Week Three: Egg Relay

EGG RELAY



Welcome teams! This event is quite simple. You place an egg on a spoon and walk/run 50m towards the other side where one of your teammates is standing. When you reach them, you transfer the egg to their spoon. You will do this four times. Seems simple, right? Well, there's a catch. You will hold the spoon in your mouth. When transferring the egg to another spoon, you aren't allowed to use your hands. Oh, you can't use your hands at all. If you drop the egg at any point, you have to start over from the beginning. If you make a successful trade off, and that person drops the egg, they have to start over not everyone. People are watching. Will you make them proud?

The execution of this event is simple. You may roleplay your characters placing the egg on the spoon, and putting the spoon in their mouth and standing in front of the start line. You will then roll [*roll=1000+1000] without the asterisks to see how long it takes you to reach the other end. This will give you a 4 digit number. (example 1133, a decimal point will be added making it 11.33 so 11.33 seconds) You will also need to roll [*roll=1-2] without the asterisks with 1 being dropped and 2 being not dropped to determine if you dropped the egg or not. If you drop the egg, you will reroll [*roll=1000+1000]. If you don't drop the egg, you will roll a [*roll=1-3] where 1 and 3 means successful transfer, and 2 means unsuccessful. If it's unsuccessful, you need to reroll the [*roll=1000+1000] and [*roll=1-2]. If it's successful, you have finished rolling.

If you are the 2nd person from your team posting, you will not have to roll to see if you transfer the egg successfully.

The times will be added up at the end of the event after both members of the team has posted. Whichever team has the quickest overall time, will win.

An event I might be good at. Finally. After the catastrophe that was the log through, it will be nice to run free, even if it was for a couple of seconds, and with an egg near my mouth. When I signed up for this I thought it would be on a spoon held by my hand, not my mouth. No matter, this will make it even easier. I get ready to start and I look at my partner a long ways down. I can reach there quickly and easily.

Just like my sister, I am fast and nimble and ready to hold a spoon in my mouth for a short period of time. I place the egg on the spoon, careful to mot drop it, and then I put the spoon tip in my mouth, balancing the egg precariously, and I am ready. Then I go.

A small, shy smile curls up the side of my face, darkened by the shadows of nervousness. I say to my partner, a boy I barely know, "Let's do this, 'Team Double JJ.'" A half-hearted laugh and a slight shake of my head follows my comment. It was meant to be encouraging, but to me, it sounds more like a death sentence. With caution in my hands, I place spoon, holding an egg at its end, in my mouth.

My stomach drops, marking that it's time to begin

to embarrass myself until I'm flaming and red.

One of his opponents during his other events, Jezebel Zodiia, was on his team now. They had to work together and honestly, Joey was just glad that he didn't have to rely on himself to do this competition on his own. Joey smiled as Jezebel as she had arrived at the place. Both of them were prepared by the time the competition was going to begin. Joey was ready for the competition. Jezebel spoke before they got into position. "Let's do this, 'Team Double JJ.'" Joey smiled at her and nodded to let her know he was ready, she was pretty good at the egg relay, the transfer was a bit awkward for Joey, but it was successful, Joey now had to make it back with the egg on the spoon in his mouth without dropping it and make it to the finish line. And Joey was off to make it to the end.

Why was it that every single thing I was competing in involved eggs? Perhaps it's easier this way, with only one hand, yet it brings great joy to me knowing that because of all of this, I am capable of doing something. I can compete with the others, yet none of these events are physically challenging. More mentally. Yet holding an egg on a spoon in my mouth was simple and less messy whereas the egg roulette event was disgusting. It took me ages to clean all the raw egg out of my hair, but for once it seems worth it.

Listening to the instructions, I try to make eye contact with everyone praying with all I have inside of me that nobody would notice my missing hand. I hate when people point it out because it's almost pointless, yet it won't hold me down. I let that hand steal my life away, and it's time I get it back. It's time that I finally let go of the past and start running towards the future.

Placing the spoon in my mouth, I carefully bite down on it before placing the egg on the spoon. Oh god. I'm going to fail. I'm going to fail. Please don't let me fail. Once the sound is given, I move to the best of my ability hoping and praying that I won't let my partner down.

It's been nice doing something fun. Something that I can potentially use to help other's out, but most importantly, I've enjoyed living my life the way Wyatt would want me to. He may be gone, but his spirit lives on inside of me. It keeps me going when I feel like nothing else will. Even suggesting to steal pies with Micah. It was something I would never do, but all of those left over pies could be used to feed the hungry. Perhaps I could do the same with the eggs. But for now I have to focus. Holding the spoon in my mouth, I watch as a guy comes towards me. My mind focuses on the race ahead. I've watched other's fail. I've watched them drop the egg, but my partner managed to keep it safe. Taking a deep breath, I relax when the egg is on my spoon, and in that moment I take off. My mind remains blank, and my face remains clear of all emotions.

You still shake your head with disbelief. Unknown reasons why you're in this event, a spoon shoved inside your mouth. Holding an egg of all things. Well, you're not that shocked, for this is the egg relay, not the pine cone relay. But why the mouth?

You look at the other person, and you hope that their jaw is as steady as yours as you set off, trying desperately not to laugh. Because laughing, well, that could cost you and your partner everything. But your mind shouts, GO FAST, DON'T DROP. You try and do just that..

"Why are you doing this?" Rion says, arms folded on the railing where Nick sits. He blinks blearily up at her, opting not to respond. "You're making a fool of yourself."

"I gotta," Nick says, and promptly shuts up because speaking hurts more than taking the breaths that were already a struggle.

"You gotta what? Trip and fall and choke on your own puke?"

Nick groans quietly, pathetically covering his ears.

"Not gonna be hard to do, the way you're going."

"Hurts," he says, and he's not sure if he's talking about her grating voice or the pounding in his head or the way his heart feels like it's barely holding itself whole. "It hurts."

"I'm not fucking surprised," Rion says, her straight white teeth bared in an annoyed smile.
