[Day 5] 4x400m Relay

RUNNING: 4X400M RELAY

Welcome to the 4x400 relay tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character on the starting blocks and running, and then paste the code [*roll=2000+5000] without the asterisks into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a time, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 5000 is read as 50.00 seconds) The times of each competitor on each team will be added up to get the team's total.

The team with the lowest time wins this event. Times for this event will be continually updated on this thread.

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

It's been a few days since the devastating losses. Thankfully it's over, and I can completely forget about it, but I seriously doubt the losses will be taken seriously. Nothing like making it to the Olympics just to lose. People take these things very seriously. I take this very seriously. This is my last shot of getting a medal. Is is my last chance to prove to my father that I'm capable of winning. It's what he wanted, and it's my duty to oblige. Maybe competing in a team event is for the better. The tiny mistakes can be made better by the other members. Teamwork is something I need to learn, and this is the chance to do it. I must represent district four with everything I have. I will not be known as a loser.

I take my place on the line waiting for my turn. I long to show that I am worthy. I will make myself succeed. And finally it's my time. I take of running as fast as I can. I only hope it's enough.

Achilles was at the starting line, ready to begin the race. His heart was pumping. He had miserably failed the last two events he was in and he wasn't going to fail this one. He would be so ashamed if the Williams family didn't get any Medals this year. Winning was Achilles life. He also knew that if he couldn't beat a stupid race then how could he possibly win the Hunger games in his dreams?

He hated the fact that he lost the last two, but he knew now he was going to redeem himself. He would redeem himself in this... group effort. He wanted to win, for the glory of district two. When he got to the starting line the timer started. He got ready to run, and when a whistle blew he took off.

Freestyle.

This was his type of thing, straightforward, little to no effort. But it was the type of swimming that had the most power, you moved faster with every stroke, every beat of your legs. This was the elegant one, the one that filled you with grace and ease as you stretched forwards, and reached into the waters arms before slipping back, and kicking strongly with your legs. The backstroke hadn't gone so well, but then he hadn't expected it to, it wasn't his style. But then, being freestyle he had a better advantage, however working with people he didn't really know wasn't cool. If he had of been swimming with his crew he'd have no trouble at all, but he was forced to compete with people he didn't know, it was the team that made you win a race. He wondered if these people would win it with him.

The beep goes and one of the people on my team dives into the water. I hated team work. I hated people, so hating team work was like a bonus. I watch with a scowl as the guy hits the water his arms propelling him forwards like a snake sliding along the surface. People around me cheered him on, their voices encouraging him to move faster. I am silent, my eyes narrowing as the next person gets ready, their body folded, their eyes watching the water intently.

The person hits the wall and the next one of already in the water and the crowd is howling and I am rolling my eyes because it is so fucking loud and my ears hurt. I takes less than a minute for the next person to be in the water. I a herded by the people who call themselves my team mats onto the start block. I don't lean over like the rest. I stand straight and when I see the persons hands hit the wall I jump into the water, my body propelling forwards, my fingers catching it and dragging me forwards.

The relay. The time when the District come together and do things. I find it sad that the only other time that it happens is when teenagers go to kill each other. Still, I don't care. It would be an honour to represent your district, where ever I am. So here I am. Oh, where ever I can represent, my parents would be proud of me. That is if I don't mess everything up. And then they wouldn't. But y'know, positive mental attitude and all that. So they'll be proud, won't they?

The last time I competed in a running event it didn't go so well. In fact my time was one of the slowest amongst the competitors. This time I've been given another chance to make up for my previous failure in running. Last night, Charbon and I had such a good night that suddenly medaling in the Olympics doesn't mean as much as time with her does. Still I'm signed up and competing will have to occupy some of my time. I'd be ridiculed if I were to skip the event and cause the district to lose. Once it's my turn to run, I take off as fast as possible not caring the results just hoping to get out of the event with as much speed as I can muster.

Her head spun from the amount of blood having spilled that morning. The gash upon her forearm - traced so many times over - was raw and gaping. The bright crimson leaked onto the thick gauze she'd wrapped around her wound. Spirits could not reject her offerings now, she'd given far too much to them. Others were depending on her, and that weighed all the more on her fragile mind. "Please." She kissed the talisman they'd allowed her to bring into the competition. "Why not, all it'll do is weight her down." one of the guards had griped. Little did they know the charm around her neck was to give her the greatest advantage of all... right? 

"Let us crush them." She gave the boy - one who was christened Rex - a smile, clenching her fist and shaking it gently in front of her.

When I said I was going to the Olymics, I probably should've backed it up with more than one event instead of just relay. In all honesty, I didn't want to go to the Olympics at all, mostly I came just to say I was in them. Plus, I wasn't gonna miss out on getting my face where it belonged, all over Panem. Just imagine it: Fiona Royce, 100% gold medalist. I can do it, get nothing but gold medals, considering I only have one chance to mess up, but that's still more than what the rest of these spin-outs can say for themselves. Of course, all I have to do is run, which is like, something I've been doing since I was a child.

All of my teammates were ratchet. Ratchet, but capable, so despite them not being able to make the suit make their tits look as great as mine, I guess there's still a little hope. My bun though, it's pretty snazzy at the moment, as I take my spot at the block it's what I'm thinking about. That and how great it'll contrast with the gold about to be placed on my chest.

Panting, I come over the final stripe and I swear the bags under my eyes were weighing me down or something (but seriously, what's up with my bags right now, irrelevant but these suckers are insane). My chest in heaving to the beat of my heart in my ears, but I can barely feel it under my time 60.67. "Oh, hell yeah," barely over a minute, that shit's my jam. "See," shouting over to one of my teammates, one of the ones who brought down our score, "that's how that's done."

[LOL NOT SWIMMING IGNORE THAT.] Running seems to be something I'm good at, in more than one way. I've been running since the day I was born. I can never get too far, though. I'm always being pulled back, back, back into the drugged warmth of my brother. No matter how far I go, no matter how fast, I always wind up back where I started again. I can't fight it in the end. He is everything I am and always will be. It didn't even matter when I went to the detention center. No, I would up right back within the circle of his arms, clinging to him like a child, believing in him like a child. I have to grow up now. I can't do this forever. I've hardly seen him my entire time here, and now I know why. Kaiser Fray's wandering hands were enough to give me the answer to my questions. Despite it all, despite how utterly unsurprising it is, I feel the crack of that betrayal in my heart, the mirror shattering all over again. We will never change, Tyrannus and I. We're stuck. I'm the last leg of our relay, the final burst off of the line, and I wait and watch as the others do their part. My mind is elsewhere, but I feel the tension in my muscles like I'm a yo-yo spun tight. I need to fall just to feel good again. Not now, but tonight.
