Name: Jaycen Shade
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Appearance: Jaycen never cared about his looks, until he realized they could be leverage to get what he wants. He has taken a liking to playing the gentleman, and always dresses in dark colors to complement his personality. He takes care of himself, for the sole purpose of having the ability to persuade. He cuts his own dark black hair, but because he is not the best at it, it tends to have a choppy look to it. He has high cheekbones, deep emerald eyes and never more than a slight stubble on his chin, for he hates facial hair.
He is abnormally tall, with pale white skin. On the rare occasion that his arms aren't covered, long, white scars are barely visible along them. He won't say where they come from, but he shows such contempt towards self-harm that everyone who knows him assumes they came from somewhere else. He is thin, and slightly muscular; thought he has always been a brain over brawn kind of person. He openly shows distaste for revealing clothing; nobody has ever seen Jaycen with less than a shirt on.
Personality: Looking the part is never enough to convince: Jaycen also has to be the gentleman. He sways wills with his articulate words, his slight accent captivating. This is the Jaycen that we can see in public, making him quite likable. But this polite mask is just that; this is nothing but a tool he uses to manipulate and achieve. Over the years, however, this face has become a part of him. A more innocent part of Jaycen wishes that this was him, but he knows that, with his dark history, that it is all but possible.
On the extremely rare occasion that Jaycen is in a good mood, he can be quite entertaining. When he isn't playing the gentleman, his vocabulary can turn quite nasty; profanities are abundant. He really doesn't care what people think of him at this point, for with the life he lives, "good moods" seldom occur. A few friends are acceptable, but he always keeps things simple with them. He particularly enjoys making people feel like shit, and thrives in talking trash. Mostly, he doesn't mean to hurt people...mostly.
If he chooses to show his true colors, Jaycen is calm, cold and calculating. He never misses a single detail, and he can and will capitalize on every mistake a hostile makes, enabling him to come out on top of any altercation. He is always able to get what he wants, he can alter his persona to flatter even the most difficult of people. Every single thing he does, no matter the face he is wearing, is for personal gain. He inherited his parents genius, and formed his own morals. Nothing is impossible in Jaycen's mind, and failure isn't an option. His relentless pursuit of perfection makes him believe that he can win every battle, solve any riddle; the only thing necessary is the correct playing of the cards.
History: Specializing in pharmaceutical genetics, two wealthy, nameless geniuses are the parents of young prodigy Jaycen Shade. Neither cared for Jaycen, in their eyes, he was only the heir to their growing business. They schooled him in everything possible, making him smarter than average. Though he was seldom home, his father taught Jaycen how to dress and how to speak and, most importantly, how to make people give him what he wants. When he was a young boy, this thought disgusted him, but now he uses it to his advantage. He grew up very lonely, but this was hardly what made him the darkened man he is today.
The night that changed Jaycen's life remains a mystery to most everyone in District Six and in the Capitol, it is suspected only he knows what occurred inside of his house when his parents lives ended. The next morning, Peacekeepers found his mother dead in the bedroom and his father dead on the doorsteps of their home; 10-year-old Jaycen was nowhere to be seen. People have asked Jaycen later why he fled, as he would have seemed very suspicious. He has since pleaded innocent, and has explained his reasoning for deserting the scene. Aside from the emotional trauma of waking up to his dead parents, he also didn't want to be part of them. While it hurt to see them lifeless, he didn't really love them, and he knew that staying would bind him to them closely to them and their legacy for many years. He also left because he wanted to make his own life, and he never wanted to admit that he needed his parents' money or an orphanage's shelter to survive. There was an investigation of how his parents died and Jaycen's whereabouts, and one thing was proven for sure: Jaycen was not in any way the killer. A butcher knife was found near his father's cold body, with an array on finger prints on it, none of them being Jaycen's. The prints were tested, and four different results came up: one was matched to his father, one matched to his mother, and the other two, to this day, still remain at large. Jaycen hid for three years, and not a soul could find him or knew where he was. Jaycen then went completely public with where he was and where he had been. His place of refuge was the most unlikely of them all: the slums of District Six.
Jaycen has spoken with authorities many a time about what happened in his home that night. "Unfortunately, I cannot help you with your investigation. I am indeed not the murderer, for I was sound asleep; I woke up next morning to my parents bleeding their lives out onto the floor. The events that transpired that night are as much a mystery to you as they are to me." Jaycen expresses this without any emotion, and people who know him better would be able to hear that slight smirk in his voice that suggests he knows a little more than he claims. Aside from the murder, the questions of how he stayed hidden have also frequented among these reporters. "Even if I wasn't exactly in my right mind at the time, I knew when I fled that a search would be put out for me and I did not want to be found. So or the first two months after I, ah, vacated my home, I lived in the sewer, only coming out for food just before dawn. Said food was obtained from middle classed people's waste bins, and it would often make me hurl. I wouldn't eat for days on an end, but for me, it was worth it." As for his life in the slums, Jaycen was completely lost when he surfaced from the sewer. He knew he had to find shelter so he made a friend. He found an old woman digging through trash and he approached her, asking her if she knew of a place that he could stay, promising to make it worth her while. Her name was Esmeralda Gonzales, and her heart melted when she saw him. All of her children had died of hunger, so she insisted that she would take care of him. Jaycen resisted, but eventually gave in. She didn't recognize him, though, for he was skinny and looked like death. She never learned his name, so she called him Jacián, the name of one of her late children. After a year of living with Esmeralda, he started to take care of her, holding true to his promise. He became well-respected, and eventually some people in the slums came to discover who he was but none revealed it. He had gained their confidence by being calm, polite and helping whoever he possibly could, so they respected his secret. They were also somewhat impressed, people of his previous social status normally scorned upon those of the slums, but Jaycen was one of the few gentlemen to ever live a life of modesty. And for his sudden decision to make his whereabouts public; that is another decision for Jaycen to know and us to find out. "Why I revealed myself after 3 and a half years? Oh, I just knew the time was right."
