THIRD GIFT!
This is a one-shot I wrote from Saffron's POV during/after Leon's Games focusing on him, since we didn't get to do any VT threading </3

Finales are bittersweet.
If I'm honest, I never really paid attention to him. My mind was racing with Darius and Marianne Darius and Marianne, and when the girl fell within seconds of the Games' start to Darius' hands I began to crumble, slowly, as I always do. Darius Darius Darius was all that I could process. Darius Darius Darius Darius-
And then Darius was dead..:.
In the arena there's too many faces to focus on. I can't keep up. Fight after fight after fight. Faces on the screen. Faces on the dusty ground. Faces in the night sky.
A blonde streak flies past in the background of chaos.
I wonder how far he'll make it..:.
"Final two" was all I heard whispered through the Capitol.
"Final two, final two, they're always the best." If I was sick in the head I might take that as a compliment.
I asked for their names, their Districts. If we're going to be taking them home I want to know their names. "Leon and Siren," some colourful character shrieks in delight. "Both from District Four! They're finally going to have a victor, how wonderful!"
Only one corpse sent back home this year.

He seems oddly calm. Then again, he's not a 14 year old girl. He killed one, two, three, probably more. Far more than I ever could. His demeanor is tall, clothes damp and hair glistening in the desert heat. All eyes are on him as he slips the knife into his District partner's heart. A canon fires. I sink back into my seat: it's over. Thank fuck. It's finally over.
Nothing happens for a while. I wonder if he knows that he's won or if he thinks he's dead too. He climbs to the roof and tilts his head back to the sun and I wonder if he wants to float away like all the lost souls in that terrible place. Weightless, like air, yet strung to the earth for eternity. Perhaps one day I'll teach him how to live on the ground.
And then I watch him, pressing the knife to the edge of his throat. I lurch forward to snatch him away from the screen, my insides screaming "No!" - but I understand. Somehow. Even though I wanted to live, even though I screamed and screamed and screamed because I was alive and the whole arena shattered against my skin. I wanted to live so badly it burned. I guess some want to die like that, too.
My fingers don't reach him but the metal ones do instead..:.
When I arrived all I wanted was to speak but my freezing, arctic mouth wouldn't let me. The others helped me. They were patient, and loving, and kind. They understood. I walked through a world where everyone was afraid to speak up and I consumed their silence. Still, I felt loved here. Cared for. Maybe because I was small. Maybe they felt sorry for me.
I don't feel sorry for Leon Krigel. Instead, I understand.
And I want to reach out and hug him, like I did to Colgate. I want to tell him that it will be okay. But somehow I can't. My teeth are chattering again. The winter has returned. Each time I pass him I want to reach out and let him know, but I can't, and it drives me mad. I think it's because he scares me.
I watch him with interest regardless..:.
It's easy to sneak through the Victor quarters at night. It's difficult to write with a hand you've ignored for most of you life. I can pick things up and throw a ball and clap with the hand they gave me, but intricate things like picking up a pencil - important things - they're the biggest challenge. Lately it seems that the little things in life like writing and speaking I seem to struggle with the most.
I find his room after searching for a while. The night is silent, like myself, and I find it oddly comforting. I'm not brave enough to say hello but I am brave enough to slip a piece of paper clutched in my hand underneath his door.
I hope he knows.
