Just Don't Die

As the day had dwindled on endlessly Kirito had done one hell of a job for making a fool of himself. Besides his vomit staining the tile floor just hours earlier he now found his eyes resting on a particularly interesting career. He knew who she was just as they all did. A johnwayne in the games was something that didn't go unnoticed. However her stardom wasn't what gripped Kirito's gaze but the single dark patch that hid her eye. Never once did she even hesitate to lift it, never once did she prove to even need it as she flawlessly vanquished target after target with incredible maneuvers. In fact Kirito actually thought she might be better than he brother Dan, but only time would tell him.

Or at least that was what Kirito thought at first, but with every passing minute he watched her he found himself growing more and more intrigued. How was she so talented with only one eye when he had both of his and still managed to suck horribly. Yes she was a well trained career, but perhaps there was some kind of trick she knew. Kirito had to know, he just had to, even if it meant another unwanted career encounter. Kirito couldn't help the shivers that shook his body at the thought of Circe's chilling hands wrapped firmly around his neck.

Shakily Kirito approached the career making sure that his heart didn't fly out of his chest before he even reached her. Now whether she ripped it out within the next few minutes, well he would see. "Um Elya, I was wonderin' how ya are so good with only one eye? I mean I am sure ya are use to it an all I am just really surprised is all." The moment Kirito's words slipped his lips he regretted it. The way his tone had come across it sounded as though he was insulting her. Hopefully she didn't notice?

	While Elya had allocated her mornings as intimidation time, she wasn't about to let her training fall to the wayside, not even for the week. Besides, the facilities in the Capitol were leagues more advanced than anything she'd seen back in District Two. Even the ones she was too poor to for paled in comparison. As it turned out, chucking spears and axes and knives at holographs was just as effective as her one-eyed stares of stony judgement: she could back up every boast and all her swagger with every resounding thud of the knife. She emptied a sleeve of beautifully-balanced daggers into the targets, then a third, then a fourth. She was a flurry of fingers and steel and hair, the targets a shower of shattered graphics. Less satisfying than the dull thump of blade entering flesh, but certainly not as messy. Wiping the sweat from her brow before it soaked into her eyepatch, she returned to the floor, eager to flex her swordsmanship now that she was warm. In admiration, she let her hand trail along each of the sword hilts as she paced the rack of the bladed weapons. When she came to one she liked the look of, she'd pick it up and take a few cuts with it before setting it back on the rack. Finally, she settled on a scimitar with a wicked curve. She sheathed it and wheeled around, only to literally bump into the young boy from the lowest district. Instinctually, her hand flew to the hilt of her blade, but she only drew two inches of the weapon before reason took over from adrenaline. Her surprise quickly fell into a hard glare as she forcefully slammed the weapon back into the scabbard she wore at her hip. His accent put him firmly in District 11, and Elya found herself struggling to keep up with his drawl. "How are ya so good with only one eye?" The same way you manage to be horrible with two, she thought, level of practice. "Some consider one eye to be an advantage for ranged weapons," she said, not-so-fondly she was almost barred from an archery competition for wearing her eyepatch — that is, until she tore the damn thing off and gave the crusty old referee an empty-socketed stare. She pulled her blade a few more inches from its scabbard. "I could give you one to match," she said, ice creeping into her voice, "so you can see for yourself."
