D1 - LETS GET FREAKY [AHS PLOT] - OPEN!

There is a place where nightmares lie and the frightening gather. There is place where only the bravest venture; where the disfigured make their home. This is a place of chaos, yes, but also a place of intrigue and mystery.

The Freak Show lies on the outskirts of District One in an old field that proper society has long-since abandoned. Only two types of people venture here: the fabulously wealthy seeking entertainment (or more often not, destruction), and the rejected, broken eccentrics hoping for a second chance. These people come from all walks of life. Some come from rich parents too ashamed to present them to the public. Others seemed to have crawled out of the very shadows that cloak the earth. Regardless of their origins, however, each of them has one thing in common: they are beautifully insane and incredibly strange.

They live a carnival life. They take pleasure in the business of entertaining bored careers and wealthy associates. And they use their stage to lure in entertainment that is far bigger than their own individual talents.

In this show, there are no rules...and there certainly aren't any morals.

Welcome to the FREAK SHOW

All freaks are welcome! If you want to apply, simply choose a character below or make up your own (must include the quality that makes them a "freak", a very brief backstory, and any ideas you might have) and apply. This is not first come, first serve. I will be looking at your apps very carefully. Please don't just use the character descriptions to make your character. I want to see some creativity here! This is supposed to be a very fun plot, and it can be very large if people are interested. If you have a good ideas for a freak not described below, I'll probably approve you, Obviously you can make these characters tribute eligible if you want. I'm not too picky, I just want to see people have some fun! Also I realize there is already a circus plot in D2. I want this one to be different, so please try to refer to that thread and try not to repeat their abilities. Keep in mind that these characters are insane, and are more readily murderers. So while their abilities are important, and I want to see some details, your focus should be on how these abilities play into their sadistic tendencies (and yes they can be in denial, if that's what you desire). May the freaks be ever in your favor. >

REMEMBER: THE MAIN DIFFERENCE IS THAT THIS CIRCUS IS AN ELABORATE COVER FOR MURDER AND VIOLENCE. WE ARE NOT JUST "FREAKS" HERE, WE ARE INSANE, PSYCHO, AMERICAN HORROR STORY-ESQUE FREAKS.

The Cast

ELSA MARS - AKA "ISOLDE VASSKA" - 18 - QUEEN OF THE SHOW - PLAYED BY MEGHAN
"Elsa" comes from a wealthy career family whose greatest desire was that she would go into the games and bring them glory. This star-crazed wannabe had different plans, however, and decided that show business was the career for her. This always caused conflict in her honor-seeking family. "Elsa" often felt rejected and unloved because of their cruel behavior. When she lost the lower half of each of her legs in a freak accident at the age of 14, her family lost all interest in her and abandoned her in the streets to die. "Elsa" never tells anyone how she survived after that, and instead mostly just pretends that she doesn't have a deformity. Thankfully before her family got rid of her, they bought her a pair of shiny wooden legs. Today she lives in the Freak Camp and oversees the whole show. She loves everyone who is considered a misfit, a freak, or an animal and hates everyone else. Her love of money, however, outweighs her bitterness against what she considers "high society", and she is willing to sell tickets to the wealthiest people within the district. Only to provide a whole separate kind of entertainment of course... After all, Mama Bear always provides for her cubs. No matter what the cost.

MAGGIE ESMERELDA - AKA "HALLOW OSIRIS" - AGE? - FORTUNE TELLER - PLAYED BY LALIA
"Maggie" likes to mess with people. She claims she is a fortune teller, but really she just uses this cover as an excuse to get people to a) get ridiculous amounts of money out of them and b) reveal their darkest secrets. Unlike the other freaks, "Maggie" doesn't have much interest in murdering the people she victimizes. Instead "Maggie" likes to slowly drive her victims to their own suicides by taking their secrets and manipulating their lives in such a way to drive them to insanity. Hide yo wives, hide yo kids, and hide yo husbands too because nobody is safe with this con artist around.

