Age: 34
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 9
Appearance:
L'Eau Vocatus is all about the looks. She's always been incredibly fussy about the way she dresses, the way she styles her hair, and the way her body looks. L'Eau can always be found in the fanciest clothes that District Nine can offer. Not only does it satisfy her wishes, but she gets to flaunt the fact that she's richer than everyone else in District Nine. Not to mention, probably more beautiful. At least for her thirties. She'll try desperately to cover up the wrinkles that are emerging, and with the amounts of makeup she puts on everyday, she often does end up covering her wrinkles. Unfortunately, for her, makeup isn't something very accessible in District Nine, so she sticks out very much in the sense that one can clearly tell she has it on.
For the most part, though, L'Eau has a very fair body all on her own. She is able to attain the desired figure, not because she eats well and exercises, but because she doesn't. She detests exercise with a passion and refuses to sweat or do anything that could possibly interfere with her complexion. Her skin is fair and white, but it is beginning to develop more and more wrinkles with her growing age. Luckily, she's young enough where they aren't too bad, so the wrinkles haven't caused her very much stress, yet. L'Eau's hair is delicate, long, and blonde. She prides herself in the volume and health of it. Her eyes can sometimes be seen as hazel, and other times as grey. She's not too tall, but she does stand about an inch over the average woman in the district, and she weighs more than the average person. But that is because she receives the proper nutrition to stay at that weight.
Personality:
L'Eau has never been someone that was easy to get along with. She's so caught up in herself that she only takes the time to look at another person if they've proven valuable to her. She uses snap judging and then from there decides whether or not the person is going to provide her with any gain, whatsoever. If they don't prove necessary to her climb up the social and economic ladders, she tosses them aside. She considers herself a woman of high class, and because she prides herself a great deal in this, she also feels that people of a lower class do not have the same rights as she does. Or even the time of day to be thought about. If they can't climb the ladder by their own strength, then that's their fault, and she doesn't need to help them. This somewhat extreme outlook on capitalistic society has made her somewhat of a controlling and manipulative person. She likes to rig things in her favor, and it's an added bonus if it blows up in the face of someone she doesn't like.
Although her view on the economy and society has made her a relatively unlikable person, if you're not on her good side, it has also made her a very strong woman. Although she may act like everything is given to her and she deserves that, she works for what she wants and she fully enjoys the fruits of her labors. Unfortunately, for her, her work-a-holic personality comes with a price. She's often very stressed or worrying about something. Her favorite thing to worry about is her daughter. She can't think about her enough. She is almost in constant thought about how she can shape her daughter's future into something great and wonderful. She truly wants to give her daughter a better life than she has, and she is also realistic enough to consider that a hard task.
L'Eau, under this incredibly thick shell of stress and manipulation, is a tender and loving woman. She hides this though, but not by force, by nature. She naturally suppresses her kindness, because another one of her famous sayings and philosophies is that, "Nice guys finish last." She's never really taken the time to analyze the saying, but she liked it. And due to her competitive nature, she wants nothing more than to finish first. She does show her caring side for the people who are the closest to her, though. Her husband sees it every once in a while, and her daughter sees it almost all the time, but her daughter mistakes it for obsessive parenting rather than caring and loving mothering.
History:
When L'Eau was growing up as a little girl in District Nine, she lived in poverty. Her parents rarely got along and could almost always be found fighting. So L'Eau spent most of her time in her room, playing alone, because she wasn't a very social person. L'Eau became very independent this way, and also very good at telling how people were feeling. She would often read her parents to see when she could ask them for something, so that they were more likely to say, "Yes." After a while of this, L'Eau started getting cocky, she began seeing if she could manipulate her parents to get what she wanted. She started out small, like one time when her dad had scolded her, she stole the bread from the kitchen and hid it. She knew how much her mother hated how her father would take the bread and leave it places after he'd eaten some. Her mother then started a fight with her father, where L'Eau proceeded to her room once more to ignore the screaming and yelling.
Eventually, this got out of hand. L'Eau had gotten so good at manipulating her parents, she drove them, slowly, but surely, deeper into poverty by demanding material goods. Not to mention the fact that she also drove her parents to a divorce. They had gotten sick of the fighting and when they split, that was the turning point for L'Eau. She was broken inside, but she couldn't show weakness, so she covered it up by lashing out and being even more mean than she'd ever been before. This turbulent childhood shaped her to who she is, though. And the example her parents set for her, caused her to be at a loss when it came to knowing the difference between true love and a one-night-stand. She pursued the man she lost her virginity to and they soon fell into the trance of love. Unfortunately, the spell didn't last long, and right as they were about to break up, L'Eau found out she was pregnant with her daughter, Shirley Temple. They stayed together for a few more years, but then her husband couldn't take it anymore.
After that, L'Eau was petrified. She was a single mother living with no money, because her husband had left her and taken all of it. He'd taken everything, but their baby. She couldn't let her daughter have a childhood worse than hers, so she scrambled to find any man that would marry her. She did. And then she did again. She went through a total of four husbands before she met her current husband, Beer. He's the owner of a large District Nine brewery, and this is the life that L'Eau has always wanted for her and her daughter, Shirley. Unfortunately for L'Eau, she didn't like Beer as much as he liked her. But L'Eau refuses to leave him for the security of her daughter and her development. Now that L'Eau has a rich husband, a child, and a nice, large place to stay, she's been able to find things to distract her from her monotonous and sad life. That's how she took her dive into being vain, she became obsessed with beauty. Especially after she turned thirty.
