Appearance:
Carina is, to put it simply, a well built, well made woman. Some of the finest in so called naturalistic work: tall without being abnormal, lean without being grotesque, fey without being too inhuman, all the hottest trends in her end of the city. Conventionally attractive even as an infant, the body modifications started early: first the tooth straightening, and later, skin and hair coloring, then enhancement after enhancement until she found herself as she is today.
She's always been a tall person, and Carina hits the charts at just over five feet, eleven now, and nearly all leg without a single spare ounce of flesh. Even her female attributes are on the negligible side, and that's absolutely perfect as far as Carina cares. The rock hard muscles have softened with time, but she remains healthy and athletic with a carefully orchestrated fitness regimen.
Carina enjoys dressing in shades of gold, bronze, copper, ivory and amber, with the occasional green, pink, or black for contrast, generally with a great deal of soft, sheer organzas or glossy satins. Carina's style is simple, but luxurious, involving exotic and high end fabrics in rich colors, and strong, classic shapes instead of gimmicks and fads; she won't be dying her hair pink, or adding animatronic butterfly bows to her shoes anytime soon. Her skin tone is a warm amber and flawless-so long as everything below the knee is ignored-and made ever so slightly more shimmery golden by medical enhancement. Carina's hair falls in a dark, bronzy lion's mane down her back. She's tried most of her life to gain some sort of control over the wild curls, and failed miserably. (Sedna, a similarly colored and curly coated dog that stands nearly to her waist never leaves Carina's side, leading some to believe she may be some sort of assistance animal. That, or the girl's flair for the dramatic taken living, breathing, shedding form.)
Whether through luck or careful maintenance, her entire face seems to retain the air of a younger girl. It's aristocratic, with high cheekbones, a long straight nose, and full lips. Her deep hazel eyes are wide an childish under wickedly sharp dark brows-assets she loves to emphasize with dark make up. Even now, her every movement is graceful-sharply controlled, and never flamboyant- as if even now she were on a stage. As if, even now, she can't not be.
Unfortunately, even the best doctors can't fix everything; a long, thick scar the color of watered wine runs lengthwise down the front of her left knee, with smaller marks making constellations around it. Carina's feet are similarly marred with evidence of long healed broken bones, callused skin, and old wounds-badges of pride in her mind, and not blemishes to be repaired.
Personality:
Carina is, first and foremost, an artist; a professional, a perfectionist, and in control. Nothing less than the best is allowable, in her mind, and disappearing into her workroom for hours or even days at a time to wrestle with an idea is de rigueur. She forgets to eat and has been known to live off strong, milky coffee and paint fumes; seeing Carina at work is almost like seeing a different woman. On the street, she's flippant, airy, carefree and vain, a porcelain doll-perfect on the outside, but a bit hollow. In the studio, she's a force of nature, a whirlwind of sound and fury, and nothing that stands in her way survives to repeat the mistake.
Loosing her passion seems to have sapped Carina of some of her softness, making her a bit quicker to snap and bite, and slower to forgive. Her emotions are micro-bursts, unpredictable, violent, and short lived, but a grudge can last a lifetime and Carina is the poster child for passive aggressive revenge. Love, on the other hand, is something of a foreign concept; she's not even sure she can love. She's fond of her dog, and appreciates her parents, yes, but love? It's just another stumbling block on the way to the top.
She has no interest in family or children, no matter how much her mother might whine, and shudders at the idea of being pregnant. She won't risk her body, not for that, and if she wants to hear little feet, well, she can buy another dog. For all she cares, she can probably buy some district kid for the same price.
History:
The only daughter of Sabine and Marcus Salix, Carina lived the pampered life of a capitol darling, from schooling to sweets, fancy dresses, pets, nannies and tutors and everything in between. She rarely saw her father, who's government position kept him away from home most nights, but her mother was doting if a bit awkward with children. A comfortable childhood, all in all, though not particularly pleasant.
Not exactly a child prodigy, Carina started out more as a quaint curiosity-an adorably cheeky girl in a mess of frills. Mother thought it lovely, the sweet face and soft curls making her look more like something from a painting than a real child. Carina did well in school, because not doing so wasn't an option, Mama and Papa made that very clear-but her life and breath was art. Painting, singing, and most especially dance, there wasn't much she wasn't at least marginally proficient at, and she loved it all. Practice and time would have made her a credit to her tutors in almost any media she chose, and by ten she'd already picked the ballet. With age, Carina only grew in talent, becoming something of a rising star-the sort of girl who would really go places when she was older.
By her early teen years, Carina had caught the eyes of the media with her technical skill and fierce-some say over zealous-dedication to her craft. She was in pointe shoes far too early, doing multiple shows a night too often, and always demanding harder roles. It wasn't really a surprise when her knee went at just sixteen, it happens all the time, really. Besides, there's always another girl waiting in the wings. A pity she was so young, but the surgeons did an admirable job repairing the damage-she doesn't even limp, most days.
On the other hand, admirable is not perfect. Admirable does not get her back on the stage. Unable to remain prima ballerina, but unwilling to leave the theater, Carina decided being a second rate designer was better than being a first rate failure. These days she designs the costumes for the girls that take her place. No, of course she's not bitter. Why would she be bitter?