SALEM - AKA "SALEM" - 18 - FORTUNE TELLER/WITCH - PLAYED BY ELEGANT

DESIREE DUPREE - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - THREE-BREAST WONDER -PLAYED BY ?
From a young age, "Desiree" always made her money through prostitution. After all, what real use does a three-breasted women have in this world? "Desiree" quickly grew bitter of her poor father's rule over her (he was the one who sent her into the streets in the first place), and murdered him in the dead of night. She has since fled to the Freak Camp in hope of starting anew and leaving her past behind.

JIMMY DARLING - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - MUTATED HANDS - PLAYED BY ?
Jimmy, and his mother Ethel, have always been outcasts in the society. Jimmy was born with deformed hands, aka 'lobster claws', and could never get women to fall for his down-to-earth charm. He can get them to fall... in other ways, however. When not performing, Jimmy lends is hands out to the benefit of wealthy women. He still feels horribly bitter towards the majority of society, however, as they scorn him and call him a freak on a regular basis. He's not against taking things into his own 'hands', if you will...and he certainly is known for losing his temper now and again.

ETHEL DARLING - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? (must be 40+) - BEARDED LADY - PLAYED BY ?
"Ethel" is not generally prone to violence. She was cast out of society at the onset of puberty due to the whiskers that sprouted on her chin. She's not afraid to be herself, however, and in fact is rather proud of her beard. She thinks it's what makes her truly different from the rest of the world. She's not particularly violent, but isn't opposed to forcing her son to make them money. If "Ethel" could be described as anything, it is that she is the grandmother of the group. She loves each of the freaks, and dotes upon them constantly. And she reveres "Elsa" above all others.

STANLEY - AKA NICABAR "STANLEY" GYPSY - 18 - CON ARTIST/THEIF - PLAYED BY GHOSTY
"Stanley" is an enigma to the rest of the group. He's not particularly loud, and he's not particularly talented. He doesn't really have a talent that he can represent on stage. In fact, nobody know what makes him a freak. He just decided one day that he liked it at the camp, and has never left since. Some say he's up to something. Others think he is just looking for company. "Stanley" certainly is the most mysterious of the group, and he likes it that way.

Ghosty's description: Basically, the con artist of the group likes, first and foremost, his privacy. His relatively short life of eighteen years has been hard on him, which left him out of the career centers and onto the streets. Then the camp came around, and he felt he had a place again in the world. His main "talent" is theft, which can't really be shown on stage. He's in the crowds, and he steals valubles from the visitors. He loves this, and has mastered this trough his life on the street. Although he is basically backstaff, he's not uncommon to the main link to the group; murder. He isn't a freak as such, but is treated as one, now that his home is with them.

DANDY MOTT - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - FREAK-WANNA-BE - PLAYED BY ?
"Dandy" isn't a freak so much as he is a wannabe. He thinks the residents of the camp are his personal play things, and more than once has offered to buy them as human-size toys. He has a particular obsession with "Dot and Bette Tattler", and hopes to win them as his own one day. Mostly, "Dandy" is just incredibly bored with his high-profile, socialite life and desires to have an actual role in society. Unfortunately, this leads him highly vulnerable to manipulation, especially from a certain, wide-smiled clown...

GLORIA MOTT - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? (40+) - FREAK-WANNA-BE - PLAYED BY ?
"Gloria" loves her boy "Dandy" and would do absolute anything for him. Including buying him his toys, no matter what the cost for her. She wants her child to have the best, and will stop at nothing to get it for him. She despises the freaks, but will humor them for the sake of her precious son.

DELL TODELO - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - STRONGMAN - PLAYED BY ?
"Dell" is power-hungry and determined to usurp "Jimmy." He is one of the strongest careers that District One has ever seen, and he only hangs out with the freaks because he thinks he can control them.

