Week One: Axe Throwing

AXE THROWING



Welcome to the axe throwing event! In front of you is a target. Each ring has a number written on it signaling a score for that ring. A bull's eye is worth 10 points; the further you are from the bull's eye the less points you get. The target is 21ft (6.1m) away from the throwing line. You cannot pass the throwing line, or you will be disqualified. You will get three throws. Your scores will be added up. Who ever has the score at the end of the competition will win. Remember to try hard for your district. Make them proud.

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character getting ready to throw the axes and then paste the code [*roll=1-10] without the asterisks three times into your post. You will roll a number 1-10 on each dice that represents the number of points you got from your axe throw/where your axe landed on the target.

At the end of your throws, each of the points will be added up. After you roll, feel free to edit your post with the character making the throws and reactions to it. Keep all of this in one post please.

The competitor with the highest score overall will win. After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your posts accordingly. I'll keep an updated lists with the times.

Light fluttered in upon the weak morning breeze as the ever similar scent of pine needles wafted into Monica's nose. A gentle morning bird's song was rudely interrupted by the sound of loud voices and deafening trumpets. People from all over Panem milled and rallied outside as the opening of the Highland Games was beginning. The Rustic Olympics the Capitol was starting to call these games but none of that really mattered to Monica. As her long red locks whipped like snakes down her shoulders when she stood. Bits of anger, as usual, boiled within Monica's gut as she put her pathetic uniform on and trudged out of the tent. Even though she lived in the district she was required to stay with the athletes which only made her more annoyed. If Monica really cared about this whole thing she would have been more determined to break a few legs on her way to the axe throwing.

Visions of burning and painful embers flashed through Monica's head as her teeth gritted. Today she was going to show all those who had wronged her that she wasn't just some petty little girl who could be burnt away. Fire still burned strongly in her heart and when the announcer called her name she stood with a glare on her face. The axes in her hands felt familiar as she had been dealing with them her entire life. All she had to do was throw them. So without allowing herself to over think Monica stood and then let her axes spring from her hand and towards their new home.

E S T H E R.

Today our district was riddled with all of these lower district scum. I was tired of having to share space with some of these pathetic district sevens, and now they bring in people of an even lower tolerance. I would not be made a fool of by some foreigners. I was going to prove that we were made from the greatest stuff on earth. Sure there were times when my brother was a pain in the ass, but competition was the one thing he knew he couldn't keep me from. I was here to make a name of myself, most of the people from my own district hadn't heard of me because of all my years spent hidden away. My brother hardly letting me experience the light of day. 

There were many faces around, many of which I had become very curious to understand. You would think with this many people around at least one of them had an interesting story to tell, I was going to find that person. I find myself drawn to a rather simple event, Axe Throwing. Axe throwing? that was a joke, we district sevens had more experience with lumber tools such as an axe that is was severely unfair. Whelp poor lowly district twelves will just have to bow their heads in shame for this event, cause I had this one in the bag. 

I stand in front of three axes. All of which had a brown leather hilt, and a hard metal core. I had noticed that they were of a much smaller size, of course to make it easier for throwing. In all honesty I was more use to throwing a regular sized axe, these little things weren't custom for cutting wood. I pick up one of the axes feeling the light weight between my fingers. I guess it was worth a try, though I would have to estimate the amount of force to use, and the amount of wind power it would take to make this thing go off course. 

I pull my arm back behind my right shoulder, gripping the axe between my thumb and forefinger. I inhale and watch the target closely. I had noticed the slight breeze, and the small but defined lines of my target. It was very precise, and a rather tough distance. I could make out the center easily enough, and that was all I had needed to see anyhow. I feel the blade rest against my right shoulder and then I quickly throw my force forward, hoping my arm follows with my gaze. This would mark the day I was going to prove him wrong, today I was free.

Wynn had been satisfied with the time he and Renly had ran, but he wasn't sure if it was the best. He had to focus on winning, this was one thing for sure. Wynn woke up and was nervous the most about that; what if he completely missed the target? What if he made a fool of himself? Though he should focus on the current.

He feels like butterflies are flying through his stomach, almost as if he was a butterfly nest. He would be scared to see if he failed. Though he is a failure, so what's the difference? Wynn would be shaking as the time would dwindle to the point it'd be his turn. Three throws. That's all he has to get a score. Can he do it? Most likely not.

