Name: Shade.
Age: 19
Gender: Male.
District: 7
Appearance:
Brown hair, blue eyes, well built. Pale skin despite being out in the sun a great deal and muscular from working. Handsome, chiselled jaw, friendly smile or intimidating glare. Could lift at least one hundred pounds. Women are oddly attracted to him at times, though his good nature sometimes makes him feel confused about this.
Shade tends to wear darker clothing, mainly black. Its what sets him apart from many of the people within his district and attracts the attention of some. Shade is exceptionally strong, wielding an axe in combat, he has also practiced throwing the smaller hatchets at trees in secret. If the careers will be prepared, he must be as well. He is fairly strong and exceptionally fast, but his smaller size than some of the larger players may be a deciding factor against him in fist fighting.
Flaw: Shade has a deep scar at the back of his neck. Also, he has an intimidating nature to some not yet judged his friends, which can sometimes make people nervous and could scare them off.
Personality:
Shade is not a true loner, but like the trees, he does not need others to make himself stand. But he is protective of those who come under his protection and enter his circle of friends. Shade is more trusting of female companions than males...especially those males that throw their weight around to assess their dominance. Shade allows it in moderation, but he stands firm against those who use their strength to bully others into submission. Shade is more than willing to defend those who need to be defended.
Shades sometimes quiet nature in the district was thought at first to be a sign of simpleness. It was actually a way of escape into his own dreams and his own mind, away from the blows of his father, who had become an alcoholic upon the death of his mother. Once Shade grew up, he made sure that his sisters were never once struck or injured by their father, threatening horrible retribution, having long since learned how to use an axe. Shade is clever as well as fast and good with his axe.
Shade is exceptionally friendly and stands by his district, sometimes blindly. He sometimes would sit with people and allow them to unleash their problems on him, like a spring rain, complaining, lamenting and fearing. He accepted all their speeches with kindness and acceptance, allowing them to expound their hopes and dreams as well and giving them encouragement as well. Among them were his sisters, who he would never turn away, not even in the dead of night when he needed to rest to prepare for work the next day. Those that Shade loves are kept close to his heart. It's those who betray his trust that need to be afraid.
Flaw: Shade becomes too trusting around those judged trustworthy.
District Token: Sisters necklace(a circle of wood a bit bigger than a coin with an elm tree on one side and her nickname for him, Shade, on the other)
Among my family, I am the oldest. I have two sisters, Willow and Snap, age 10 and 12. Snap is a sweet little lady, always polite. Willow is a wild child, always running about whenever there isn't a school day and waiting for me after working harvesting lumber. I know its not our father she waits for. My father hasn't been the same since mother died. Really, its not a surprise he turned to drink. But it is a dissapointing turn of events.
My fathers drunkeness made him cold and violent. He would lash out at me since I would always stand firm as an oak between my sisters and him whenever he came back from drinking those foul white spirits. I didn't mind truly. If I took the hits, they never had to. I practiced a great deal as I worked, measuring my strikes with the heavy axe. Some thought it was me being mad. Truly, it was thoughts that came into my mind of what would come every year if my name or my sisters names were chosen. I knew I would stand in the way for them. Not my father though....One more strike aimed at my sisters and I'd turn the axe on him. Damn the detention centre...
I have no idea why the girls giggle and whisper when I walk by or why some find themselves drawn to me. My style of hunting only gets me so far, throwing knives and axes. What can they see in me that I can't? But they sit under me like children under an elm, talking to me and liking me. The larger boys try to bully them, be their usual cruel selves and I act as I should, protectively. I listen and protect them from the storm. My sister says I'm so tall that I can shade everything from harm. I hope when my name comes up, I can shade myself.