BETTE TATTLER - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - CONJOINED TWIN - PLAYED BY ?
"Dot" and "Bette Tattler" think themselves as innocent. Their mother hid them for the majority of their life because of their appearance. On the outside, they look like one girl with two heads. On the inside, they couldn't be more different. "Bette" is starstruck and hopes to be in the spotlight one day. TWISTY THE CLOWN - AKA "ARIK" - 18 - MURDEROUS CLOWN - PLAYED BY KOUSEI
"Twisty" doesn't belong to the freak show, but he does spend a frequent amount of time on their camp. Occasionally, a freak or two shows up missing, but nobody knows who is behind their disappearance. "Twisty" lives a few miles away from the camp, in a run-down school bus. Sometimes, late at night, visitors to the surrounding woods can hear screaming and sobbing coming from the vicinity of his lair. Nobody dares to visit him, however. It may be the last thing they do.

PEPPER - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - MICROCEPHALY - PLAYED BY ?
It was easy to tell that there was something wrong with Pepper from an early age. She suffers from a medical condition that makes her head smaller than average. As a result, she is not the brightest crayon in the box. She's easily manipulated, and goes along with others schemes simply because they are paying attention to her. She never knew what it was like to be loved until she ran away from home to join the Freak Show.


THE GEEK - AKA "WREN PAUL" - 12 - EATS THE HEADS OF ANIMALS - PLAYED BY AILERA
The Geek is the youngest member of the show, and perhaps the most disturbing. His greatest pleasure is biting off the heads of animals...while they are still alive. Rumor has it, animals aren't the only thing he eats... The Geek otherwise appears normal, but once you get to know him he may be the weirdest freak of all.

MA PETITE - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - EXTREMELY TINY - PLAYED BY ?
Ma Petite is far smaller than the average human. There is no way to measure if she is the smallest women alive, but she certainly looks like it compared to the rest of the camp. She acts like a small child the majority of the time, demanding to be carried from place to place. She's not actually violent, and is only with the Freak Show because she can't fit in anywhere else.


AMAZON EVE - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - EXTREMELY TALL - PLAYED BY ?
The first thing you have to know about "Amazon Eve" is that she wasn't born a girl. She's actually transgendered, and has identified as a female from an early age. Her parents rejected her the minute they found out this secret, and so she ran away to find a crowd who would accept her no matter what. "Amazon Eve"'s greatest advantage is her height. At 7 feet tall, she towers above everyone else.

LEGLESS SUZI - AKA "SUZETTE 'LILY' MOREAU" - 20-30 - LEGLESS - PLAYED BY ARX
"Legless Suzi" is a perfectly functioning girl, other than the fact that she doesn't have any legs. Her parents decided to get them amputated at the age of three because they were highly deformed. Unlike the other freaks, "Legless Suzi" comes from a loving and caring family. She still visits them on occasion, but she prefers to hangout with the freaks because they are the only ones who truly understand her. Like "Ma Petite", Legless isn't particularly violent. She sticks around the camp because she hopes to bring the other freaks back to reality.


PAUL THE ILLUSTRATED SEAL - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - PHOCOMELIA IN BOTH ARMS - PLAYED BY ?
"Paul the Illustrated Seal" is loyal only to the Freak Show. Most of society has laughed at him because he can't properly control a weapon, and his arms are incredibly tiny. He has a powerful kick, however, and prides himself in his ability to murder despite his special abilities. Paul thinks of himself as tougher than the other freaks, and has decorated his body from the neck down with violent tattoos.


EDWARD MORDRAKE - AKA "NAME HERE" - AGE? - TWO-FACED MAN - PLAYED BY ?"Edward" is a man with two sides. For the most part, he is kind and gentle and loyal to those who are nice to him. On the other hand...or should we say...the other face, he has a horrible temper and the tendency to slaughter anyone who makes him angry. "Edward" has two faces. One in the front, and one sticking out of the back of his head. Nobody has been able to confirm it, but it's rumored that his backward face whispers evil things to him in the dead of night, prompting his murderous sprees.

