large stature trying to get around a world built for people a little shorter than him. That's his explanation for it, anyway. His walk is tough, but his voice is calm and low. Not soft, and not feminine, but definitely with a particular tone that suggests strength or authority. He has only one of those, however.
Personality
Jeff is a gentle giant. His heart is usually in the right place, but sometimes he cares too much and forgets that he is a giant, and he can be scary. He's a man, and to some people that makes him seem as though he's out looking for a woman. Whilst he is, he tends to befriend any gender friendly. He's not at all judgemental, which is why he's so 'gentle'. He's particular in who he has around him though. He's a positive person who doesn't like negativity, so he tries to repress the negative thoughts of others by trying to counsel them in how they think. This can sometimes come across as too arrogant, or maybe patronizing, but he means all too well by it - an example of how he rarely realizes how he has an affect on people.
His mother influenced a lot of his behavior in his younger years as she was heavily open with him doing anything he pleased. She allowed him to make his own mind up about the world, about the Hunger Games, about the District and where he'd fit into it. Because of her, he was able to come to terms with how to react when his father passed away of lung issues due to his work in the mines. His mother allowed him to grieve properly. She was wise with him, and didn't bother to smother the truth. He didn't grow at all wary of the truth, but he did find himself needing to depend on her much more than any other person in his life.
His father passed away when he was fifteen. He didn't have the luxury of having his father there for when he really did need him. He started work in the mines at the age of sixteen, and he didn't know what to do. He didn't have anybody to follow, not truly. His mother could only tell him so much; to be brave, to be strong. He didn't have his father, so he wasn't able to come to terms with how important it was to be cautious at all times. Of course, it developed naturally over time, but that's why he's so clumsy all the time. He could never fight with a weapon, not truly, because he'd be dropping it all over the place. When people see him, they'd expect him to fight often, but he's never landed a fist on somebody in his life.
History
Jeff was born and raised in Two. His family is really small. In fact, his mother, sister and he are about the only surviving members. It's partially because of their tendency to just stick to the mines and nothing else. It is also because of their poverty. Not many people are poor in Two, and the Brown family isn't either, but it's because of their sparsity that it makes them seem so. Jeff earns the money for the family, for his sister and his mother. His sister isn't a miner, and his mother is retired out of work. Jeff has to earn money for the whole family, and operate all the finances himself.
When he was fifteen, his father passed away. This was the huge turning point for him as his mother was just reaching the retirement age. Their family went through a rough patch that had him very insecure about what the future would hold. He didn't know whether they were actually going to make it by because they were running low on anything to do with the word money. Thankfully, Jeff and his sister raised funds by helping around town with local services. It's a frowned upon thing, but it was a desperate time. Because of this, he did grow very protective over his little sister and didn't want to have anything happen to her because they're very close. His mother is the protective one over Jeff. He knows for a fact that she'll be fine, and if she isn't she would say it. She has never been one to refuse help from anybody.
Now, Jeff is currently trying to raise enough money for his little sister to secure herself an income for when he turns eighteen. He probably won't leave the house at that age by choice, but if worse comes to worst he will have to. In any event, he's managing to save up money for her to be safe whilst she finds work. It isn't too hard to find work, but anything other than the mines is difficult. He wants her to be independent and to stand on her own two feet so that he can sit down for a while and take a break. He's been working hard for the family for too long, but he's still humble about it.'Cause you tear us apart
With all the things you don't like
You can't understand, that I won't leave
'Til we're finished here and then you'll find out
Where it all went wrong
