Hi there. Um, not entirely sure I'm doing this right, but as there was no form to fill out to create a character, I figured I'd make a new thread. If I'm doing this all wrong, I'm really sorry, and please, point me in the right direction, because any direction is better than none at all.
So, here goes, I guess.
Name: Ayan (Pronounced A-yawn) Aktar
Age: 14 1/2 (Birthday is November 16th, in the year of the 52nd Hunger Games)
Gender: Female
District/Area: 11
Appearance: Ayan is 5 feet, 3 inches tall. She's very thin, probably around 85 pounds with hollow cheeks and ribs you can see through her shirt. Her bones seem to "stick out", giving her a sharper appearance than she really is. However, she stands very strongly, without shying away. She stands tall, proud. Ayan has brown hair, though it's brown in the loosest sense of the word. It's very thing, very worn out. The color seems to have washed out, though it's her natural color, so it's a very faded thing. Her hair is about chin length, though it's very unevenly cut, because she cut it with a knife without a mirror. She has brown eyes that often have a dull look to them, as she often is uninterested in what's going on around her.
Ayan isn't very strong. She helps her mother babysit/run a nursery each day after school, so she's able to carry small children around, but anything much heavier than that is a stretch. She can, however, run pretty quickly, because she's had to run after some of the younger children before. She can climb trees very well, because since she lives in District 11, she has to help out with the harvesting of trees, and since she weighs so little she can easily climb onto thin branches.
She carries a knife hidden in her pants. It's very sharp, as she sharpens it often. She carries the knife because she was nearly raped at the age of 12, and if something like that were to happen again, she wants to be able to protect herself. She typically wears loose-fitting pants with several holes in them and a closer-fitting t-shirt, with her hair pulled back in a bun when she has something to tie it with. She never wears anything on her feet, because her feet tend to outgrow shoes too quickly to be worth the money spent on them, and her feet have toughened up enough over time that she can walk on nearly anything without feeling pain or discomfort.
Personality: Ayan claims to hate everyone. However, she truly doesn't. She genuinely likes most people, but she's afraid of something happening to them, so she tries to remain closed off. For the most part, people don't feel one way or another about her, as she tries not to draw attention to herself. That said, she is very opinionated, and sometimes she cannot control herself, and she'll have a loud outburst, which surprises a lot of people. With the typical person she knows, though, she seems almost standoffish, and to them she seems to feel she's above them, though she actually feels rather below most people.
She does have some friends, and she's far more open with them than she is with anyone else, save her mother. At first they welcomed her as she appeared, a shy girl with strong opinions, but once they got to know her they discovered that she's far more than she first seemed. She's funny, creative, and intelligent, but the District 11 atmosphere gives her little use for her natural talents.
Outside of her school friends, she's very close to her mother, as stated above. They tell each other almost everything, and Ayan's mother knows her nearly as well as she knows herself.
Ayan is also very close to the little kids she watches, but in a very different way than she is with others. She cares deeply for all of them, but she's afraid it will end up hurting her more in the end, if any of them are drawn into the Hunger Games when they're older. But as they are, sweet and young and innocent, she loves and cares for them more than she does anyone else.
Ayan laughs and smiles easily, though it does not happen often. She teases people she knows well, and she tries to keep the focus of conversations off herself, but when she's comfortable and gets going, she talks mainly about herself, despite her efforts to talk about the other person. Ayan is quick to anger, but quick to calm as well, and this annoys those around her.
History: Ayan has 5 older siblings, all boys. Her mother once had a daughter, but she died before Ayan was born. All but the youngest brother are out of school, and they spend their days working. The brother closest in age to Ayan used to help her and their mother, but after Ayan became eligible to be chosen for the Hunger Games, he became increasingly distant, spending more and more time with their father.
Ayan's parents are divorced, and her father lives on the other side of town. Her parents have been divorced nearly as long as Ayan has been alive, and Ayan suspects it is because of her birth and her sister's death that they divorced. Nobody in the family speaks of Ayan's sister, and Ayan doesn't even know her sister's name. Ayan refuses to talk to her father, as he was not there when she was growing up, though he's tried to make up for this by helping her family out enough that they won't have to apply for tesserae.
As previously stated, Ayan helps her mother watch small children. For parents with children not yet of school age, it's harder to keep an eye on their children while trying to work, so those with enough money pay Ayan and her mother to watch their kids.
Ayan was nearly raped at the age of 12. She was coming home after walking a little girl back to her house, when a gang of boys surrounded her. She fled an alley, only to discover it had a dead-end. The boys cornered her, but she was saved by a kind stranger, who had seen the boys crowd into the alley. However, because of this she decided to always carry a knife, in case she ever needed to protect herself. Because of her worries, she secretly practiced throwing and stabbing with her knife, though she's never tried it on a person, or any moving target, and she's not entirely confident she could even move if she were put into any situation that might require a weapon.