Name: Hi, my name is Lalia and the whole world knew I would be all over this even though that other aforementioned plot has my name on it, roflll. There is no such thing as too much circustastic awesomeness.

Freak Wanted: Maggie Esmerelda

Freaky Name: Hallow Osiris, but during the witching hour you'd better call her Mademoiselle... or else.

Freaky Ideas: The rich know how to keep their dirty little secrets and if they can't... they know how to hide them away in unfindable places. Hallow was the Osiris family's living, breathing secret for more than a decade, locked away in a house big enough to hold just about anything, including the twisted darkness of a child's smile. Mrs. Osiris never knew how the idea of witches and magic wormed its way into her daughter's head. It was as if the idea had grown there, the remnant of a persistent nightmare that refused to run from the daylight. By the time Hallow was four, she swore she could see the future in the shadows of her mother's gaping mouth and that a lurking spirit haunted her every word with secrets to be told. It was strange enough that the parents decided home schooling was the only option for keeping her away from high society gossip.

It was enough to simply reign the darkness in behind closed doors until Hallow turned thirteen and unlucky. Strange mutterings and claims of ghosts glimpsed within the prismatic reflections off the crystal glasses during supper were one thing, but then Hallow's fascination with blood magic began and her little sister was all too gullible. When their father came home to discover the youngest girl's hand sliced open — blood and "all the secrets of her future" spilling out for Hallow to see, it became too much. Hallow was disowned in a fit of cursing and bruises, to be sent away immediately and never seen again.

That was half right. Never to be seen again, she ran away and her parents didn't go looking for her. She found the carnival of horrors like finding fate and not only was her fortune telling praised instead of damned for the first time, but the darker her tongue twisted, the more she belonged. Too well she knew the deepest fears of the wealthy souls who wandered into her tent, tugging the darkness up and out their own throats with little more than a side-eyed glance rimmed with too much kohl. Money and secrets flutter like dying butterflies at her feet, but there are nights too dark for even the stars to peek out from the sky, when she unleashes her predictions like hell hounds set loose. The sound of frantic footfalls echo as her victims flee from her tent, more desperate to escape their own lives than they are to escape the demon whispering terrible warnings about what's really chasing them.

Hallow sees their deaths before they happen... and they always do. She makes sure of it.

Face Claim: I have a couple ideas and a particular favorite, I think. Ngl. Top three favorites for her are all Korean, rofllll. I'll line up example pics and PM you. Whoops, the first girl I was thinking of was claimed recently, but that's alright, the next on my list is just as fabulous. (I still have a couple of alternatives in mind, if you'd prefer a different FC, but otherwise I'm pretty stuck on this girl now.)

Additional Info: - Crazy cat lady, with a dozen or so stray cats wandering freely around her tent basically all the time. She probably feeds them screams and souls, nbd.

- Her little sister has figured out where she is after years of being MIA and drops by every now and then, still dangerously fascinated with Hallow's... talents. One of Hallow's own secrets is that she's protective of her little sister and scared of what will happen if she keeps hanging around the carnival, so she does her best to scare her off and act as though she doesn't miss her at all and as though she even despises her a little. She threatens to feed her to the cats and she spits snake words and snaps her teeth, but her sister keeps coming more and more often. And Hallow is terrified, but as if she'll admit it. (I'd be up for the sister being added to the plot if you/someone wanted? Ripred knows I love sibling plottage.)

- Shameless flirt, but in a hilariously twisted way, cat calling the other carnival workers and the occasional customer with lines about how much fun she'd have tying them up or how she bets their blood would be the prettiest shade of red she's ever seen. The ensuing giggle of a teenaged girl may soften her aggressively dark edges, but it certainly doesn't disperse them. Who's to tell if it's all a messed up joke to her or if she's being serious?

- Obviously she's pretty messed up from her family drama and the way she gets a kick out of pushing people into suicide is probably her living vicariously through them in a way, as if they are different versions of the future she might have had if she wouldn't have run away.

