[Delivery] Word - (Throughout) The docile and loyal Delivery Words (commonly called 'Words') are extremely adaptable and capable of crossing lands and bodies of water to deliver mail for the cost of a couple sunflower seeds. Delivery Words usually prefer to fly away from combat. Their meat is highly delicious and packed with essential vitamins. It is not hard to spot a Delivery Word, with their black feathers, gray-specked eyes, and tendency to honk loudly; however, Words can be hard to capture with its ability to withstand high acidity.
10 HP. Classified as Small Game. Not poisonous. (70th)
Vraven (Throughout) - Originally bred to clear battlefields of the fallen, Vraven’s are a chilling mix of vulture and crow that have an appetite for rotting flesh. Capable of silently swooping down despite their impressive seven foot wingspan, Vraven's are dangerous mutts, who circle relentlessly while waiting for the right moment to strike. hough they haven’t been used since the dark days to dispose of corpses that the Capitol did not want to spend the resources to identify and bury, the gamemakers have decided that such a mutt perfectly fit the tone of the sixty-seventh arena. However, unlike their predecessors, these Vraven have been bred not just to go after dead flesh, but living flesh as well.
25 hp. Not Edible. Not Poisonous. (67th)
Clingray - (Cold Sea, Sea Cliffs, Black Rock Beach, Islet Cottage) Created to be exotic pets for Capitol residents, the Clingray is basically a miniature stingray, with a multitude of bright and exotic colors thrown in when it was made by the Capitol. However, almost immediately problems were found when the miniature creatures proved to breed a lot faster than expected. Initially ignoring the issue, the Capitol was forced to recall the creatures when reports of the mini stingrays attaching themselves to their owners and repeatedly stinging them came in in high numbers. With nothing to do with the animals, Capitol scientists instead chose to release them into the Arenas along with the tributes. Clingrays do not stay in packs or nests, but they do stay near the shore of the beach.
12 hp. Poisonous but will not cause death, but will only debilitate the tribute, making them unable to flee for the day. Edible, but first must be cooked. (credit to Pogue)
Sheepish – (Rolling Hills, Wooded Glen, Sea Cliffs) A dastardly blend of fox and sheep DNA, the Sheepish are as sly, quiet, and elusive as a fox. They have a very thick, fluffy orange coat, with the tail, snout and ears of a fox protruding from the woolly mass. Their teeth are incredibly sharp, although the cunning animals conceal them quite well, looking innocent and cuddly. The Sheepish were attempted to be bred as a food source; however the far too little meat that they produced was far too gamey for the Capitol people. The Sheepish continued to be bred for their bright orange wool, which is prized by Capitol fashion designers.
20 hp. Not poisonous. Classified as Small Game.
Deadly Stallions - (Rolling Hills, Peat Bog, Wooden Glen) Larger than your average horse, these mutts can travel at an extremely fast pace. Deadly Stallions were originally created by the Capitol as a mean of quieter transportation during the war. Their hooves are far stronger than that of a regular old steed, created by the Capitol so they could gallop over nearly any terrain. When rebels had began sneaking into Capitol areas and killing the mutts mercilessly, the Deadly Stallions' minds were configured to attack anyone who didn't fight for the Capitol on sight, posing as a potential threat to tributes. They are most likely found in shaded areas or near drinking water, ready to attack anyone who comes near.
35 hp. Classified as large game. Not poisonous. (67th)
Ghull – (Black Rock Beach, Basalt Columns, Sea Cliffs, Islet Cottage, Cold Sea) While it does not closely resemble the “ghoul” it was modeled after, the Ghull has a taste for rotting flesh that rivals its folklore counterpart. This giant strain of seagull was bred over many years by not the Capitol, but actually by the scientists of District 6, who needed a safe and efficient disposal system for the numerous dead lab animals that their projects consume. The seagulls were already ferocious scavengers before vulture DNA was spliced in, creating the Ghull with an overwhelming urge for flesh — and not always that of necrotic carrion. Ghulls are especially drawn to blood of all kinds, regardless of whether it’s fresh or congealed or surrounding decaying flesh — their poisonous saliva encourages rapid necrosis so the birds can break down the food more easily. The good news is, like the seagull, while Ghull summon their fellows to join in the hunt if they spot a meal, they quickly turn on each other, fighting over the scraps. That doesn’t mean they aren’t a vicious foe, however; if one of these starts attacking you, remember to give the District 6 tributes an extra gash in thanks for being the source of these fiends.
