[Day 2] Decathlon: Javelin Throw

DECATHLON: JAVELIN THROW

Welcome to the Decathlon tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character setting up for their throws, and then paste the code [*roll=980+6500] without the asterisks into your post THREE TIMES and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a distance, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 6882 is read as 68.82 meters) Each participant will be measured by their best throw only, not their average distance or the sum of their throws.

The competitor with the furthest distance wins this event. Distances for this event will be continually updated on this thread; however, the overall decathlon standings will be updated on a separate thread.

After you have rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction to each throw if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your throws whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

Milo Birch

Fifth place. She was in fifth place and that was four places away from fourth and two places away from a medal. The very concept of fifth was completely and utterly unacceptable to Milo Birch of district two, and it made her blood curl and her heart pound just a little quicker. Everything was riding on the next couple of events. They would determine whether or not she could get a good foothold on the other competitors and bump her standing from fifth to at the very least, third.

Milo sauntered onto the field, a picture of confidence, and stared her competitors down with a glare of intimidation. They would not surpass her glory today. She was destined to win, despite their confidence. With a grin, she grabbed the javelin and gave it her best throw, not once, not twice, but three times.

Xander's luck today had been all over the place, from doing down right awful in a running event. To beating a larger and possibly deadlier opponent in his boxing match. Wait no, not luck, his skills and focus had been all over the place. He might be young and small but that doesn't excuse his actions today. He knew this next event was crucial for him and his chances for winning the decathlon. He had done his job yesterday and was put fourth overall but after this mornings run he needed to step back up to the plate. In fact, he believed he had to win and win he would try with all his might. Yet he knew he had to link his focus with his burning determination to be effective.

As he warmed up for the javelin throw he made himself focus of the javelin and his target. Which in his mind was a tribute he was stalking but was now far away and he needed to throw a spear to kill him. During warm up he felt as though he could go either way in this event. But he couldn't allow himself to slip again, he needed this win or else his aspirations could come to a screeching halt.

As he took his place for his throw he took a few extra seconds to tune out the crowd and just focus of that far away tribute. When he finally felt he could slay the tribute he exhaled and threw the javelin towards that tribute and watched it soar.

She was a pillar of strength not a weakling. She would not stand with being called one. Amazonite Shore never had a childhood, she had training and when she was not training she was learning how to run a mob. Weakness was reserved for others, for those who called themselves warriors simply because they believed it would make them one. She knew that a a strong person was not made easily, but built overtime until all people saw was the stone and the strength, not the artist residing inside.

She was fire and rage, not a delicate thing waiting around for someone to do her heavy lifting. She knew that in the end she was all that she really had, she was the only one she could rely on and trust. She had to be the strongest, so she would be.

She hefted the javelin onto her shoulder, feeling the weight of it there. It was not as heavy as she expected it to be, therefore it would not be as hard. She threw the first with a grunt, body turning with the motion of it, arm pushing forward with fingers splayed. She could feel the toll it took on her waist as she turned, but the throw was a success. She could tell by the cheering from the crowd.

A slow grin of pride crept to her lips and she rolled her shoulders backwards, hefting the second javelin up high. She threw again as the cheers filled her ears, growing louder at the farther distance.

Yes, yesterday had not gone well. Today was a different matter.

Circe smirked from the sidelines. It didn't surprise her at all that the Miss Testosterone had thrown hard. Nothing like drugs to steady your arm. But she hadn't quite registered anything about Amazonite, other than her last name. She watched, her humor cooling, focus sharpening. The girl had some skill, and had shown them all up that morning in the sprint. She absolutely could not be allowed to continue to do so.

But Amazonite wasn't the type of person you accused of doping. She'd have to play a longer game with the Shore girl, and she'd have to prove herself a worthy opponent.

Circe plucked a bobby pin from one side of her top bun and then twisted it into the opposite side, rebalancing the pile of gold. She walked like a ballerina, toes first, neck long, back straight. She matched the length and grace of her javelin. It was undoubtedly one of her favorite weapons. She had imagined, as a child, that she would skewer her enemy's stomachs with its pointy end.

Circe looked up at the spire. She tilted it until it pointed directly into the bright sun. The sun that Jamie would never see again. When she sprinted, she thought of skewering the very sun for him.

Nine points short of perfect, her father would say.

And there was nothing he liked to see more than Circe rise, just before falling. She hissed even as the javelin left her hand a second time. She knew it would land embarrassingly short. One more chance to be perfect.

Another day, another event. When I arrived to district four, I held myself with this boisterous sense of confidence. And it's not like I'm doing awful in this competition, but I'm not number one like I thought I'd be. It's a little discouraging but there's still time to make a comeback. I don't do well with mental distraction, and just watching those who  are excelling above me gives me goosebumps. Not the happy goosebumps, either. The javelin is heavy in my hand, I lift it up and down like a weight, to get a good feel for it. These are just like the javelins back home, but I make it a point to take every single thing into consideration before throwing this thing. The weight, the wind, everything. Who knows, the salty air could be working its way towards rusting everything in this stupid district. My mind is brought back to the finale of the 67th, still surprised about both contenders being from district four. I honestly thought that Dan or Tiger would at least make it to the finale. But I suppose it just goes to show that even the best of the best have bad luck. 

I keep letting my mind get off track. This is my problem. I can never focus on the task at hand. So maybe I just need to throw this damn thing. Just throw it and not give a fuck. I'm tired of this stress and worry and miss my confident, bitchy self. I need to bring myself back to normal and maybe to do that I just need to stop giving so many fucks. Just know that I'm the best and let the rest just play out. So I take a deep breathe and throw the javelin, letting all my fucks fly off with it.

Truth be told, Elya had never had much patience for the ranged weapons. They just weren't practical. How stupid would you have to be to throw your weapon away in the middle of a fight? Sure, if you could hit a single moving target in the critical points with just one shot, why not? But suppose there were two enemies charging you, then what? Throw away your only means of defense and hope it's got enough stopping power to take one down? Bah. As if she'd ever be that stupid.

Still, she'd done her due diligence, and, as any good career should, learned to throw. But she'd stopped training with thrown weapons once she'd lost her eye — and with it, her depth perception. It wasn't practical to begin with, but with such a distinct disadvantage, Elya may as well save her enemies the trouble and turn the weapon on herself in battle.

This event, however, was about strength far more than it was about accuracy. She didn't need depth perception to have form, didn't need vision at all to be able to chuck the damn thing across the pitch. And so, not a doubt in her mind, she strode up to the line and she did.
