Age: 18
Gender: Female
District/Area: 9
Appearance:
Persephone has always had a unique look to her. It's never been too unique as to isolate her, but unique enough to attract a few gazes whenever she enters the room. This is probably due to her bold looking face and sturdy build. Her jaw is clearly defined and her eyes have a the kind of look that suggest a fun side, but that you have to bring it out of her. She doesn't have the perfect, slim body that people are often judged by, but even though it's not really a big deal, she thinks it is. She doesn't like that she sticks out either, she's just starting to really deal with it and be okay. Her skin is pale. Pale enough to remind one of snow, but in a way that someone wouldn't quite be able to put their finger on it.
Persephone's hair is long and golden. It trails down a bit farther than her shoulders, then ends in delicate curls. Also, Persephone looks more mature for her age. She often is accidentally mistaken for someone in their very early twenties. This sometimes is why she is able to get out of trouble, because she can pull off the adult look. But the thing to look for most when you want to read Persephone's emotions is her mouth. Unlike most people, here eyes are not the window to her soul, it's her mouth. It's always been her mode for expression. She can smile wider than anyone in the district, but also give you the meanest grimace in the universe.
Personality:
Persephone has a personality that has many layers. On the surface she is Miss Ordinary. If it weren't for her looks, nobody would give her a second look. She's sweet, nice, and doesn't like to cause a fuss. Persephone acts like this around others because she thinks that different is bad. That's often the thought that comes into her head when she feels like expressing an opinion or wearing a bold outfit. Different is bad.
The second layer to that is that she will often take it too far and then, realizing what she has done, will immediately shell up. This could be for weeks on end or just a couple of hours. You can never tell what might set her off or why it even might. Sometimes she cries at the silliest things, but keeps a straight face in times where one should be crying. This is the part of her that she's most self conscious about because it's the piece that sets her apart from everyone else. And different is bad.
And the third layer is her impulsivity. She does what she feels. This is the inspiration for most of her art, which she loves. She could doodle, draw, paint, sculpt, sing, and play instruments all day and then realize it's time to go to bed. She just loves the expression in it. It's so freeing in a world where there is little freedom. It's her outlet in a world where there aren't many. She loves that she can be different, but she doesn't like to show it too often. Because she got it in her head that different is bad and now she doesn't like going against the flow. At least not while other people are watching.
History:
When Persephone was a little girl, she would wear clothes that looked like they came out of the Capitol. She would go to school with them on and have a good time, laughing with her friends and not realizing that she made the other girls jealous. Why did she have those clothes and not them? Why was she rich and not them. Soon enough, those kids that she called friends slowly turned on her. One after the other realizing they were jealous of her or not liking her over-the-top style. So one day, her friend told her, "You're weird." That was it. But after losing so many friends, being so emotional, that sent her rocketing over the edge. She immediately told her parents that she wanted new clothes, new friends, and a new life. So she got it.
She then went through her fat phase. Where she ate and ate and ate. Subconsciously she was trying to eat to fill the void, but she thought that theory was the dumbest thing in the universe. How could anyone eat to fill a void? She just ate because food was good and she was hungry. Virtually the same thing happened to her as when she wore the Capitol clothing. A kid told her she was fat and that sent her over the edge. She fasted and only ate healthy foods, and she tried to exercise, but she didn't like it very much. Now she's at her current stage: a perfect body, but not perfect enough for her. This is how she got it into her head that different is bad. Because she couldn't be different without being ridiculed.
Persephone's family is rich. The Jades are an old money family, going back to the first couple of Hunger Games when the economy in the districts were completely unstable and about as good as dirt. Her grandfather had been able to become the head of one of the grain processing teams. Her grandfather slowly worked his way up from there and soon was able to rake in enough money to call himself wealthy. When Persephone's dad finally took over his father's position, the family could call themselves rich. Persephone's father married Persephone's mother soon after he bought a large house close to the Victors' Village of District Nine. Persephone's mother is in fact a gold digger. She was seventeen when she became pregnant with Persephone, and Persephone's father was thirty. Persephone is also an only child. The fact that the Jades are rich is one that Persephone's parents love flaunting, but Persephone prefers to keep under wraps.
