Name: Eva Tidestone
Gender: female
Age:15 16 17 years old
Area: District 4
Appearance:
Beauty, a thing that people find to be the most important quality in women even above knowledge. However, it is a thing that I have never been able to achieve for I simply am not beautiful. It all starts with my face, my smile is crooked along with my teeth, my nose is twisted at its end, and my brown eyes are very small almost slits. Even my nails are disgusting, always cracked and freakishly long as well. Then is my freakish height of 6'6, but that's not what makes it freakish. The problem with my stature is my unhealthy skinniness caused by my brittle bone disease. I haven't ever been able to exercise to gain weight by growing muscle or else I risked breaking a bone.I also scares myself into never eating too much or else I feared I could become over weight and break my legs under the pressure. However my parents always told me that could never happen but I never believed them. My total weight is 126lbs, for a girl my age and height it is so unhealthy that you can clearly see my bones. However, there is nothing else I can do because of my disease and extreme poverty.
In a world like this I have officially the worst odds, knowing if I ever get reaped I am as good as dead with my medical condition. Then to make it all worse my family is extremely poor even though other districts think no one from the upper districts are poor they are wrong. I always where the same outfit whether I get the chance to clean it in the river or not. It is a red short sleeved shirt, some ripped up jeans, and some worn out sandals, all of which are covered normally in dirt and grime. The only time I ever wear something that looks partially good is on Reaping day when I wear a purple short dress and slightly less worn out sandals. Now as for my naturally pale skin and short black hair are the same as my clothes, mostly covered in grime and dirt. So in all honesty, I am not beautiful not even pretty, I am ugly and I know that.
Personality:
My personality is a very interesting one compared to the way I look. Unlike my appearance my parents say that my personality is one of great beauty and honor. It all starts off with my maturity and patience. I always have been mature for my age due to my condition and my family. My condition forced me to with strain myself from the typical child things and do adult like things instead such as laundry. My family has also made me greatly mature since I am the oldest of five children and they all look to me to set an example for them. My mother says I would make a great mother but I don't ever want to have kids due to the games and due to the fact I don't want them to possibly end up with my condition.
Even though I live in a world of evil and destruction of young and pure life I find and create my own beauty. What I mean by this is I am absolutely obsessed with music and how it coincides with us and the world. I always find myself listening to the songs of nature such as the song of birds or the sound of waves. I even find myself tuning in very carefully to the sound of metal clashing during the Hunger Games as tributes fight. However, above all I find myself making my own music with a small violin I was given as a young girl.
Last of all is my knowledge of almost all things that I can learn about. Where my physical muscles lacked my brain and mind thrived. I am the top student in my class always scoring high on my quizzes and exams in school. However, I don't live in district three instead I live here in district four where intellect doesn't even matter that much. What really matters is how you look, how you catch fish, and most of all how well you are prepared for the Hunger Games. So just as my appearance is neglected so is my vast intelligence.
History:
My life began when I was born to Hermie and Matilda Tidestone, a very poor couple in district four. I was their first born of a total of five children. Born a year after me was Riley my first brother, then the year after that Abigale my first sister, then another year after that Christy my last sister, and the last year after that Iroh my last brother. All my siblings were born healthy and quite lovely, however, I was the unlike one born with brittle bone disease which might as well be a death sentence in this world. I never understood why my parents had so many children since they had almost no money and a first child as bad as me. However, whenever I would ask them they would say, that first time we looked into your eyes we knew we wanted more. To this day I don't understand what it means and my mother says I won't ever be able to understand until I have children of my own.
As for my childhood, it was quite boring and depressing. While my siblings and other children my age got to go out and play I was strictly stuck indoors. While they played I would have to help my mom with things around our shack of a house. I would either make meals, wash clothes, or mend clothes depending on what needed to be done a certain day. However, one day when I was watching my siblings play with a ball in our small weedy yard I saw an elderly man fall on a sidewalk nearby. I watched and waited for someone to help the struggling man up but no one did so I ran out of the house and helped him up. Once on his feet the man looked at me and said softly, "Thank you my dear girl I didn't think anyone was going to come help me." I simply told him it was nothing since I saw him fall from my house. He then asked if I got out of the house much and I told him no due to my disease and what he did next I still remember today. He opened his bag and handed me an old violin, he told me that this would help the hours go by. I hugged the man for a whole minute before my mother began frantically calling my name and I had to leave the kind old man who I never saw again.
It took me awhile but I did eventually teach myself how to play the violin and once I did I would play it for hours upon hours. I would compose new songs from whatever flowed through my mind at a current time and then play them for my family after we ate supper. At first my family hated the constant sound of me playing but after awhile they grew to love it. They said it created beauty within their dark and scary lives and that when I played it made them feel safe. However, my biggest fan and supporter of all was my youngest brother Iroh who I have even begun to teach to play the violin as well. I may have never seen that old man again but one thing is for sure, because of him he brought happiness to a sad lonely girl's life and that girl will never forget him.
