Name:
Pike DeLarius
Age:
16
Gender:
Male
District/Area:
District Four
Appearance:
'Disinterested' and 'Unamused' are Pike's favorite expressions to wear, and he wears them quite often. He's got the perfect face and manner to pull them off, as well. Machiavellian is a good word to use to describe the lad, as his demeanor and appearance are both quite severe. A true heart-shaped face, his chin juts out a bit, as well as ending in a bit of a point, with high, wide-sitting cheekbones and a broad forehead. His nose is hooked at the end just slightly, and his over all profile is rather striking. Dirty blonde hair that he usually wears slicked or pulled back tops his head, and he always keeps his hair fairly short and his face clean-shaven. His eyes are bright blue, sitting low under heavy blonde brows.
He's not a giant, but at six foot flat, he's no short-stack either, and all six feet of his height is lanky arms and legs. Pike isn't broad in any sense of the word, but with large hands and feet and an over-all triangle shape to him, he is a natural born swimmer, as are most of the kids in District 4. And swim he does, often, though you probably wouldn't be able to tell, due to the apparent lack of any bulging muscles. Chalk it up to an incredibly efficient metabolism, I suppose.
Having been around fishing hooks and nets and water all his life, you would think a kid would grow up with tons of scars, but Pike doesn't have many to his name. He's had a crushed foot from having an anchor dropped on it before, and he was once "accidentally" hooked in the cheek with a fishing lure (which has resulted in a small scar about the size of a pinky fingernail in his right dimple) but other than that, he's clean. As with most District Four guys, he's fairly comfortable without a shirt on, and works like that often, but in his off hours and at school, he's much more comfortable in soft, earth-tone fabrics and long-sleeves. Due to his lack of body fat, Pike can get pretty cold, and is almost always seen wearing sweaters or hoodies of some sort. He's not a fan of shoes, though, and more often than not, you'll see him barefooted, with his pant legs rolled up, toes in the water.
Personality:
Pike simultaneously loves attention, and despises it. He's a very proud sort of boy, and when he does something he thinks is worth praise (which is most everything) he's come to expect it. But his temper and his fuse are very short, and once he feels he's had enough time in the limelight, he can become irritable and reclusive. He's very quick to anger, though his anger is more of a quiet simmer, rather than a loud explosion. But then again, he's quick to calm down, as well, and even with his temper, he's usually regarded as a pretty level headed individual, due to this quick 'on-off' switch he possesses.
But if there's one thing Pike loves, it's revenge, or rather, what he calls 'Justice'. He holds one hell of a grudge, and when he feels he's been wronged or robbed in any way, he'll let that anger and that indignation sit for a very long time. After all, revenge is a dish best served cold, right? He's an exceedingly clever boy, and the ways in which he enacts his revenge schemes could be described as both impressive and cruel. And due to his very naturally charismatic nature, his plots are usually social in nature. He's been the reason for many a social downfall of his classmates over the years.
Pike isn't shy with girls, nor skittish around boys, and yet, he's never dated. He's very charming when he wants to be, very coy and seemingly gentlemanly, but he's not exactly 'ready' to date, he feels. Pike is a sullen sort of boy at heart, and while he can usually win over a stranger in five minutes flat, he sometimes worries that his personality isn't genuine enough for a real relationship, or real friends. Sure, he has tons of people that would consider him a friend, but no one he himself considers a friend. At his very core, Pike is...well, rather lonely. He'd like to change that, but he doesn't really know how.
History:
The only son of Elaine and Gar DeLarius, Pike grew up rather spoiled. And that's exactly how he likes it; he wouldn't have gotten along well with siblings, whom he would have had to share his parent's attentions with. And being an only child, his family was very well-off, and he's not the type to be complacent with anything less than the best. He was the apple of his parent's eye, and quick as a whip at school, but among his peers and classmates, he found that it was much easier to remain aloof and turn his nose up than try to come by friendships the old fashioned way.
And his strategy seemed to have worked, for the most part. The more he remains uppity about his classmates, the more kids would attempt to impress him. He rose in rank quickly, and has enjoyed relative popularity his entire school career. He began working at fourteen at his father's canning company, first on the line, but soon moving out of the factory and out onto the docks, keeping the ledger and making sure each of his father's vessels brought in enough fish to remain profitable, and to make sure each vessel was accounted for. Pike has found that he very much enjoys being in charge of others this way, and doesn't intend to go back to manual labor.
Never having to have taken tesserae, Pike has never worried about competeing in the Hunger Games. Sure, Four is considered a 'career' district, but he has no interest in competing, and no worry that he'll ever be chosen. "Why compete for money and glory," he says, "when I can have both inheriting the family business one day?" A rather smart decision for a boy who is not very physically intimidating.