He can still try, though.

"what do i have to prove?"

This'd been the first time in my lifetime the District has ever been kind enough to grace us with a form of entertainment in our dull, boring everyday lives. Much time has yet to pass since the conclusion of the Seventieth Games, and yet had much time passed since Stella was swept away from us, through force and involuntariness. However, it had crept into my mind as the time continued to run along, and the days and nights began to lapse into each other. It finally hit me that even though time would still go on and on and on, there is no amount of time that it would take to erase the pain.

"Stella would've loved this"

My lips curl up just a tad, my eyes not removing from their placing at the axes that hung so neatly in order. A sly remark wasn't on my agenda, nor was it necessary any longer. Had Stella still be here, perhaps she would join us some time, making the best of a troubled situation. A dead girl didn't deserve crude remarks thrown from a pit of frustration at a long lasted desperate attempt to be noticed, she deserved the betterment.

Words left un-exchanged only form holes in places they miss. Holes that I was only capable of dealing with, a lot more than how others would, only due to being left with ones that rotted to the core my whole life. A lot tougher mentally than how others would perceive, I grew up on a life of learning that self pity only gets you no where. And perhaps only feeling sorry for yourself could get you anywhere in life, its only direction is stuck in reverse.


Tightly gripped hands wrapped around three wooden handled axes, a peeling bandage that stuck to my palm. My eyes wander to those who've gone before me, as they walk away with heads held high and scores only higher. It didn't bother me, or intimidate me, for I never felt satisfaction in winning. I've never had to win anything in my life yet, so why would this make it any different?


Coming here with nothing to prove, nothing to show, nothing special. I raise my dominant arm, a cocking position, before a lunge and a followed soar of an axe. A repeated, systematic process three times over, and I walk away from the post, pleased or unpleased. I never came here to win. I've never had to win at anything.

Andrei Ehrenström Ensam är stark Andrei would really rather have watched from the sidelines, but he couldn’t very well not turn up after the twins and Leif had submitted their oldest brother’s name behind his back; it was a little harmless fun, he supposed, and if it amused his siblings to watch him compete, it was no skin off his back. It wasn’t as if he would be at work otherwise. The target was a good 20 feet away, give or take; Andrei ruefully thought that for all his dexterity with an axe when it was in his hand, throwing them had never really been his forte. Size and strength didn’t necessarily equate to aim, but either his siblings didn’t know that, or they’d decided they didn’t care. It didn’t matter. He could hear them hollering obnoxious encouragement (and some rude words) on the sidelines; if it made them happy, Andrei would play the game. 4gqO0RIE1-10 1-10 1-10 = 21/30

After a decent performance at the Obstacle Course for this first week, he moved to the ax throwing, which should be something he is good at considering that he's from Seven. He admits that he could have done better, he touched some of the ten logs that were hanging, but he zipped up the ladder in a little over a minute, which was great time! He stands in line still a little bit heated from the Obstacle Course and watches as the other competitors take their swings. He gets closer and closer, wishing that he could have his own ax in hand. They prohibited the use of personal axes to avoid tampering such as adding weight. Pike isn't sure how that would have helped anyways but he just had to let it go. He went up to the line, seeing the target standing three yards out, they put a fresh target up for him, with various circles surrounding each other. This must be what an actual target is, and not just a tree. He thought to himself as he examined the grip of the first ax in his hand. He held it firm, turned, and swung.

The first ax made a great shot, landing just a few paces to the left. He focused his energy again, not wanting to have another mediocre performance like he did in the first part of the obstacle course. He grabbed another smooth hilt of the provided axes, and aimed. Standing with his left shoulder to the target he twists, using his core to create momentum through to his arms, he lefts his wrist lean towards the right to get closer to the bulls-eye, he reached a little too far right though. It landed in the 9 section.

It's strange, standing here in front of all these people as the gawk at me like I'm some sort of star, and it's wrong of me to think that because I'm far from a star. All I want is to help people. To give those who don't have enough a better life. Maybe that's what I can do if I manage to win something. I can return the prize to someone who's in more need of it than I am. I've been hungry. I've starved myself, and now I want to give back. I sigh softly as I grip the first of three throwing axes. I remember seeing these in Wyatt's game. I miss that guy, but he would want me to do something for myself. He would want me to do something that I've never done before, and this is only the beginning.
