In any district, someone like Vespa Ivy would stand out to anyone who may be passing through. She is not conventionally pretty like many of the other girls in her class, with a nose that is just a little too wide and lips that are slightly too thick, not to mention her long black dreadlocks. She usually ties her hair up into a bandanna to keep it out of her face, as it is far too thick to wear in a simple ponytail.
Although she is not a 'pretty girl', Vespa does have a look that is different, noticeable even. Her eyes are dark and unreadable, and she has the distinct look in them of a predator waiting to spot any signs of weakness. Her teeth are sharp and white, and when she smiles, which is rare, it looks more like a wolf curling up its lips to expose their fangs, just before attacking their prey.
Vespa's body is lean and muscular, built up after years of training with her father. She is 5"10 and weighs 70kg, with very little fat to spare; her training means that she has lost her puppy fat faster than girls from other districts may have done. Her legs are long and athletic, she is a swift runner, however she is not very nimble, and isn't very good at climbing. However, she has above average upper body strength, enabling her to wield most weapons and tools with ease.
Personality:
The word 'Vespa' is Latin for 'wasp', and a wasp would be the perfect animal to equate with Vespa Ivy. Like a wasp, she is able to sting again and again without any damage to herself, and like a wasp she will attack without the slightest provocation.
Vespa is someone that psychologists(in the time before the uprising, when psychologists existed) would have called a sociopath. A sociopath is someone who cannot connect with the feelings of others whatsoever, and will manipulate, con and dominate anyone to achieve their own goals, no matter what the personal connection to the sociopath may be. Vespa's past has given her a deep distrust of everyone, and she is no longer able to feel many emotions that most people experience. Her lack of empathy means that she cares only for herself, and is willing to do whatever it takes to win at what she has set her mind on winning. Most sociopaths don't set out to deliberately harm others, and this is where Vespa differs from the 'textbook definition' of a sociopath. She has a cruel streak that is most prominent with her treatment of her family. When she and her half brother Janus were younger, Janus broke his arm from falling off a wall. It later transpired that he had taken one of Vespa's dolls to play with a month before, and Vespa had simply seen the opportunity and taken it.
However, she does have some redeeming qualities. Although she doesn't feel many emotions, she is very good and convincing others that she is innocent of all blame, and is even able to make some friends that she has simply not found a use for. People would say that she was a decent girl, if a little surly and moody at times, and she can come off as charming when she tries to. The only issue is that she doesn't often try. Due to her lack of panic, she doesn't react to a stressful situation negatively, and even when under great pressure is adaptable to her surroundings. She is clever and strong in school, however would not be above cheating on a test if it would mean that she would win.
Unlike some sociopaths, Vespa doesn't crave adventure and distraction from life, and all she really wants in life is to win against adversity, no matter who. She hates the capitol, unlike most in her district, and sees them as a force to be overthrown. Fortunately, she isn't very talkative, and so her rebellious ideas haven't spread around the district, the way gossip often tends to. However, the time is coming to try and find people who think like her...which is difficult in a district where she is always the odd one out.

When Kelis Romano found out that she was pregnant, her first feeling was total elation. A baby may be just what she needed!
To get her out of jail that is.
Kelis was on death row in district 2 for political acts of terror when she met a peacekeeper, Orell Ivy. She was an object of lust for him, and every day she teased and tortured the poor man with her body, knowing that he could never do anything about it. Until one day he snapped. In the dead of night, Orell entered Kelis' cell and forced himself upon her.
Nine months later, Kelis was dead, Orell was retired from his peacekeeping duties, and a baby arrived on his doorstep. Orell was left to bring up Vespa as a single parent, and he was determined that she would be nothing like her mother- in no way a volatile femme fatale, who would incite lust and male objectification. He wanted to train her out of the foolishness that many girls had, and in his own misogynistic way he did love her. He wanted her to be the embodiment of himself (yet female), and trained her mind and body to the standards of a high quality peacekeeper, in the hopes that she wouldn't be reaped and become a peacekeeper just like him.
As Vespa grew up, she started to read more about the history of rebellious incitement in district 2 (in illegal books that she found on the black market), and eventually found an old photo of a young woman who looked similar to her, and details of the woman's pregnancy and how her child was now living in district 2. As she was one of the few black people in the district, Vespa soon put two and two together, realizing that the man that the book had described raping "revolutionary 2987" was her father.
Since that day, she has had a hatred of all authority figures, and especially males, and she is just biding her time to get revenge on her father for his past. /blockquote]