- She prefers to work during the witching hour (midnight), swearing she's most in touch with the spirits during that time, working under the vague stage name of "Mademoiselle" or Madam for short, if someone is trying to be cheeky with her. She doesn't let on that she's an Osiris very often, especially to customers, preferring to maintain an over-dramatic performance of witchy anonymity. The last thing she wants is for her parents to change their minds and come looking for her.

- Uhhhhhh, more that I forgot because I keep getting distracted by other ideas. I'll keep adding, probably.

Freaky Ideas: Wren's a lot older in his head. In his head, he talks all the time, but to everyone else, he hasn't had a conversation in six years. His communication comes in mumbled fragments and the occasional outburst. Then, he knows how to stay clear out of the way until everything's over, so he can enjoy everyone else's consequences. Size and age mean nothing at all when he doesn't even need to plan. The others know exactly what they think he's up to when he starts following them around. No, he wouldn't hurt those people. Its the ones they hurt he's after. He wants what's left over.

Wren wants control, and he finds it with his disturbing act. When he holds the little creatures in his hands he sees something different. He sees his opportunity for someone to know what he's capable of. Wren loves rumors. He's not afraid of anyone knowing, because so far no one wants to believe it. So when he's in his corner, doing his own thing, he doesn't mean to be so easily ignored. No, he can wait. Until he's older. Until he can do it himself.

Additional Info: I don't know if that made sense. Basically, he doesn't personally kill anything besides animals. He's really good at catching things like birds and rats, but its more of a distraction for him. Also, he sneaks around to eavesdrop on them a lot, and when he catches on someone might be dying soon, he'll start to follow one of them from a distance. Then he... to the body. You know. Only a little of it. I'll elaborate more in the bio.

Freaky Ideas:

They look exactly the same, Siamese twins connected by a single body and maybe a single mind but he's never really had the chance to check that part out - never really wanted to, if he's honest. Like some kind of freak they whisper to each other with eyes wide and staring into the world - and Zayden's twin wants a name so he calls him Ned as a child - Ned Moraine, and suddenly it's like Ned has a mind of his own.

The first time they argue Ned takes control of Zayden's body, locking him rigid and causing him to have a fit on the floor; he'd almost bitten his tongue off and Ned snapped that maybe it's for the better - that they're idiots, that they're freaks who shouldn't live. And when Zayden insists that they have a purpose Ned says, "You hear their laughter but you never look back to see why." 

(Ned gets stronger and now when they fight Zayden cannot remember parts of his own life like he's never been there at all.

But sometimes if he thinks hard enough he can picture their terror, their screams - and his own hands holding their life like a tangible thing.

In the night, Ned whispers darkness into his mind.

Zayden still has nightmares from the very first time.)

Additional Info: Edward will go by 'Edward' to all the other freaks. Zayden is the name that Ned calls him to sort of 'bring back his past' in a way, to try and justify Ned's actions when he kills (or somehow convinces Edward to kill people in his name haha).

I'd picture Edward as twenty-four, but with the mindset of a teenager.

Freaky Ideas: Okay so obviously there is something seriously wrong with this guy. I'm thinking this guy has a horrible case of psychosis. He's quite disconnected from reality. He has constant delusions and hallucinations, the voices mostly tell him what to do and more often than not they're something completely disturbing such as compulsively maiming people which he has now come to find amusing (acting like a clown, get it). In his mind these hallucinations tell him what do do and in his mind they're completely real, he can't distinguish between them and reality anymore. He feels no empathy or guilt for what he does; in fact if asked why he would simply say 'I was just following orders' and that would be that.

He's would be about 18 so he can live by himself because he's not a minor. His surname used to be Raine, so Arik Raine. He was born into wealthy parents with brothers and sisters etc. But he was so fucking weird that he was just so isolated, he had no friends and he didn't do particularly well in school. The only thing he really enjoyed was career training, and if there was one redeeming quality about him it's that he was very funny, he had a biggest sense of humour in his class and was always interested in the art of comedy. He learned how to juggle anything such us balls, pinballs and even more serious things such as knives.

