A build up of snow, hanging from above my head. Perched on a stray branch, seamlessly overlooking the barren fields ahead of us. The fields are glazed with a frozen powder. I press my hand into the cold ground, pulling my fingertips together, and extending them out again. I raise my hand to my face, the melted crystals have stuck to my finger tips. I step my foot forward, urging my way further into the open fields, I have missed so much. I see an image of myself running through the freshly sprouted grass, the blazing sun burning my skin. The corners of my mouth raised on either end. What had happened to that girl? I know she will be back again next spring, but for now I must go on missing her.
A mound of snow had built itself up a few meters ahead of me. Well what else was I to do? It was just asking to be jumped on. I bolt to the mound, letting the flickers of fiery red burn from the back of my head. Who would of thought fire could burn in such a cold climate? My eyes grow in size as I near the mound. My nose reddening and becoming numb. I feel my cheeks burn, and my breath steam. My feet reach the edge of the mound, leaping from the earth surface like a spring. I lift both legs, tucking them to my chest. I feel the small of my back, crash into the fluff of snow. It stings at first, but I see the snowflakes shoot back into the sky, they had gotten to feel weightless yet again. Drifting ever so delicately back down, being pulled by a force called gravity. Why couldn't I float like that, twirling my body through the sky, like some sort of dance?
My voice shrills out, sending bolts of sound waves through the atmosphere. I imagine them rippling into the ears of my friends, or the friends that I lack of having. A lonely girl, in a lonely field. It was very pathetic, but it was something I have grown use to. I lay sprawled out in the mound of ice, and I smile. I smile bigger then I have in a long time. I began to push the snow away, forcing my arms up and down through the mound, doing the same with my legs. I had created an angel, it was brought down from above to accompany me in my day of freedom. Maybe it was his day off also? The winter sun speckles through the snow covered tree tops, barely shining its warmth on me. For a split second I feel the rays brush along my skin, and it feels nice. He remembers me, and he is welcoming me back.
"Hello sun, I have missed you" I say with a smile. I run my hands though my hair, the fire that cannot be put out by any amount of snow.
"There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far
Very far, over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he
And then one day, a magic day
He passed my way, and while we spoke
Of many things, fools and kings
This he said to me
The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return
The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"
My voice echoes through the trees around me, filling the snowy field with life, and love. It spends so much time alone, and I feel the same. So from each other we both can gain, a better understanding of each other, and with time will grow respect, respect and love for one another.
