KATELYN PERSIMMON
Katelyn knew she was probably supposed to find Kirito soon but after grabbing a quick bite to eat, she had been drawn to a screen on style street that was showing a replay of the feast. She could recall the feast in her own games perfectly, watching Mason, Alexis, and Wyatt die. Hearing Pixie's cannon fire a few minutes after Chaske had climbed the pillar. She already knew that her tributes had both made it out of their respective fights, but she lingered in case the replay gave way to a current fight; and because she was starting to think that she was being followed. If the former didn't happen and the latter was true, then she'd have to hurry up and find her fellow mentor. For the moment however, she turned her attention to what the two men on screen were saying...
"I do so love having dessert after a feast, don’t you Claudius?" Caesar paused for a moment and grinned as the audience laughed. “So much to discuss,” he tittered as he ate a spoonful of a frozen treat. “A games first; a gamemaker being sacked and replaced after the games got underway. Can you say…SCAN-DAAA–LAAAAS?!” he cried, raising his voice with each syllable. "I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say Mr.Kincade’s flair for the dramatic will be missed. But my, if Ms.King isn’t doing a fabulous job with Ms. Copperview. But on to the games! There’s something that was rather delicious today for all of us viewing at home.” He said as he continued scooping up something creamy and crimson.
"I’m talking about a dish best served cold folks, and I don’t mean this delectable Stella Summit Strawberry Sherbet, oh no!” he wailed as he flung the frozen dessert off camera with wide eyes. He leaned in closer to the camera and winked conspiratorially, waggling his eyebrows. “I’m talking about revenge.” A couple people in the crowd whooped at that and he launched into his next rant. “For those of you who missed it…oh who am I kidding, you’d have be as blind as Arbor Halt was when he won to have missed today’s feast, I’m only recapping this because it’s the hottest thing to happen since the doppelgangers in the quell last year and we all want to hear more, don’t we?” Caesar cupped a hand to his ear and turned to the crowd. “Don’t we?” he repeated louder. The audience roared their approval. “That’s what I thought! So, here! We! Go!”
The video behind him started showing scenes from the western feast, focusing in on the boy from ten. “Our more attentive viewers may recall that one of Roderick’s allies killed Odile from three and that Roderick himself killed Leo from the same district, both of whom were allied with Jeq from six, whose right arm was also taken by Rowdy Roderick Benstaloe! Later, she would ally with Saxton Hale; I’m sure we all thought those two hanging out was heart-warming. But lo and behold Roderick and Daria found them again. That’s where it gets interesting folks!" A replay of Roderick landing the killing blow on Saxton’s battered body was shown in slow motion. Claudius cut in next. “Now, judging by what they’d already done previously, I personally had thought Saxton was on the road to repeating Trix Valfierno’s success and that Roderick might very well be as dangerous as Mace Emberstatt had been in his games, but what happened next well…” he shrugged as Caesar took over.
“Jequirity’s blade sang like a violin’s bow is what happened, Claudius, and she took his limb for hers and his life for her allies. What a turn of events! Revenge at its finest! And consider that district ten’s tributes were both eliminated by the tributes from six? I think I felt something, right…here.” He said as he pointed to his chest. “Or maybe it was here?” he pointed at another spot. “I tell you, I’m not sure whether I was supposed to cheer or cry when that fight was over, and that was only one of the two feasts!”
Claudius nodded. “That’s correct. The feast in the east was just as thrilling. Cody started the killing when he dropped Taurus Hawk, thus single-handedly eliminating district nine from the competition as he had killed Heather O'leary previously." A chart showing Taurus’s stats ballooned up in size. “In case the folks at home were unaware, you should know that Taurus was a relation of the Jay family, who have lost several family members to the games. They just can’t seem to catch a break." Caesar sat forward in his seat at that. “Well neither can the Bowers-fox clan Claudius; Because Neptune eliminated Cody right after believe it or not.”
He turned to the audience with his hands clasped in front of him on his desk and a serious look on his face. “We know that in the flurry of attacks from several tributes on one it is sometimes hard to tell who killed who, but with our cameras state of the art motion capture algorithm engines, every attack, hell, every noteworthy action any tribute makes can be carefully logged, time-stamped and replayed for your viewing pleasure. Thank ripred for that am I right?”
He waited for the audience to quiet down before continuing. "Still. Five tributes gone today, a total of eleven so far, and we miss them all don’t we?” Claudius nodded sagely. “We love them all, but we all know that only one can be crowned a victor at the end of this, and with only thirteen tributes remaining, you might want to start getting your victor bets in at the nearest betting hall. My advice? Looking at the kill spread, I’m beginning to think that a career will win solely because the lower districts are doing all the work for them!” He threw his head back laughing, and even Claudius afforded his companion a chuckle, as did the audience. “I mean, just look at the feast in the east. Cody killed Taurus, only to fall to Neptune, who was in turn killed by Dustyn. That’s a conga line of revenge slayings if there ever was one, but young mr. chase only accounted for one of them.”
He put his serious face on again and exchanged a knowing look with the camera. “Now if I was a betting man; and I am, I’d say to keep an eye on Dustyn Chase. As the only career to make a kill in the past five days, his odds are climbing the charts, and it puts the experts estimation of him just an inch above the other five careers. Now, that could change, but the other careers had better hurry up before there’s no one left to eliminate but each other! Unless…” he added in a hushed tone. “The careers are already eyeing each other as their first victims. Who knows?”
“Stay classy Panem," He said in his normal voice. "we’ll have a huge discussion about Beretta's magnificently macabre outfit, as well as more statistics, replays and interviews than you can shake a severed arm at after the commercial break!”
Katelyn moved away from the screen in disgust as the commercial started talking about a line of sherbets whose flavors were all named after tributes, including the flavor Flickerman had been eating. It reminded her of that horrid little store she had come across before, what was it called? Tributes and tokens? That sounded right. She glanced behind herself as she started walking, and her shadow started walking again too. He was tall, wearing plain tan clothes, but the way he carried himself reminded her of a peacekeeper, as did the stony look on his face. If he saw her looking at him, he didn't react. Katelyn grumbled to herself and kept walking. She had noticed something odd about the replays.
Now, granted, Flickerman didn't go through every tribute every time he had a segment, so it wasn't out of the ordinary that he hadn't mentioned either of her tributes at all. But the footage of the fights had all used camera angles where Annora and Harbinger were barely visible or not at all, focusing almost exclusively on the careers and the girl from six. That bothered her almost as much as the man she was sure was following her. Well. He hadn't approached her yet, so maybe he was just keeping an eye on her? Spying? She needed to find Kirito, and then she'd confront this mystery man. If need be, she'd kick his ass too.
"Test my will, test my heart
Let me tell you how the odds gonna stack up
Y'all go hard, I go smart
How's that working out for y'all in the back, huh?"