As he grew older and older his sense of humour eventually began to get very disturbing, he even found maiming people very amusing and eventually he became known as the class weirdo. And as his hallucinations and delusions got worse he began to fail be able to distinguish reality from his imagination. He began maiming things for kicks, he even 'accidentally' seriously wounded someone so bad they died from their wounds in the hospital. His family certainly didn't help, in their eyes he was slowly becoming a disgrace to the Raine name, barely being able to take anything seriously and even buying himself clown clothes and a mask. When questioned he clearly stated that 'I simply have to do as I was told, why wouldn't I? It's amusing to do.' He is 'told' to do these horrible things to people and finds it very amusing afterwards so he really is willingly doing this.

However, when he turned seventeen things changed. He was having a particularly bad hallucination episode and this just happened to be the time when his older sister thought she could get kicks from making fun of him. He was clearly delusional and one of them told him to end her life and he attempted to do just that. He took the kitchen knife and attacked her, managing to remove a finger before his parents burst in. The sight of the severed finger and blood on the floor sent him into another laughing fit and his parents decided enough was enough.

They kicked him out with only his clothes and he left the house. He eventually managed to come across an old run down school bus and stayed there, he actually managed to make it quite cosy and comfortable and it wasn't long before he discovered the freaks. He gravitated towards them but never truly considered himself one of them, he even took to wearing his clown costume and mask most of the time which fit in perfectly with the whole circus thing.

But his hallucinations and delusions still followed him all over the place and he even started taking it further, kidnapping people unfortunate people that just happened to walk by and started maiming/killing them, partly because his hallucinations told him to do so and partly for his sick and twisted amusement.

Freaky Ideas: (Age: 20>30 idk) Having been raised by such an understanding, loving, caring family, Suzi doesn't have much of reason to hate the rest of the world or carry around a lot of bitterness. She is generally cheerful and very much embraces her leglessness (meaning yes, despite being a bit reserved about the sadistic tendencies of the others, she is 100% invested in the shows) - though she still can't help cringing at the word "cripple" - and goes above and beyond by designing her own prosthetic legs when she has the time and materials. (Personal favorite? A single fin she created so she could become a mermaid.) But living in Panem where no one seems to have enough of anything, Suzi is often confined to a wheelchair.

But there is a dark side of Suzi that even she is unaware of, though she is aware of her frequent blackouts. There has only been one occasion that she has "woken up" covered in blood, but because she had been younger, she had written off the memory of it as a close encounter with red paint. But she is still aware that she loses a bit of time - minutes, hours, days - it is sometimes hard for Suzi to tell. It is only in this blacked out state that Suzi ever turns violent. But she does not realize this herself. She recognizes that she blacked out and worries about what happens during this time, but she doesn't think anything of it, seeing as nothing ever really comes of it.

Only her sister knows exactly what she does, having come home to see Suzi disemboweling the family dog in the backyard. And because her sister is a self-proclaimed mute nothing ever became of the sight. Suzi has no recollection of this event and her parents are unaware and so life goes on.

Suzi realizes her parents are super supportive, but she also realizes that they can never truly understand, no matter how hard they try. And so, she immersed herself in the Freak Show and the members of the show. And of course she strives to instill all the self-pride she has found within herself upon the other freaks of the world and "fix" those who have found solace in causing pain and suffering in others. She'd rather not live her life with a bunch of psychopaths, unknowingly turning into one on a fairly regular basis.

Freaky Ideas: He is the black sheep of the family. He's the odd one out. For years, he's honed his own skills in private, afraid of ridicule and rejection among his peers, but in the sanctitiy of his own home and living space, he's always been free to act upon his own abilities and talents as he sees fit. As for his family, they're all normal. They can't bend the way he does. They aren't able to mold themselves into tiny areas, and still breath and function as a normal being. They cannot dislocate their limbs to fit through small spaces and then be put back together. They can't, but Cyder can.
