ICE COLD STORY
Is it night or day?
Won't matter anyway!
'Cause if it's dark inside,
It's dark outside!
Iris had never been alone like this before. The wind was especially harsh this night; it was even worse in the corn fields. Usually the peacekeepers kept a watch on them, but tonight they were slacking slightly. No crimes had happened recently - the district was behaving. That meant everyone got a break from dozens of eyes fixed on their community. Of course, Iris took the opportunity to do some snooping around. Honeysgayle Mill was the perfect place to visit on a freezing cold night with a full moon high in the sky. Admittedly Iris adored visiting old, abandoned and broken down buildings. Honeysgayle was her only favourite, however.
Rumour has it the man who once managed Honeysgayle was snitched in to peacekeepers for not paying up a fair amount of taxes and had to watch them shoot his family then beat him to death. It were an ice cold story, Iris new that, but she had always enjoyed getting told that story over and over again by Granny Gretle. The best part was how he haunts the mill to this very day, in search of revenge for his family. Boy did Iris love telling that story to little kids so they got scared!
There she was; hair blowing in the wind as she stood at the front gates of Honeysgayle. A very light layer of smog was looming around them, giving it a rather sinister yet pleasurable feeling.. It excited Iris. The tension as she pushed open the gates and listened to the creak was amazing. Being a self confessed adrenalin junkie, Iris was allowed to do stuff like this. The chances of a peacekeeper finding her was pretty low, so she didn't feel overly at risk.
Within a matter of seconds she was up at the front porch of the building and had her hand pressed up against the rotting wooden doorway. With only a little push, the whole thing literally crumbled into a pile of soot - the building wasn't safe. Perfect. Giving the outside world one last glance to make sure nobody had followed her, Iris crept inside.
