Pine Oak
Color blast across the sky as the sun begins sitting behind the trees for the night. Red, orange, yellow, purple. Every color turning the sky as the moon begins peaking over the horizon for the night as the sun needs its rest. My eyes gaze out the window wishing I was outdoors laying beneath the trees watching the day fade to night as the wind blew leaves from the trees. It's been another hot day, and it's one where everyone says I should stay indoors. It pisses me off beyond belief when people tell me how to live my life like I'm a helpless child, but that's not the point. Summer is starting to take charge, and it makes the days hot, but the nights are cooler thankfully.
"Pine, have you seen Willow?"
Sometimes it would be nice if people just left me alone giving me the chance to daydream, but that never seems to happen. Her voice echoes through my head as my stump taps against the window. No, I haven't seen Willow. I'm not her keeper. I roll my eyes before turning my gaze towards the woman who spoke to me. Several times, she yells at me for not having respect for her, but nothing can be done. She treats me like I'm a child, and that's not how life works. Just because I'm missing a hand doesn't mean I'm incapable of taking care of myself. Money is brought home, illegally of course, but it doesn't make any difference.
"No, I haven't seen her. She's not my responsibility, but I will go look for her if you wish."
A scowl grows across her face. If looks could kill, I would be dead right now. She quickly turns away from me and leaves the room. She wants me to go find her, but she's giving me the choice. Perhaps things will go better once she's back home. I kick the chair in front of me before moving away from the window and heading out the door prepared to look for Willow.
I hate her.
I hate them.
I hate myself.
My eyes glance up at the trees cowering several feet above my head. Occasionally a squirrel will run up the branches knocking into the leaves rattling them. My life is renewed outdoors. With each step, the hard grass crunches under my feet causing a grin to grow against my face. The lose branches on the ground crunch under my feet as the woods slowly begins to surround me. The trees shield the sky from the setting sun causing darkness to surround me. My eyes scan the area looking for Willow although it may be too late to find her as I have no idea where she is.
Then, I see her.
And I stop.
"Willow?"