15hp. Poisonous. No food classification. (70th)
Silver Sirens — (Black Rock Beach, Basalt Columns, Sea Cliffs, Islet Cottage, Cold Sea) These seafaring demons were originally engineered to lure out any refugees that may be attempting an escape by sea. At the time people were being boated halfway to an offset island at night, and they would swim the rest of the way, guided to the island by the songs of whales that would pass through the waters. The Capitol caught wind of this little operation however, and in an act of cruelty, before bombing the island and it’s inhabitants, they created what would become commonly known as Silver Sirens. By integrating DNA of a beluga whale into a manta ray, they were able to give a species of ray the ability to create the same alluring songs. However, neither species was vicious enough to pose a threat to the swimming rebels, so further altercations needed to be made. By adding the venomous two-stinger tail of the whip-tailed stingray, the muttation was given a deadly weapon to wield. Additionally the creature was designed to exude more predatorial instincts to that it’s cousin, the shark. Given the already highly intellectual abilities of the manta ray, the engineered version of this creature made for a deadly encounter as it will purposefully use it’s soothing melodies to lure in it’s victims.
Poisonous. 25 hp. No food classification. (credit to pthalorarity)
Harpies – (Throughout, except Islet Cottage) The Capitol really outdid itself with this muttation. With the naked upper torso of a gorilla affixed to the legs and wings of a bird, this beast can be quite elegant. The Harpies were originally developed to be companions for older Capitol men. It took a few deaths before the muttation engineers realized that the Harpies were better off contained to an arena. There is a certain femininity to a Harpy’s movements, a sly batting of her eyelashes just before she attacks, a proud fluttering of her wings before she swoops in on her prey. But don't be fooled; this is one twitchy, screechy critter who loves to use her knife-like talons to scratch up her prey before she eats his innards.
15 hp. +5 HP against male tributes. Not edible. Not poisonous. (62nd)
Demo Deer — (Rolling Hills, Wooden Glen, Black Rock Beach) The term "Demo Deer" — short for Demolition Deer — is actually a misnomer in the fact that these 'Deer' are not actually deer at all. Instead, this large species is actually a blend of moose and rhino DNA. These were developed to clear forests, fences, buildings, and the etcetera. They have giant antlers by their ears, as well as a large pointed horn in the center of their face. These 'Deer' have leathery gray skin, though have slender legs and a thin face.
Not poisonous. 35 hp. Classified as Large Game. (60th)
Aibell - (Throughtout) Details TBA.
10 hp. Protective Mutt. Not Poisonous. Not Edible. The exact mechanic for summoning her will be revealed once the Games have commenced.
Banshee - (Throughout) You’ll know the Banshee approaches long before you see her grisly wings, and you will know her by her wailing song. This grey predator bird keens for the dead, to mourn their lives and celebrate their transition. She has a long silver beak and matching talons. She will not hesitate to attack those who remain too close to the dead.
15 hp. Poisonous. Not edible. Appears after a tribute has died.
Werewolf - (Throughout) ARROOOOOOOOOO! When the moon is at its brightest, Luna’s call twists the bones of ordinary men, turning them into werewolves. These beasts are able to walk on the massive hind legs, clawing at the earth with their sharpened talons. Just like the beasts of old, these muttations are indiscriminately bloodthirsty. They will tear all who cross their path asunder with their yellowed teeth and snapping jaws.
30 hp. Classified as Large Game. Only appears under a Full Moon.
