Abel MacLaren crossing your heart and hoping I don't remember the anthem a single bit, but that was fairly likely to be caused by being deafened by it last night. But by the lack of cannons yesterday, I guess that it wasn't very long at all. No one dying other than in the first couple of minutes in the arena, which is unusual. So unusual that the capitol would be calling for blood, wanting more death and excitement. I don't blame them. They just want to have something to watch, and this year's just a disappointment in terms of how it normally goes. And that means that day 2 will be complete chaos in their calls for what the capitol want. Even as another package of items from sponsorship comes, I'm already giving out the items that I don't need or can't fit inside my almost full backpack, cos nothing's been sent so far for them. They probably do need it more than I, to be truthful. And it makes me feel better to see the smile upon his face as the items pass from my hands to his, as well as Gabrielle and the boy from One. There's something about him that I'm not comfortable with, and it's something that I can't just put my finger on. Maybe because he's a career who knows umpteen ways to kill anyone without someone 10 feet away realising. And even while fear is something that I need to cherish, to understand, for it means that anyone won't expect the person from behind you from stabbing you. But trust is much, much stronger, and Geo and Gabrielle I trust. But vice versa, that I doubt. Not pure distrust, but probably just weariness, maybe due to the score in the training, or how I asked to work with them during the Games. I don't know really. But even as thoughts rattle inside my mind, I head off with them, the direction almost completely random. And as the massive tower shrinks and shrinks, a hole in the ground grows and grows. A door, to the underworld. And we enter, although my mind is shouting to avoid it, a niggle to avoid danger, I feel safer than on the ground, where other people could sneak up on us. Now, in the darkness, echos all around, no one can sneak up. And, from the tunnels within, I hear a snuffling, and screams and shouts from the people surrounding me. And one thing sticks in my mind from that. Rats. Rats. RATS. But not small like they are back home, these were larger than even the boy from One. Towering over me and Gabrielle. But even as they approach, I'm pulling out my lump of pipe, and the tar. And as they are almost within reach, the match is lit, and touching the tar. I swing. |
