The first thing they teach you as a career student, is to never underestimate your opponent. Why? Just by underestimating you have already gained a nothing but a big head. By judging your opponent on how big they are, how they move what they look like, you have already put the idea in your head that you will win. But what if they can weld a sword better than you, shoot an arrow straighter than you, can hit harder than you, are more flexible than you.
Dallas knew what it was like to be underestimated. He understood it. He was the one underestimated. He was the one that was smaller, standing just under a foot of all the other career boys. He was weaker not having all the muscular features the other boys had. Yes he had muscles, but when your opponents arm is twice the size of yours, well, you are the one underestimated.
He liked the fact that he didn't look like the other career boys, and that he really didn't fit in. He had friends outside the training center. And they liked the fact that he died his hair, and is in trend with the latest styles. He liked the fact that he wasn't buff, and was smaller, because he could wear the designer clothes that the other guys wouldn't even consider wearing. He liked the fact that he was a little feminine, because he actually cared about his appearance. The fact that he wore makeup, was a statement in it's self. Even though he had an odd look for a career, deep down he was never one.
The second thing they teach you is trust and loyalty. Why? To succeed you need to trust yourself, and be loyal to yourself. If you don't trust yourself you can not overcome. If you can not be loyal to yourself, you can never trust yourself. Simple.
Dallas not only learnt to to trust and to be loyal to himself, but he also learnt to trust others and to build a relationship based off loyalty. After all, you never will a war with no one helping you fight. By having others around you, you have already won the fight. Because they make the fight worth it, win or lose.
The third thing you learn is to create a history about your self. One that will be remembered well after you have gone. Weather it be true or not, having a history that moves people, and puts them on your side will also be a benefit.
But thats the thing, Dallas had a basic history. He was a normal boy, living in district one. There was nothing special about him.
He was a typical boy, loved getting dirty and wrestling, and acting out his favorite fights for the games he had watched. He had friends and family that loved him and wanted to be around him. He had it made in the shade.
The most significant thing that happened to him wasn't really significant at all. Or at least in District One. When he was nine, he started showing true potential of a tribute. He had the requirements they said. And the district training center wanted him to join. Which was normal, but not for someone under the age of eleven.
His parents jumped on the I'm a career parent bandwagon, and the rest was history. They knew their little boy would one day be a victor, or as Dallas saw it a murder. Because in order to win you had to kill, or that was what he was taught.
When he was eleven, tragedy struck his family when he was stabbed in the back by one of the older career kids. The kid had always had it out for Dallas, and he made it known that he didn't like him. He even threaten Dallas over and over. He would say things like. “If we were in the arena together, I'd kill you first. Just cuz you are a little shit.” This guy almost ended Dallas' life.
But Dallas was a fighter, he would never let anyone get the better half. He was a fighter, and he proved that everyday after, showing people that just because he was smaller, and not as strong, he could still do what ever it was he set his mind to.
His parents wanted to pull him out of training and put him back in regular school, But Dallas refused. He had a bone to pick with that boy. Had he wanted to prove that he was knocked down, and he had taken the fall. But he was on the raise, that he could come back, and be better than he was and better than any before hi had ever been. He was Dallas Warren. And his name was going to be knownName | Dallas Warren