Donn Cuailgne - (Rolling Hills, Wooden Glen, Peat Bog, Basalt Columns, Black Rock Beach, Sea Cliffs) This is one pissed off muttation. Held in pens so small, it could not turn around, the Donn is filled with rage. He appears as a massive red bull, with twisted white horns that extend several feet from his head, and breath so hot that it pours out of his nostrils as smoke. When the Donn attacks, he does so with horns, stamping hooves and the fire that burns in his belly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donn_Cuailnge
45 HP. Not Poisonous. Fire Damage. Classified as Large Game.
Dullahan - (Throughout) The stuff of nightmares, the Dullahan appears as a headless rider atop a jet black horse, carrying his own head beneath his arm. He is cloaked in the shadows and mist of the arena, silent and deadly. He never speaks, merely observes. Only the bravest dare to face him, and too late they discover that though he may passively accept attack after attack, when the Dullahan has decided to claim you, nothing can save you from the noxious gas of his lethal robes. When the Reaper has declared it is time, the Dullahan sweeps, dragging the tribute from the safety of the earth into his embrace. Together, they ride into darkness.
40 HP. Special Mechanic: rolls [*roll range=1-5] with 1 = 40 damage, and 2-5 = 0 damage. We will not mandate anyone against this mutt, but if you wish to face it (and especially if you are a victor tribute), please PM the Gamemakers.
Balor - (Throughout) At twelve feet tall, with leathery wings and coarse dark fur, the Balor is a fearsome creature stepped straight out of legend. Her arms and legs are vaguely human in form - but with rippling muscles and meter-long claws, topped with horns . More fearsome than her claws is her smile: dagger sharp and serrated, each bite of her fangs takes with it chunks of flesh. Her single eye, the size of a dinner plate, is more fearsome still: when its heavy lid opens, she is capable of raising an inferno where she stares, turning the landscape which surrounds her back into the hellscape more appropriate for a demon of her ilk.
80 HP. 2 attacks per turn. Can make a fire attack (separate from weapon attacks.)Muttation Contest Winners
Will-o-Wasp (Sea Cliffs, Basalt Columns, Black Rock Beach, Cold Sea, Sea Cottage)
credit to Death
Bad ideas come in threes. First, was thinking that adding fireflies to a Tern for luminescence would have no affect on the mind of the creature. Second, was thinking that the resulting creature could be trained to lead the way back to camps instead of just flying straight off. Third, that adding the Giant Asian Hornet's stinging abilities to this creature would not add any aggression at all. Mix these together and you end up with a highly aggressive, needle-nosed bird that glows in the dark and doesn't think before it stings by plunging its beak into its "attackers." The birds are most often found nesting in colonies under bushes by the beach or in the crevices created by rocks and cliffs and are quite beautiful when observed from afar.
15 HP. Poisonous.
Oculin (Sea Cliffs, Basalt Columns, Black Rock Beach, Cold Sea, Sea Cottage)
credit to Arrows
The Oculin were the creation of Capitol Scientists seeking to destroy any access to the waterways and the seas during the dark days. This terrifying mutt took months to perfect but when the genetics of the jelly fish, starfish, squid, and shocking bits of plant fused together the results were highly effective. The Oculin are approximately the size of the human head and they are nearly impossible to see since due to their jellyfish genes they are practically translucent. Located on this round sphere body are two eyes as well as twenty long thread like tentacles. These tentacles swiftly navigate dark waters. What makes Oculins special is they latch with star fish like suction to beaches and rock formations near the water. From there they send these twenty translucent tentacles sprawling across the ground around them. When their trapped tentacles are stepped upon, they attack with their two spiked tentacles while the others ensnare their prey.
18 HP. Edible. Classified as Small Game.
Nesses (Wooded Glen, Peat Bog, Sea Cottage, Cold Sea, Black Rock Beach)
credit to Muffinface
Small creatures, roughly two-three feet tall when full grown with a long neck, pointed muzzle, and four versatile flippers. Their skin resembles that of a dolphin, and can vary from grey to blue to green in color. They live only near water, and resemble very closely tales of the beast of Loch Ness. Very peaceful creatures, they often flock together in pods similar to orcas, and emerge at twilight and dusk to feed on eggs turtles lay in the sandy beaches. Clumsy and awkward on land, they can survive for hours at a time out of the water, similar to a dolphin or a beached whale.
Originally, they were developed to add interest to massive fish tanks in the capitol, but they proved to be too large and far too difficult to maintain, as the creatures could eat twice their body weight and produce just as much waste.
12 HP. Edible. Classified as Small Game.
