Well, the water taught me one thing,
That it all fades blue to black.
It wasn't often that Aelinor got the chance to stay on the family's boat by herself, especially with the extra hours her father has been picking up recently. She stood on the deck, scanning the horizon as she took a break from cleaning. Even though she would never dream of taking it out on the water on her own, there was a certain peace in being on the water, even if it was just in the marina. Even better, since she was alone, she could pass the time by singing to herself. She didn't know that many songs, just bits and pieces of things she has picked up along the way. She had a habbit of repeating her favorites over and over and over again. They made her feel better- feel brighter. It was the little moments she could snatch for herself that really made the difference.
The sun beat contently on her shoulders, just enough to send warmth through her fleece. Her arms felt a little like jelly from a couple hours of scrubbing. Her pants were damp in the knees, her fingers tingling. Aelinor might as well clean the entire boat while she was here. Her father didn't need another thing to worry about, and if she got some bruised knuckles and sore arms out of doing the job, so be it. Go big, or go home, right?
It had been an unusual winter, with snow on the ground, but warm sunlight. The air was cold and salty, a refreshing crispness that cleared her head. Her breath fogged in font of her face, reminding Aelinor of the current temperature: cold. She didn't want to go back home, though. Her tea was still luke warm, and besides, the marina was definitely warmer than inland. The sea brought with it a slightly damp atmosphere that prevented snow build up, something Aelinor wished extended as far as the neighborhood where she lived. She could do without having to shovel snow ever again!
"I guess it's time to go," she sighed, dumping the bucket of soapy water over the side, and picking up a few things before locking up. Well, as much as a boat could lock. Stepping gracefully over the side, humming to herself, Aelinor walked down the dock. She glanced behind her, looking backat the Silverman livelyhood. It wasn't very special, was it... Trapped in her thoughts, she didn't realize she was walking toward another figure until she was nearly ontop of them. The air rushed out of her lungs in her shock, and it took a shuttering moment before it came back to her. "Oh my, I am so sorry. I didn't see you there!" Her cheeks flushed, and she knew she was bright red from embarrassment and the slight adrenaline of nearly tripping over another human being.
